Does anyone realize the debt that modern country music owes to the Byrds for hepping all those young people in the late 60's and early 70's to how cool country music/country rock music can be? Saw these guys many times and they were always amazing. Clarence White deserves to be mentioned with the best guitarists who ever played.
The only reason to watch this particular clip would be to see Clarence White play and for some reason the cameraman avoids him? McGuinn, Whom I think very highly of, is just going through the motions on this performance. He has performed this song much, much better than this. And why is the cameraman fascinated by someone playing the cowbell? Actually, it seems that throughout the 1960's and 1970's the people who filmed or videotaped rock music performances knew very little about the music. At least this person didn't resort to pseudo-psychedelic video graphic techniques of the type that spoiled Cream's farewell concert video or cinema verite' manipulations such as were used in the Woodstock documentary. However, you can't just chalk this up to the fact that this is from a different era and that "they just didn't know any better back then" because I have seen many jazz performances from the 1950's and 1960's in which the cameramen knew enough to focus on the musicians who were soloing. That said, I don't want to be a total grump. I am thankful for this post.
Somewhere there must exist the original footage of this, so someone can do a proper cut, with decent sound and picture quality. This looks like NASA arranged the transmission!
