Now that is one odd steam engine, with that big tank? out front and no pistons/cranks under the actual boiler. Kind of wondering what that extra tank car after the engine was - extra water? Pity it had to be hauled back by the diesel electric.
The extra tank car is for water, to increase range between filling up. Not many convenient places on the network now where locos can get water delivered at a fast rate to ensure a quick stop.
