One of the biggest wrecks ever discovered in Spain was the Triunfante, sunk during a French siege in 1795. The excavation for the Triunfante was carried out from 2008-2010 and the goal was to carry out a study of the unique Naval architecture that the ship utilised.

It’s almost amazing that a wooden ship is still intact after over 200 years!!!!!

I love history and conservation, but I have to say the first part of the documentary was a bit annoying. The constant whining about the "plundering", when your own country does nothing to protect or excavate the site. And I never bought the idea that the general tourist is the worst plunderers. A tourist on vacation does not have the skills/utility to remove a canon. This is done by locals or professional treasure hunters. BTW, I love Spain, I grew up there.

In the end, the system failed because of pride. The Spanish masters would not accept ideas from the English, There was a sense of competition and each side thought they did things better. I love it that they spy on technology and then refer to it as "importing" the knowledge. 🙂
