The damage difference between the stronghold keg and the Athena keg is blast radius. The Athena keg will kill the entire crew on a galleon but the stronghold keg will not carry its kill damage as far.
I got it a few years ago, the big shark had its own music, the music he plays in its respective section of the video. A grand version of Summon the Megaladon. I found it around N21. Though be warned I posted it in the official discord and told by pirates that it’s fake and just “propaganda by rare” lol. Happy hunting mates
11:52 "Don't overextend yourself trying to catch this particular Meg." This is terrible advice. Everybody knows that the true way to get the Shrouded Ghost to spawn is to embark on a clearly doomed voyage that will deplete your fortune, drive you insane, and eventually kill you. You literally just have to lose your mind (and a leg) and go completely wacko with your lust for revenge. IT WORKED FOR AHAB, IT CAN WORK FOR ME
"embark on a clearly doomed voyage that will deplete your fortune, drive you insane, and eventually kill you" Wait... Was the shrouded ghost just Moby-Dick all this time?
It's not a myth, it's a reality: Telling your friend to log in to play to get a quick achievement, a 20 minute adventure. From the moment those words were mentioned you have just condemned that expedition to the most cursed and chaotic of your entire life. On that journey alone you will manage to find a valuable treasure that you will want to sell only to be followed by constant megalodors, pirate ships, the event of the fleet of leaving by surprise in the place you were sailing, a obligatory visit of the kraken and of course the sweatiest of the streamers connecting on your server to record troll videos for his youtube channel.
One time I logged in to customize my reaper ship' trinkets and then log. Buy then I saw a level five reaper pulling up to reapers hideout, and I wasn't far away at plunder. So I threw up my reaper flag and sailed over, hoping to have a quick round of PVP and fully expecting my solo brig to sink with zero loot. The level 5 reapers decided to run. So I chased them to the edge of the map. We ended up in an alliance stacking FOTD. "It's just 20 minutes bro."
The Shrouded Ghost, in terms of myth and player stories, feels very much like one of those actual tall tales: a yarn that sailors young and old would enjoy spinning during the historical Age of Exploration. The thing about the Shrouded Ghost is that, in actuality, she ain't no tall tale. You can fight her. Most pirates don't get to see her with their own eyes, even after thousands of hours of playtime. But, you can fight her. Damn, that's awesome!
My ships whole backstory is about the shroud. My Papa and i sailed on a ship called the bear and the bird, named after me and my Papa respectively. One day i was sleeping below deck and i hear Papa scream so i ran upstairs only to see my father disappearing into the maw of a pure white shadow. I swear, it was a spectre the size of me whole ship.. with glowing red eyes. I fell hit my head and woke up on lonely isle with no ship, no Papa, no leg, no GROG and a headache that could kill a kraken.. and i never saw me papa ever again. I swear to glitterbeard i will get revenge on this "ghost" even if it kills me😆
Myth: if you just sail away from the spire before taking out the mermaid statues during the final Pirates Life Tall Tale you’ll have a permanent Jack Sparrow on your cannons who has perfect aim
I've never heard of that "reaper charge" thing but now I want it in the game, that's such a cool idea to fend people off and increase its value. Also, FINALLY someone else confirms that the Athena keg is identical to the Stronghold one, SO MANY people think the Athena one is better. They are literally re-skins, they even have the same sell value! The only difference is the faction they go to.
We told a new crew that they need to play call of the meg for half hour straight while burning shark meat on the fryer to call in a meg. The bastards did it, a meg spawned and they said "we will definitely do this every time" and i just.. i couldnt believe it 😂
A common one is that you have to sell all the crates full, but the fireworks crate and bait crate sell for the same amount EMPTY! So you can keep the loot if your into fishing and fireworks.
Same. I'll repair it either at the shipwright, or before a session-even if it only has one hole. It's nice starting out pristine, and the cost is very low.
Here's a few myths. Chest of Rage: You can put this on a barrel in the lowest deck, have a little bit of water in the lower deck, and it won't set anything on the ship on fire. But will set the player on fire. Also the fire would release any harpoon if they're shot out and attached to something else. Cursed cannonballs are guaranteed on cannon rowboats found in random locations. Spamming Block and ringing the ships bell will give a good sound effect that amplifies everything around the player.
@JonBardcore It can be useful if you need to reset a glitched pirate but don't want to exit the game/alt f4. Like when there was that mast bug in hourglass.
The Chest of Rage one is true, however it does cause the water to boil, making the deck it is on unsafe to traverse. That and the water level has to be quite significant. It's ultimately not as helpful as just one player with a bucket keeping an eye on it unless if you're a solo slooper and even then it's risky.
@reonthornton685 that's what putting it on a barrel is for. If it's on a barrel (not the deck), and the deck has some water on it (enough to mostly cover the bed on a sloop) it won't boil the water and won't damage anything. But if you stand by harpoon/cannon when it goes off it'll make you catch fire
The one that I heard about the ghost is that it only spawns once 100 other megs have been killed on the server. After the 100th kill, the ghost instantly spawns on a random ship in the server, even if that means that a ship gets meg'd twice in a row
This is a myth. The alliance discords regularly run what's known as a Meg Hunt weekend where they have a full server and boats. During this time per encounter timer, which is roughly around 40-60 min you will get a meg spawn, per ship in the IMMEDIATE vicinity. What this means is you will have back to back spawns of 4-5 megs or one for every crew present. They do this until sever dies or interest wanes or the time period hits. They've definitely killed 100 megs in a "day" and it does not guarantee a shrouded ghost. It is rumored however that the drop rate is less than 1%. Now this may have changed when they redesigned the world event timer to throw people off of tracking Karen. I haven't participated in one in a very long time, but this is how it worked last year or so ago.
My family and I decided that there is a single person at Rare with hundreds of monitors watching every player on Sea of Thieves. and once a day they choose a person at random and press one button. That button is solely for spawning the Shrouded Ghost. One time on one person's game, once a day.
I spawned into SoT for the first time in two years two days ago. Coming up on an outpost I had the Shrouded Ghost spawn on me, and then immediately despawn because I was sailing toward the Outpost and got too close. This is the only time I've ever seen it.
The only time this is true is with bottles of rum that you get during merchant trade goods voyages. Any other piece of loot is safe to jump around at will!
@@keilafleischbein59 No, the only thing that can ever be devalued by what you do to it are the merchant items, such as not letting it touch water or not moving it around much, that being the cloth and the rum bottles, everything else cannot be devalued by any outward forces. No matter what
Myth I heard in regards to Shrouded Ghost: If you have Bananas on your ship, the Shrounded will never spawn on you, ever. This is only believed true because a friend of a friend mentioned this, removed the Bananas from their ship, and had that Meg spawn on them. Most certainly a myth, and spits in the face of our Banana Loving Bardcore.
10:17 Actually There Is A Way To Spawn One But You Need Merrick’s Drum (Only Obtained From The Hungering Deep) And Pretty Sure There’s A Cooldown For When You Can Spawn A Meg
@@JonBardcore Ah Ok. But I Think My Drum Is Good At Summoning Skelly Ships 💀 Seriously I’ve Been Playing The Shanty And 4 Megs Have Spawned And There’s Been Like 6 Skelly Ships. One Time I Know I Summoned Smth Because We Got A Meg AND A Skelly Ship 💀
I defeated the shrouded before Emissaries were made into the game. He’s right, it’s just pure luck. I was a solo sloop, hardly any loot and clear skies. My biggest SoT flex to this day.
The "repair ship" option is really only useful for gallons, as you could have open holes on the second floor that you don't have wood/don't want to spend time fixing, so a quick "fix" button push and she's all new! Wouldn't want to go into battle with a deck full of holes, just asking to be sank.
It does make a difference it resets all your holes. If you have a tier 3 hole and repair it with a plank as soon as it gets hit again it’s still a tier 3 hole unless you actually pay to repair the ship.
@@theikon8172 Nope, a tier 3 (actually tier 5/5, or 100%) hole, once patched, is still fully repaired. It could become a tier 1 (20%) trickle if "reopened" with a weak impact. Logic suggests the holes stay the same size, but they don't. Repaired is repaired; it just doesn't look pretty.
I've got a buddy who is dead set on believing repairing your ship at the shipwright helps with durability. I've sent him links to videos proving him wrong with visual evidence. He just says "you can't believe everything on the internet 😏". He had a full blown 30 minute discussion in the SoT discord, where everyone was telling him he's wrong, and he just laughs that all these people don't know what they're talking about. Oh well. Not my gold being wasted.
I once had the shrouded ghost spawn, not on me, but on a newbie ship I was pursuing, they sunk, it despawned, they had no idea what had just spawned on them.
as someone who spent lot of time fishing in isolated part of the map I can confirm.... things will keep spawning at you even if you're doing nothing.... Too much sometimes >.>
So if you leave the chest of sorrows on the very very front of the ship will it be fine or is it just a “if it’s on your ship it will flood regardless of location” type of thing?
It is now that last one. ORIGINALLY if it was on areas not considered THE SHIP, it would not fill it with water but that was like Year 1 possibly week 1. There also used to be one where if you put it on the rowboat, even if it was hooked, it wouldn't fill with water but they fixed that one too. I do wonder when they are going to fix the ladder one.
Part of the Myth of the Shrouded Ghost is due to the fact there was an event that you had to collect a bunch if things to call it and fight it. But after that event the ability to spawn it was removed
i have 124 hours on SoT i recently saw the shrouded ghost but Rare desiced to deny me the satisfaction by sending 3 player ships and a ghost patrol i sunk everyone sunk and the shrouded ghost got away
Wait, It was my understanding that raid voyages take you to a server where that event is already active? I'm pretty sure this the case because I've been spawned into a raid skeleton fort that was nearly done. Can we get confirmation on this one?
Yeah, I have 2000 hours in the game, and I have never once seen that Shrouded Ghost Meg. I've not ever heard any of these myths that you mention, except for I have heard the charging reaper treasure myth, and I knew that it was just a myth. Especially after I tried it once.
@@JonBardcore I have a question I just thought of regarding Ancient Skellies, since after 220 hours I've still never seen one. If you defeat one, does your whole crew get Ancient Coins? Also, if you're in an Allliance, do the other crews get 50%?
The shrowdbreaker from the tall tales let’s you exit the other world boundaries and not just to get to the shores of gold (if you play ‘maiden voyage’ on a ghost hurdy gurdy)
Well, it happened to us twice that the chest of sorrow started crying, my teammate played becalmed to it, and it stopped instantly. I've never heard about this myth before, it just happened. Now, it might have been just two very well timed coincidence, but i'm not convinced...
Im pretty sure there is a difference between athena kegs and gunpowder kegs, not woth the amount of holes they create but with the range of the explosion. Ive always heard that they will both create the same amount of holes but the athena kegs explosion radius is so large that it will almost certainly kill everyone on the ship no matter where you are.
While I had a camera on the ship for the viewpoint you saw in the video, I had Bardcore placing the keg and trying to flee before it exploded. With each keg, he was just a few feet short of the stairs to top deck and both explosions basically caused the same health damage. Neither killed him.
Kraken used to always spawn between world events, but does not anymore. Now it can happen at any time. So that also means that Kraken is now more rare than it used to be.
Personally I like the damage on ships. Its her scars of battle. Let her wear them with pride of getting our of your voyage in one piece. As an imperial merchant. All that matters is the Quota and the order to be delivered
What I want to know is, who at RARE thought it was a good idea to make you sell the chests? Why can't we just open the chests and collect the loot ourselves?
That's been a part of lore since game launch. The chests we collect are all cursed. Only Gold Hoarders have the keys to unlock them. We just get a cut.
with the repair thing I normally don't buy it but one time my ship got so burned that it was actually difficult to sea billow deck (this is a galleon) and I was forced to spend 11,000 on repairs
I wish people would just engage common sense, especially about myths of spawning. If all spawns were controllable then you'd simply pick the highest reward with the lowest risk balance and just keep creaming in the cash! Spawning in video games is designed to be mostly random, that's what gives games their challenge and entertainment, the unexpected challanges and making snap decisions on risk assessment, do I take the risk for the reward or cut my loses and run and you only get a few moments to decide so time pressure is added.
Myth: the playerbase will equally use all of the provided social features in the game roughly equally, and NOT treat it like a cod lobby where “Thieving” is understood to mean “always kill on site with no mic.”
(Unless im wrong) Repairing at the shipright will make a difference in sinking speed. This is bc of the tier of the hole, if you have a tier 3 hole, a plank wont change the tier and will be just as dangerous when the plank is broken.
bro me and my friend just started playing the game and we loot a fortress and a kraken+ a megalodon spawns on us after both is gone another megalodon spawns
A question about how you said a kracken only spawns during the world event being active, but didnt they make it so it can spawn at any time in season 10?
The ship repair one is actually not right. There are different tiers of holes that let in water faster. Tier 1 2 and 3 holes to be specific. So repairing your ship will make it where new holes will open as tier 1 instead of higher.
If you buy a captain's ship and actually quit thinking that you're gonna lose your ship instead of just respawning and seeing that it doesn't happen, good. Less dumb people to potentially run into, the better. Luckily, I'm willing to bet that's never actually happened.
i met the shroud once the only problem was it was my first time i set out to sea outside the tutorial i joined the game of corse the other person joined looked at me with no cosmetics or anything left instantly i chose a mission starting with gold horders and started to go i played a little bit and then my first ever random encounter a big meg which to someone who never even done basic ship combat and barely fought off a few skeletons on islands i ran away
Omg I totally perked up at the "song to stop the crying chest" part, and was like "WHAT?!" But then you totally brought me back to reality. Shame, that would be cool.
Yeah. Repairing a level 3 hole with a plank doesn't *fix* it back to level 1. I only *patches* the level 3. When that hole pops again, it'll be level three again. There is actual value to using the shipwright to repair. He made his own myth :(
6:38 although the athena keg is exactly the same as the stronghold keg, i still call it a gigakeg over a megakeg because it just FEELS more powerful. yes i know i'm wrong. yes it's entirely placebo effect. no i don't care.
This is not *necessarily* the case. It all depends on the type of impact on that hole. A chainshot, for example, will only give you a T1 hole at first impact.
Repairing your ship IS worth it. It's makes a *massive* difference. The size of the holes all over your ship never get smaller, only bigger with each successive hit if it does enough damage. A ship full of very large holes fills up much faster than a ship filled with small holes. Repair your ships often.
This is a complete myth. A 100% damage hole that's planked is functionally fully repaired. A weak impact like Chainshot will still only cause a 20% hole to that spot. Repair services are _strictly_ cosmetic only.
@@ryo-kai8587 This is demonstrably not true. From testing to documentation to wiki. While repaired, the hole is 100% repaired. But when that hole receives additional damage there is absolute math going on to determine whether that whole will increase in size or not.
@@austinno.1 I literally just went into the game and tested it myself. 2 cannonballs to the same spot. Gaping hole. Repaired it, one chainshot to the same spot. Tiny hole. End of story.
@@ryo-kai8587 Your anecdotal, tiny sample size is not indicative of game mechanics. Every given shot has a random chance to increase the size of an existing hole and one shot on a new panel can form a max size hole. Test harder. Other people have shown this to be true
Got to say I disagree with the second point. There’s different tiers of holes that put out more water. If you get hit in the same spot 3 times you get a tier three hole that will sink your ship faster then a 2 or 1 and when you board it up it just covers it so that when it opens again it will still be a tier three hole and you need to repair the ship at the ship wright or main menu in order to fully fix the ship
i have 1600 almost 1700 hours and i have yet to kill the shrouded ghost. i got her while i was keg stacking to get commenations to the merchants and athena kegs. she appeared and bit while moving all the kegs away from the deck
I thought the difference between athena kegs and mega kegs was that the athene has higher damage output against players, with potentially slower damage falloff and more range. Never tested it myself, just heared it a couple times from others.
Negative. While there was a camera trained on the ship, I had a second avatar actually placing the kegs and trying to escape the blast. In both cases, they reached the middle deck just a few feet from stairs. Explosion hits, they take like 60% damage.
Great video! I have another myth to check, but not sure how can I accomplish that. There's a myth about magma rocks in the Devil's Roar. The brighter they get - the closer the eruption is. I feel like that's a myth, but a lot of my friends believe it. Same for the event clouds. P.S. I'm already waiting for the next part, cause I'm pretty sure there's a lot more myths to check
Thanks for the compliment! Sorry though, I'm not understanding the ask about rocks. You said brighter the rock the closer the eruption? If you can see the rock, you're pretty close to the eruption anyway right?
@@JonBardcore you know, like. If the shiny rocks are not so shiny, then you have plenty of time. But if they are all yellow and bright, then soon the volcano will erupt
