Like I said in the intro it's been a long time coming for this one. The United States Army Corps of Engineers M/V MISSISSIPPI. She was moving right along at aprox. 8 mph which limited my time making the video. The audio is also from this boat but she wasn't making very much noise as she went by.

She came to Davenport Iowa in 2013 I believe it was, and I had the privilege of going on her with my friend and we ended up meeting the lady who is in charge of all the purchasing for the ship. And we bought a fleece jacket and some hats from her. She was so nice she had the greatest job. It's really an educational exhibit too the way they had it set up. I absolutely love it! One of the best things my tax dollars have ever been spent on. She came back to Davenport in 2020 but there was COVID and you couldn't go on her. That made me very sad. I'd say she makes it up here about once every 7 or 8 years.

Anyplace seeing the Mississippi River is still my favorite place in the world. I wish I could move closer to the Mississippi but I’m stuck.

That is a beast. Thank you for sharing. I live in the Southern San Joaquin Valley of California and would never have the pleasure of watching one of these motor by much less the close-ups that your drone gets its exciting. I've spent a little time over many years around the Sacramento Delta but nothing like these waters. 😊

Mississippi 241 x 58 x 8 (3) cat 3606 diesel 2100 HP per 6300 HP 3 five blade props 93" diameter, 59,883 gallons diesel forward 20,352 gallons aft burns 6,270 a day shoving 16 barges $23,447.321 when built in 1993. The steam towboat Sprague was 276 x 61 x 7.6 and if she had been running today would still be the largest towboat built ran from 1902-1948, she will always be THE towboat.

With 3 engines and being that size, I’d venture to guess around 3000 HP each so 9 or 10K HP total

This must be a new boat with the rotating engines. The Corps has another monster that is a dredge, and older, that works its way around.

It's an administrative vessel whose main purpose is inspections and coordinating repair and construction operations all along the river. You can't really do that from an office suite in Memphis. It also responds to natural disasters. After Hurricane Katrina, the Mississippi V was the command center for all the Corps relief efforts in the region, until land based assets could be brought in to help. So, it actually is a very important vessel for our nation to keep in our inland waterway fleet.

@@kentalanlee Might as well be as al it really has ever accomplished Could easily have been done on one heck of a lot less expensive and shoey tow barge. That Tow that traveling Circus is a serous over statement, for any country. it's total existence serves for no real practical purpose outside of pumping up the ego's of the generals who serve the Army Corps of engineers, who I may remind you that they alone have done more damage to our river system that any other entity.

@@byronexley6829 Not true. It's specifically outfitted like a modern communications center for disaster relief and security monitoring in disasters, as well as its role in maintaning levees. Which has saved huge areas of farmland and various cities over the years. No commercial tow boat is built like that. So no.
