One of the educationalist from Southern India once said A great Teacher inspires good teacher explains average teacher teaches (what is in the book) poor teacher complains Teaching is not just to pass the information nicely because no one can pass all the information available to others but rather is to ignite the minds to go and look for information and understand something clearly.
Being a feeble minded high school dropout. I can't get enough of these videos. Your a very captivating speaker and teacher. Motivating like a preacher on Sunday morning.
I was sad to learn that these lectures were removed from MIT's webpage. I use them frequently to remind myself of topics I learned in Physics, as well as to show young students I mentor the "fun of physics". Thanks for posting them here, Professor Lewin! Hopefully the whole issue with MIT hasn't affected you too much.
As a high school freshman my school doesn't allow me to take astronomy or any science class except bio and chem so your lectures are really nice for learning Thanks so much for these lectures
"It is my wish that all of you during life, not after death, find the right companion, radiate and be happy" One of the most inspiring thing I've ever heard.
I can't find the proper words to express myself, but I want to tell you that you have not just inspired me, but you've changed my life, made me love Physics and a bit more, which I can't tell you now, but I will and hopefully I will do this personally! This is the way people should be taught and no other else. A HUGE thank you Prof. Lewin!
Never seen einstein and newton but I see you (sir lewin) . You make us feel physics . Be very thankful to reveal that beauty of physics sir ...... Love from india.
You are an inspiration to students and other teachers alike. You have activated a hunger for knowledge and wisdom, inspiring me to plan my future and become a better individual. I am grateful to have been taught by such an admirable person. Thanks from Nepal!
Professor, if you could teach quantum mechanics or relativity, what demos would you perform? I ask because those two subjects deal with microscopic and macroscopic objects, which many believe is hard to perform any experiment on!
BEST SCIENCE LECTURE SEEN SO FAR. WISH WE HAD PROFESSORS LIKE YOU ...SIR. YOU ARE BLESSED AND VERY MUCH RESPECTED FOR US. WHERE CAN I WATCH YOUR OTHER LECTURES?
Lectures by Walter Lewin. They will make you ♥ Physics.Prof. one general question,WHY is it that the maximum stable mass of a white dwarf equal to CHANDRASEKHAR LIMIT?thank you
I have a question for Professor Lewin. If the gravity of the singularity at the centre of a black hole is so great that even light cannot escape from it, surely, for light to be pulled back inside the event horizon, it MUST either move faster than the speed at which it was leaving - which was THE SPEED OF LIGHT or remain static so that all the photons "pile up" at the event horizon. Since the speed of light is supposed to be finite, which is it?
At the event horizon, the escape velocity is equal to the speed of light. Since general relativity states that nothing can travel faster than the speed of light, nothing inside the event horizon can ever cross the boundary and escape beyond it, including light.Apr 9, 2020
@@lecturesbywalterlewin.they9259 This is my whole point. If the escape velocity is the speed of light, for anytthing to be prevented from escaping, it MUST be 'pulled back' at a speed (or, more correctly, with a force) GREATER than that at which it was escaping.
I have a question.when I saw a supernova explosion in a science documentary it make enormous sound, but in space there is no medium for sounds right ,so there would be no sound isn't it ?? if yes then is it the explosion without sound.how unimaginable it is !!!
I am literally glued to youtube because of you right now. Hey, I need a job damnit! I wonder if an X mark the spots is required or the opposite. If the opposite is required then, Shiz I have no clue.
the x is NOT required in any way as far as my 8.01x and 8.02x courses are concerned. 8.01x and 9.02x have a better resolution than 8.01 and 8.02 and they problem sets and exams and solutions and also Lecture Notes. No other sites whale that.
a white dwarf is approx as large as the Earth but it's density is about 300,000 times higher. A neutron star has a diameter of about 10 km. It's density is close to 10^14 g/cm^3 which is the density of nuclei. I mention all that in this lecture. Plse watch it again.
Sir as last iron persists and lead to end of that.... probably this is the reason why Mars is red in colour and small in size as it is exhausted to that much so only iron left which oxidise to give it red colour
Lectures by Walter Lewin. They will make you ♥ Physics. thanks professor...but quantum mechanics is hard to understand for me.... can't digest at all..still trying to consume the whole...only partly understood..
an acceptable (but not 100% accurate) way is to assume that the magnetic dipole field of the original star (white dwarf) remains in tact. If you shrink a sphere with a dipole field B and radius 10,000 km to a sphere whose radius is 10 km, then the B-field at the surface will increase by a factor of 10^6 (surface area decrease).
good what strange is that,so the collapse will occur as a result of enormous heat body how could year be the magnitude time that will assume continues in billions?
