This season, no one noticed that Clay was talking to ghost Hannah the entire season. Having full blown conversations. He needed help.

I actually felt like Bryce getting away with probation was pretty accurate to what happens in the real world.

This show misrepresents so many things about suicide 1. It makes it look like all suicidal teen's problems are from over dramatic teen problems 2. It romanticizes suicide at times 3. It makes it look like suicidal people just want revenge, are selfish, and don't want help So many mental health organizations have discredited this show, saying it is painting suicidal people wrongly, and how now the public is just gonna go off of this show

I honestly didn’t see the point in making a season 2, but now a season 3? That...seems a bit much, doesn’t it? How much do you have to remind us about how horrible the world is?

The biggest thing that pissed me off was the fact that she blamed Mr. Porter for actually listening to her? I don't know what she wanted him to do or say but in my opinion he did everything he could. Seeing him breaking down in the court room pissed me off so much that I legit wanted to stop watching the show. She terrorized everyone even after she killed herself, Mr Porter or Clay, thee scene where she literally almost drives him crazy so much that he wants to kill himself just to not hear her anymore was so fucking painful to watch. Like am I supposed to root for this chick?

Is it just me or all of the popular teen shows on netflix are super dark like 13rw, riverdale... I wonder what it means..

the one thing that i thought was weird about season 2 was that a lot of the plot was just an afterthought of season 1. for example, they obviously didn't plan that hannah and zach would get together in season 2 while they were making/filming season 1. hannah obviously forgave zach for what he did since she had sex with him and dated him for the entire summer. so... why is he even on the tapes? it doesn't make sense. that was clearly an afterthought of season 1.

I love how many people forget the actual story from the book. *BOOK SPOILERS* In the book, we learn everything from Clay's point of view and only through his eyes - as well as Hannah's tapes about the other characters. Other than that we don't get to know them at all, we barely interact with them don't really know what they even look like. (Which kinda sucks because I would have loved to see an epilogue in the book where every person has heard the tapes and meet one another or a look at how it changes them. We only hear about the effect of one character and that's only in one sentence, nothing detailed) In the end, I think the show lost the message from the book. Be careful what you're saying because you don't really know how someone's life really is. By the end of the book, Clay sends the tapes to the next person and finally learns the signs of suicide which leads to talk to his old crush who seems to suffer in silence like Hannah did. I find the ending of the book much more fitting (although admittedly it does lack of few things ) No hate to the fans of the show. Just wanted to share my opinion. I felt like Alex Standall’s suicide storyline was more realistic than Hannah’s (maybe to it being more subtle), coming from personal experience. We see more of the “warning signs” in season 1, ultimately leading to his suicide attempt. However I do believe the show portrays mental illness terribly.

Thank you, Alex, for another thought-provoking video essay. These issues are hard to bring into fiction and tv shows. Done right or wrong it is essential to understand the message being conveyed.

The reason S1 made more sense than S2 is because it had a source material to go off of and they tried to interpret it as best as they could. While S2 is basically a giant "what if" scenario with drama cliches that felt more unnecessary than informative and bringing self awareness. The book is clearly not meant to be stretched out this long but as usual Hollywood takes something good and destroys it by turning it into a cash cow

That one scene with Tyler's assault still haunts me. I still get flashbacks. It was brutal and very unnecessary: they still could've told this specific assault story in so many other ways that were not so raw. And I know that in the moment of watching the scene you are like "OH NO!", but it stays with you after that, like how that one movie you saw when you were 5 years old is still with you today. And this comment is coming from someone who loves horror films, because of the adrenaline. But that in particular gave me fear, but in its vulnerable gut-wrenching form, and I will never forgive the show for doing that to me and then, on top of that, leaving me hanging...

The only reason why Tyler didn't kill everyone is because this is hard to make a third season with everybody dead. And like you said, I have more empathy for Tyler than I had for Hannah in the first season.

this show is really unnecessary!! i understand what the show and writers are trying to do.. these conversations need to happen but they take it way too far!! and they just renewed for a S3.... which is great -_-

I felt that jessica's courtroom speech was probably the most accurately executed scene. And when they all hugged clay at the dance. Those were probably the only scenes tht made sense

I've seen a lot of season 2 reviews and while every one had somehow of a valid point I think you nailed it. That's why I love watching your videos, they make sense, they are straight forward and your point actually makes sense.

The justice system is just fucked up and they wanted to show it. But the main point was to point out other perspectives. So in the end its still the same Hannahs death was final and pointless. I think thats better rather than to say "Oh her death meant something". Like justice for everyone.

As someone currently in high school and at one point was bullied, the show fails miserably in showing an actual high school, it is way to overdramatized.

You describe exactly the problem I have with 13 reasons why. It claims it wants to start a conversation, but shows conversations that fails all the time. It wants to say there is other solution and you can get help, but it shows you that things never change. That there is no justice, and never will. There is no positivity or solutions, just darkness. Of course I don't expect a show about suicide to be all joy and unicorns. But maybe shows that the world is not as dark as it may seem. That there are people willing to help, and who will succeed in helping you. That things will get better, that there is justice in this world. Just that.

I think season two was more focused on the bullying culture in schools than about a conclusion to Hannah’s story and they maybe did that to show that suicide will never have a conclusion and that Hannah’s story and her pain will forever live on in the people she knew, in her killing herself it transferred everything she felt in to people like her mum and clay effectively shown through clays hallucinations. It seemed like it was to start a conversation about more than suicide. I feel like the message of season three- especially since they focused on the court room situation- was how fucked up the justice system is and the part with Justin and Bryce is showing how people with money can buy their way out of situations without ever having to face the consequences. Tyler’s story is hard to watch but that’s the point, stuff like that happens and nobody does anything but when people like Tyler lash out and get their hands on a gun it isn’t looked at as a preventable situation but more of just who can we pin the blame on, people will maybe shed a tear but will just go back to their own little bubble. I personally am interested in how season 3 will carry on the story of Tyler and to see if it brings more topics of discussion to light, like school shootings, especially after all the protesting recently I think I will be very interesting to see what 13rw has to say. Also don’t come for me because I failed my English exam so I’m shit at analysing. Also also sorry for the length but I feel like I could go on forever about 13rw.

Well I understand yout point of view Alex. My understanding of the show is that we can keep offering help to the victims of bullying but what Tyler's storyline tought us is that we should shift the attention to the bullies and not just punish them only in the end. A bullied person wouldn't exist in the first place if the bully gets the attention and is placed in a program that actually teaches them better ways to act without violence. We see Tony having problems with the law for expressing unnecessary violence when he comes from justified feelings of redicule and need to protect himselt but we see him wanting to control his anger. On the other hand we see people like Bryce and Montgomery commiting violence without any justified feelings, as if they are evil just to be evil without having any ounce of humanity. The real tragedy is that Tyler wanted to be better, control himself and see the good in people after he finished his programme. He accepted all that he lost, the girl that he liked and his 1 friend. He was almost ready to possibly move on until the world came crushing down again and that was the last drop. How can you blame him? The system failed him because it focused on teaching him how to deal with bullying, self-confidence and forgiving himself for his mistakes but there is no system for the bullies unless they actually do destroy someone's life, then we deal with them. So Tyler was labeled as a critical case by the school, his file sitting on a counsellor's desk because he needs support but no one asked why? Why does he need support? Why is he a critical case? Who is causing this situation? He gets help while the bullies are free to roam the school corridors. How is that gonna change anything?

I've never commented on a video before, so here's a first... as a mental health professional, I cringe at some of the dramatization of 13 Reasons Why. But I really appreciated the second season. It showed there are multiple perspectives that are valid to every story, and did a good job at being nuanced regarding these complex experiences people go through each day. To say season two was bad because it didn't "take a stance" is completely missing the point of the show. Because it was, very much, taking one. I see it everyday in my office. The back and forth. The people who inadvertently cause a reaction in another's life. I actually thought season 2 reconciled some of the unhealthy aspects of season 1 by showing the multiple perspectives. And, unfortunately, as terrible as it is, the progression of Tyler Down is fairly accurate. The fact they make it sympathetic to the viewer is the same risk they take in season one - not to promote the activity, but to voice how such a tragic activity can come out of experience after experience, so we can have a conversation and hopefully, as a society, affect some actual change. You said the message of this show is a level of helplessness the characters feel. That occurs, day to day, for thousands of teens and people in general. Do not minimize it. We do need to talk about it. And at least 13 Reasons Why is starting hundreds of conversations that have been taboo to discuss in the past.

I felt the exact same thing about the show.... we live in a messed up world, and even though you don't "live" the horrors it entails, you don't necesarily watch YA series to get up and personal with tough situations. Personaly I felt physicaly sick with Tyler scene and completely understood his position and final episode decision, which imo is sending a completely self destructive message to teens everywhere! In that show bullies run free, parents go by without noticing a thing or being able to do anything for their kids, and teens are handling way too much on their own.

The thing about 13 reasons why season 2 is that these stories are based on real life stories. Injustice, bullying, rape. This whole season was really good to be honest. They did real life issues, and showed them. Tyler did not become a hero. The point of season 1 was for a vicitm to see there is a way out from your dark thoughts, you can get help. Season 2 was showing how hard it is to see mental health issues, and they had the realistic approach. I get people thought it was too hard of a hit but keep in mind these scenarios actually did happen. They are based on real life stories.

I think a lot of people missed the point of season two. It showed the aftermath of Hannah's actions and the fact that a lot of people DID care about her

Although this is a slightly more peripheral subject, what I think the show did really well and I really appreciated was the realism of the experience the students were having as current-day high school students. I thought this show could be a really effective message to parents to understand what life is like for the modern teenager. Personally I found that my parents were clueless and when I was in high school and college dealt with things my parents had zero idea I was struggling with. Too many adults don't comprehend the difficulties the modern teenager has to endure and navigate. Alex, you said you didn't think season 2 had a message, but I personally saw it screaming in every episode to parents to get involved with their kids lives and to truly care and invest in them. Messed up or distant parents create messed up and detached kids. I know that's a broad statement, but the lack of good parenting I believe is a major factor.

The worst thing is that there’s actual people stanning, defending, and acting like Justin Foley is innocent. • Just because he testified and served well deserved time doesn’t change the fact he let his girlfriend get raped •• Just because he has a sad Hollywood “my father/step-father abuses” trope doesn’t change the fact he didn’t do anything to stop it; only knocked on the door once before stopping to feel sorry for himself. ••• Just because he lived on the streets and became a drug addict doesn’t change the fact he never told Jessica - making her feel like she’s crazy, resulting in her hanging out with her rapist. •••• Just because he’s now brothers with Clay doesn’t change the fact we wanted to murder Clay for wanting to tell Jessica the truth about what happened to her. Justin Foley is an awful person. He’s a disgusting person (so is Bryce - don’t get me wrong he can burn in Hell. Also Hannah could’ve tried more). But since Justin is attractive he’ll get the fangirl treatment and be loved. It’s just how it works.

I think they want to show things the way they are, for instance with what happened (or did not happened) to Bryce... I'd hate the show if it was like "all is well, bad guys always lose, the world is a wonderful place". Let's be honest, guys like Bryce usually find a way to get away with... everything. Nothing we can do. What I didnt like on season 2, is the way school didnt handle things. Season 1 was a lesson "the way we treat each others and look out for each others... it has to get better somehow" (clay 1x13) They could have done SO MUCH more to stop bullying! That's the wrong message. Maybe they cannot do anything about justice in court, but they could have done something in their own high school! They only thing they did was to forbid every conversation about suicide. It's like season 1 didnt matter because they didnt do ANYTHING about everything that was going on. Like if they were powerless... if that show want to send a message, that is definitely not the right one

Within the first few seconds u described what it was intended to be. Netflix tried to change stuff but in the source material she survived her suicide attempt and pretended to stay dead to make everyone feel bad and regret their actions.

So the show shows how victims of sexual assault never get redemption and the predators get away with it... how does that help victims? won’t that make people LESS likely to come forward as this shows no one will do anything about it? and people won’t believe you????

For English Class I was reading the novel “Nineteen Minutes” by Jodi Picoult. Basically it was about the aftermath of one of the main protagonists (Peter Houghton) shooting up his school. Now while I reading the novel I couldn’t help but become more sympathetic to Peter and his story. Which made me question how we view school shooters and those troubled kids. Like Tyler was being bullied like Peter and he had enough of the abuse, but it felt justified and it felt like he did what he had to do to stop whatever was going on with him. I feel like that’s what these authors and the writers of the show was trying to do. Where they trying to make us question our morals and make us ask ourselves who is really the victim of a school shooting? Because of course people like Peter commit these crimes and they are the cause of an everlasting wound to these families, but do we have to know more about them to sympathize with them and their crime? It really questions your morals and how you view the world, also I love you videos Alex keep up the good work!

Beautifully done, as always. I've adored your series on Riverdale from the beginning, but seeing you approach subjects like 13 Reasons Why is yet another reason (ha) I subscribed. You hit the nail on the head for exactly how I felt about the show - it went out of its way to depict the world how Hannah saw it. Bad things happen, everybody gets hurt, and there's nothing you can do about it. People like Bryce, who cause others so much suffering, go unpunished for what they've done. It's an excruciatingly pessimistic view on the world, and one that's far from needed, considering the current state of things. 13 Reasons Why, in both seasons, did a good job of depicting a lot of subjects realistically... A little too realistically, in fact, including the slander of both Hannah and Jessica in order to get Bryce off the hook, as you mentioned. I've experienced quite a few of the things that Hannah has, most notably her experience with losing Jessica as a friend, bullying, and mental health. I've struggled to get through both seasons because it's just incredibly depressing to watch Hannah go through these experiences and get absolutely no resolution, no justice, nothing. Her death ultimately results in no change whatsoever, and that's a lot for anyone to handle when they're already dealing with mental health issues. Not to mention what message the show is ultimately sending its viewers - life is suffering, there's nothing you can do about it, and people can do whatever they want without punishment. The only way out of that is either to die, or bring people to justice yourself by walking into school with a gun.

I agree wholeheartedly. You always manage to give us some good fruit for thought... Though, the reason the second season doesn't have much of a purpose is probably because the second season wasn't expected at all, and since the material from the book was covered in the first season, they clearly didn't know what to do. Although I know some people will disagree with me, I think another huge problem with the show in general is that is tries to be both a "teen-drama" and a "PSA" (Public Service Announcement) at the same time. PSAs are meant to spread awareness for something through an announcement. Now, most PSAs know to handle sensitive subjects very carefully, because their purpose is to benefit the viewer and give them a clear understanding of the topic presented to them. Teen dramas strive off drama and benefit from more confusion, more controversy, or just generally being more different. When you put these together, you get a mess like 13 Reasons Why. Since it is a teen drama, the show thrives off the controversy of talking about the topic of suicide and possibly depression (although mental illness was barely addressed in the show from what I've seen.) However, since it's also a PSA it's supposed to serve as some awareness for anyone who might be less educated on that topic, present a sense of realism and maybe even "set and example" for how to handle mental illness if I really was to stretch it. This sort of mix can be dangerous for the viewer, (at least in my opinion) because the show blatantly ignores simplicity and subtlety to spark controversy and promote a shock factor, but at the same time undermine what it's promoting. For example, the scene in season one where Hannah Baker commits suicide its incredibly explicit. To my knowledge, psychologists have even told the script writers they should not explicitly show Hannah Baker slitting her wrists for the sake of viewers who may either think to do the same, or maybe have unwanted memories brought back. To add to that, the original book had her die of an overdose, which is a much less gruesome death. My point is, the reason this scene was included was because it would spark controversy, it's there for shocking the audience and getting them to talk about it. If 13 Reasons Why was ONLY a teen drama, however gruesome that may be I can understand the reason they did it; because they wanted the publicity. However, it's also seen as a PSA, and I mentioned earlier what psychologists think of it, so I'm sure you can easily tell that while it's good for publicity it's not quite good for supporting those who are going through depression and facing suicidal thoughts; meaning it ends up undermining the "true goal" the show is trying to promote. This is only one scene in the two seasons and there's a few more that could be written and handled much better, even the message the show ends up promoting; which seems like "if you're feeling suicidal, nobody is going to help you because its a mean world out there." However that's just my overall opinion and how I see it. I do understand that some believe those explicit scenes are in there for not only shock factor but to give the viewers a taste of reality, and that some who feel uncomfortable about it need to understand that it does happen. And I agree, people need to be aware of it, but there are much better ways to show how real suicide is without showing her wrists getting slit. There are ways to portray the horrid feelings of terror and sadness and confusion people face in multiple situations in the show, but I firmly believe they could have and should have been handled better. I don't mean to cause any arguments; I'm simply stating my opinion.

Season 1: Hanna is a victim mostly of herself, but seeks revenge on others. Season 2: Tyler is an actual victim and seeks revenge on others. Season 3: Bryce is an abuser turned victim seeking redemption and everybody seeks revenge on him. Season 4: Literally everybody is a victim and seeks revenge on the school. Except now Clay is a mixture of Bryce and Tyler. And the student body loves him. Enough to let him be the speaker at graduation. There are exactly 49 reasons why this generation is fucked. This show teaches people that revenge solves literally everything. And it received awards.

After what happened to tyler my fictional brain was like time Carrie some things up

Season 2 kinda made sense. There was definitely some story to tell especially with the revelations at the end. But damn season 3 and 4 might have damaged society's views of these deep issues the show tries to cover. So dumb.

While I don't like 13 reasons why and the way it portrays mental illness, I feel that maybe they could have done a second season if they had made a completely separate story. A story of complete different people that have no connection to the school, to hannah or anything from season 1. Since season 1 was based on the entire book, this season could have been a totally new 'book' while still focusing on the different aspects they wanted to (making the new focus character a school shooter in the making, sexual assault, etc). It would have portrayed a better sense of the real world and not have made the shows world (the highschool) so abysmal and hopeless. There also won't have been the whole Hannah's ghost thing and Clay's omnipotent power to change people. It should have been a different stories with different characters with each season.

The message of season two is that everyone has different sides of the story with Hannah. Hannah told her side of what happened to her, but we later find out that there were a lot more layers to it.

Actually I liked season 2 , first of all we saw the other side of Hannah's story . And it shows how everything is in real world , it is not easy to get justice, but who knows what is going to happen in season 3 (I don't know why I saw this video 1 year later)

My main problem with this show was how it glorified suicide in a way. Hannah blamed everyone else for her suicide and while some of them may have made her think the way she did, there were others who wanted to help her and tried to help her. She blamed people for 1) things they didn’t even do and 2) things they couldn’t change. She never got help for mental help and refused ANY help given, yet blamed those people for not helping. She screamed “LEAVE” to Clay then got mad at him for leaving? He didn’t want to leave and refused for a while but she pushed him away.

I honestly liked this show. I completely agree with what you said, but the only thing that really bothered me was Hannah's character. I guess I didn't feel that sorry for her, considering she blamed some things on people that aren't really bad.

Yes! While I think an examination of *why* some boys are so angry that they will kill their classmates ir children definitely has its place, the fact that Tyler's story is built quietly up throughout the entire season and then left on this note of sympathy and this idea that any student could stop a school shooting with his niceness, or that he should even be protected from the law is irresponsible story telling at best. Somehow even worse than the "if we are nicer to people, they won't kill themselves" that season one ended on. (I was very happy they immediately cleared that up in season 2 via the character of Skye. Yikes. Be nice to people, but the mentally ill need doctors and professional help, as well.)

I've actually heard that Betterhelp doesn't screen their therapists, and they're actually pretty bad at being effective and understand therapists.

That's not even the worse part. Clay really gets handle the hot potato on this season. Not only does he discovers that Hannah was not that innocent or a victim as she liked to believe as seen through her tapes, but he's once again the one having to juggle with the mess Hannah left. Honestly if there's a season 3 (and I hope there isn't) I can see Clay dying in the end. Either he's killed or he kills himself. The guy already has his own issues. Main issue being he's still in love with Hannah even after everything. But now he's likely the one to take the fall for Tyler. And who knows what else. I guess if there's any message in this show. Is that those that commit suicide fuck the lives of everyone that cared about them in life. That in the end those are the ones that pay the real price. Because in the end Hannah is dead and this is no longer her issue, but those that are alive are now paying for her petty revenge just because she killed herself believing she had no one to turn to, when in fact she had all the reasons to live. Like in that scene in Season 1 where we saw that if she had accepted Clay's help she would not have killed herself. The two would begin dating. And we even saw that scene where it seemed Clay was telling Hannah mother how they were getting married or something like that. Hannah could've had that future instead she decided to mess up everyone's life. But who cares right?! She's dead so it isn't like this is gonna backfire on her. Clay and Tyler so far are the ones that have paid the heaviest price. And if there's a season 3, then it might very well be the one we get to see Clay die trying to help someone or in order to get the real culprits to face Justice. He meets Hannah in the afterlife. And this show would then have sent the worse possible message EVER. That if you feel this world isn't for you then don't worry, just die and meet the ones you love on the "other side". 13 Reasons Why at this point needs to move on from this characters and be done correctly with a whole new set of characters. They could even do a show that mimics the game Life Is Strange! It sure would be way better than *13 Reasons Why You Should Not Mess Other People's Lives.*

The second season just made me more confused cuz season one made it like she was alone but she had a lot more relationships and friends than they showed. Yet again they go back to blaming everyone in her life for pushing her over the edge. Then comes the gruesome scene with Tyler and I was balling crying and shocked. I understood why he wanted revenge and I never sympathized with Hannah for some reason

Season 2 was simply just made to earn money and satisfy all the fans. I agree that I as well want to know what happens after but season 2 was just so different and off topic from the first season until the very last episode of season 2. The first season being a really tough to watch with harsh scenes of sexual assault and bullying and suicide, the characters were confused and didn't know what to do and the viewers and Clay wanted to know what actually happened. And then the second season comes and everyone is trying to move on and everything which is fine but they don't have a goal and neither does the viewers except for wanting Bryce to go to jail.

Tyler should have gone through with the shooting. The season was telling the story that the justice system is corrupt and doesn’t work. It was telling us the only way to solve it was in our own hands. It had a really good and tense ending scene on its hands and then they just switched it up to prevent controversy. Apparently they even shot the scene of Tyler shooting up the school and you can hear bits of the original scene in the final version.

Please tell me you plan to address season 3...its pretty bad..

The issue is that all the other characters pretending to have listened to all the tapes.... but in the show it's like the story's progress depends on which tape Clay is on............ WHY?

Hannah not seeking help in S1 is half the point. You're supposed to see that she had a way out and that her finial choice was waste of a life. That's half the message. 13 Reasons S2 was a dumpster fire. It even made S1 worse... The 2nd series continues to dwell on all the worst aspects of the first series - we didn't need a 2nd meditation on what's wrong, we needed something that looks at a way forward. The 2nd series SHOULD have been mostly about Skye, about struggling with depression and overcoming it. Clay should be a friend to Skye, there should be no romance/dating there (Hot tip: Romance, sex and dating only adds fuel to the emotional fire of someone in crisis). Series 2 should have been "13 Seasons Why Not" and been a story about people dealing with their shit. It's interesting that series 2 briefly flirts with that idea in the later half, with Hannah's list of "why not". But it's far too little, and serves mostly as a throwaway IMHO. By staying bogged down in the worst of humanity we rob the first series of hope, and we ruin that moment of Clay reaching out to Skye. That's not to say we shouldn't look at what's addressed in Series 2 - but series 2 retreads a lot of what was in series 1, and the new stuff could have been a different show with different characters. I worry that series 2 is everything people worried series 1 was, and worse yet, retroactively transforms series 1 into something it wasn't.

From my perspective, it is a show about how people that kill themselves don't know how much they meant to other people, and is trying to tell people not to kill themselves because people do care, even if you don't notice it.

I hate to be this person but.. the book was really good. Honestly. Yeah it might not have portrayed depression as accurately as it could have but everything about it was much more believable.

Season 2 was sooo dragged out. I didn't like it. It just felt "tagged" on. and now a season 3? I fell like this is just milking a show, that cant be milked ?

13 reasons why is just a terrible show trying to display mental illnesses in a real world and fails as it try’s to be entertaining to the audience as well. But at least they are getting people to discuss mental illness which is good. EDIT: Could you do a video on Krypton or westworld tv show?

Some shows don’t have a positive message. Take another example, Thirteen. It starts with a seventh grader with a close friend group. It ends with the same seventh grader being drug addicted and cutting and loosing her only friend. It’s a look into the life of a teen. It doesn’t have a good message

I can't believe it got renewed

I think many people don't really understand that what they show is pretty much the real world... why do people do shootings in school, people who do horrible things don't get a "fair" sentence, and there are always (at least) two sides of a story ... in this case much more than 2. clay thinks he knew Hannah but she was much different than he thought. through the season he finds out and feels more and more like he didn't knew her at all. I think its a good show. I found it pretty emotional to watch. just my opinion

I think the message is that everything is messy, everyone reacts differently to attacks and most of the times we don’t get justice. Oh and we will be scrutinized until they can justify what has been done to us.

i’ve read the book. it’s a disgusting portrayal of suicide, supporting the idea that suicide can be used as a form of revenge or guilt tripping. it turns a very dark and serious topic into a typical high school drama with an extra edge that isn’t typically found because the topic *is* very delicate. i refuse to support the show, both because of this and the fact that it ignored all advice given by mental health professionals that they sought out to try and portray things *accurately.* the fact that it’s as popular with teens as it is is really disturbing to me.

I love season 2. it shows that not all people that commit suicide are innocent. they make stupid decisions when they were living too JUST like everyone else. Season one showed what people want to see when people pass away, the good things because we miss them. cant wait for season 3

My problem with the show is that it drifts from the book which actually portrayed Hannah very well and how real victims feel. Season one started ok but it drifted to far. Season 2 didn't need to happen because there wasn't a second book so it didn't work like I understand what they were going for but it just fell short.
