I have seen pictures of these machines many times in my life and I only realized now that this is a form of Van Der Graaff generator. Nice. Thanks for your series, I do enjoy the way that you combine disparate facts into a timeline immensely.
My subtitles are set up in a way so that anyone can add new subtitles in another language. In fact, one of my videos has been translated into Arabic and I think another one has been translated into Korean by some nice viewers. If you speak more than one language and would like to translate it I would be more than happy to help in anyway I can including giving you the script for the subtitles. Thanks Kathy
Kathy in the case of Venus Electric, without kiss, would she get the same shock if she jumps suddenly from the insulated stool to the ground? And what would happen if she is not staying on the insulated stool at all from the beginning? What happens exactly during the shock?
Venus is only on the stool to prevent the escape of the static electricity she held. So ultimately she would also experienced the shock also. The only difference is she would be prepared for/trained/immune to the experience where in contrast it would be quite the experience for a gentleman most likely never having even experienced a static shock before as this was a time before carpet & footwear made of materials used in the modern world. _Back then the gentlemen wouldn’t have even needed a pen to get Venus’ phone number, as it would have only been two or three digits. However pulling out a pen would have been rather impressive & increased their chance of her giving it to them._ I hope that helps Michael.
"...finally women were being involved with experiments and not just for kisses." LOL Somehow, I'm certain that a few more kisses were extracted "for experimental purposes" since then
3:22 Small mistake. Beatification is, in the Catholic church, a formal declaration regarding someone's sainthood, usually a step towards canonization, which is formally declaring him/her a saint and proposing the person as an example for Christians to imitate, and authorizing veneration of that person (not adoration). From an artistic point of view, drawing a halo around someone's head means sainthood in general. What the wizard did by calling his experiment "beatification" was simply a joke.
Ya know, Starbucks should portion off royalty to you for helping their business. I spend any extra $12 on drinks and treats watching your videos! Before I know it you emulate the cliffhangers of the 30/40s and I buy another drink and treat...to enjoy the next "ExCiTiNG" Chapter...lol! Which "sparked" an idea for your consideration even though it's might not be directly electric science oriented, but maybe you can merge parts that are and make it work! The early movies from silent to sound! How and Who had the idea that sound could be synced for movies! Bet it was like your FM Radio Howard Armstrong and RCA story where support turned to friends, turn to rivals to bitter enemies! Although I prefer happy friendship endings!
No such thing. The Tatars were living in yurts in central Asia though. If you're so interested there are loads of yt uploads by actual Tatars, about their culture and traditions. You can go and ask them how they feel about the loss of their global empire and the destruction of their architectural legacy. . If you really believed this bs you would. But deep down you don't so you won't.
I mention Louis Latimer a bit in my book but I have yet to make a video about him. He was a very interesting person and his father was also very interesting but his work on the lightbulb wasn’t really used much as it was done for a rival of Edison’s called Maxim who gave up on lighting to make the first machine gun! As Latimer didn’t want to make guns he ended up working as the technical expert for Edison in lawsuits.
What set up did you use in your kitchen? Looks like a electric drill connected to a plate or something? I'd love to try this at home! Curious how to re-create this :)
It was super simple and easy. I bought a large plastic lid and drilled a hole in it and put a screw in the hole. I then had my friend spin the lid with the same drill/screwdriver while she rubbed it with fur (I am sure that wool would work well too). I then stood on a plastic box and touched the spinning lid with a large aluminum turkey pan and voila, I made a DIY Van-de-Graff machine for like $8 (and a drill). Good luck! (oh, the alcohol in the pan was 90% proof and I lit it on fire for a second first to heat it up a bit. I also found that a spark from my finger was too small to ignite the alcohol which is why my fingers are curled).
Shruti Shrivastav I’m guessing it was a bit of a nationalist thing. At the time science theories and patriotism were kind of mixed so a theory from a Country that you didn’t like was suspect.
tartaria. imagine how much electricity we had in the past that was covered up by robber barrons. Not everything was so well documented hundreds of years ago... entire electrified cities that were closed to the world, like Japan was, could have existed and wiped out
