Yeap! Beyoncé specifically focuses on black American southern culture in the Texas /Louisiana creole region ! Which is vastly different southern black American culture in South Carolina, Georgia, North Carolina region , etc
I’m so happy she came to my hometown of Dallas, Texas! Often overshadowed by Houston but it’s cool! The nicest people, RICH CULTURE, and so much pride. DIRTY DIRTY DALLAS BABY!
This was exciting, being from Houston and originally from east Texas. I get a sense of pride when I see Texans. There are so many famous people from Texas and I notice we tend to be really humble people.
This was a great convo. I felt like I was there kicking it with y’all. I hope you make your way back to South Florida. Black American stories need to be amplified.
Dallas(Oak Cliff) is my hometown and my family is originally from East Texas. Also, I'm a proud graduate of Lincoln Highschool. Eryka Badu, Yella Breezy, Asian Doll and Jonathan Davis are a perfect representation of Black American Dallas.
Everyone but Black Americans can speak English with an accent and it's fine. When we talk with our various accents we get labeled. They do the same with my culture, the Gullah/Geechees. And don't get me started on Juneteenth! The enslaved in Texas knew that they were free but the racist a$$ enslavers didn't want to let them go which is why General Granger had to go down there to enforce the order. It wasn't that the US government was feeling particulary righteous either. The newly reunited US needed to force Texas back into the Union so that Texas didn't try to rejoin Mexico-again.
I'm glad the topic was brought up about Beyonce's accent. I'm a native born Houstonian and those comments made me feel some kind of way when Wendy Williams and other would say that. Beyonce has a Houston Texas accent. A lot of talk like that and it's not a reflection of our intelligence. It's a regional accent and nothing more nothing less.
