Great song.. This bands 1st big hit was I believe named "Hard to Handle" on their 1st album "Shake your Money Maker. The song itself was written in 1968 by Otis Redding who also recorded it in 1969. Thanks for the Reaction.
The Black Crowes, to us, was one of the most soulful rock bands of the early 90's. They were truly masters of their craft. They broke up for some time, but just as the pandemic hit, they reconciled, and now their back to it. Their catalog is so great. They did a cover of an Otis Redding song, Hard To Handle. It became their breakout hit. And everything off of that first album just shined. Check out any of their songs. We will be happy to watch with you.
Remedy is from the Crowes' sophmore album, and it's a banger, but don't miss out on thier first- Shake Your Money Maker. It's got a bit more of a garage sound, but still pure, straight from the blues Southern Rock.
Seen them 3 times in concert, each one an excellent performance, wish I would have seen them more.. So Smooth and Rough at the same time..... Favorite is "She Talks to Angels".. gotta dothatone next.... 🎉
First things first Biz. The catalouge is definitely worth exploring. You picked a banger to start with. Wiser Time is one I highly recommend. Sothern Harmony and Musical Companion and the Amorica albums are worth the deep dive. You won't be disappointed!
Its about damn time you got to the Crowes, Biz. Just f+×king with you, bro. But seriously, we've been "priming"/educating you for the past few years and now that your one of us...its definitely time to get to the good stuff. And speaking about the good stuff, welcome to the wonderful world of the Black Crowes. Their DEFINITELY one of YOUR kinda bands. Yeah they have a lot of the STONES in them. But ive always thought they were like the 90s version of The FACES ( Rod Stewart's band before going solo. Which included a future Rolling Stone, Ron Wood). Biz, you might as well start with the whole 1st album ( Shake Your Money Maker). It had 5 hits off it, and this was when they were competing against all the glam bands 1989/1990.
ATL's own Black Crowes. Biz, Chris Robinson (lead singer) was married to Kate Hudson. "Hard to Handle" and "She Talks to Angels" were hits for them also.
I wouldn’t say I’m a Crowes fan but I remember when that riff came out and I was addicted. Bought the single on cassette and just wore it out. Remember thinking it was something my dad would have listened to and thought it was a cover of a 70’s band. So good!
Great band. They did a tour and album with Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin, well worth checking out. I saw that tour, and one other Black Crowes show. They had quite a few hits, and plenty of swagger.
Ooooh now brother you are onto my favorite band behind Led Zeppelin. They have a ton of great music. Highly suggest album ‘southern harmony musical companion.’ Great music!!!
This album is fire and deep too! This whole album deserves a reaction. Try "Sometimes Salvation", "Thorn In My Pride" and "Wiser Time" one of the best down and dirty rock bands to ever come out of the 90's. Their whole vibe the is what was best about the 70's! The rabbit hole is long with album after album with tons of worth while songs!
Hey Biz, I wonder if you would like to head down a country music rabbit hole. Country music has some wonderful storytelling and not all country is sad. Country music can be silly or funny and yes it can also address serious issues too. Here's an artist I believe you've reacted to at least once or twice before. "Brooks & Dunn - Red Dirt Road (Official Video)" Take care, Biz🤠
The main riff of this tune is copped from Parliament's 'Night of the Thumpasorus Peoples,' which at least is proof these guys have taste. One of my favorite songs of the early 90s, give me this over Nirvana's entire catalog.
Great rock band of the 90s, which I forgot a bit. I have quite a few albums and bootlegs from them that I'm pulling out and looking forward to because they were awesome live❤👍. A real alternative to hype grunge, except of course the ingenious Pearl Jam❤
As a huge fan of the Crowes since the very beginning, I can promise you their catalog is unequivocally worth diving into. Most of the suggestions you’ll get are their really big hits of their first two albums. Those songs are hits for a reason no doubt. They are great songs but (in my opinion) they have way better songs than their hits. I would be more than happy to suggest some if you’d like. I love the Crowes and always will. I’ve seen them many times in many different cities and even met them the summer of ‘21 in Cincinnati.
Don't let their looks fool you. Apparently the drummer was incredibly toxic and contributed greatly to the band breaking up. The singer and the guitar player with long blonde hair are brothers and had their issues, but are now on tour together again. I actually love their style! It was definitely 60s/70s, but updated.
@@dellafenton2417 Yes, I can definitely see that, great reference! I've seen a video of Black Crowe's doing Traffic's 'Low Spark of High Heeled Boys', too, and they were amazing. They have an affinity for 70s stuff, including Southern Rock and the jazzy rock of Traffic, then the blues rock of Humble Pie etc.
The Crowes are a great band.... Heavily influenced by the Stones, and Faces... as you can see and hear in they're style and music etc.... Came out in the late 80's when almost everything out at the time was either English synth pop or American hair bands... First single released off debut album was Jealous Again,.. excellent track.!!
Yeah, they looked like they came outta the 70's. They're definitely worthy. Soul Singing is a cool tune, and probably everything everyone else recommends is worthy. Yeah. Peace
If you every want to find out where Chris Robinson got his particular singing style, @Biz , try listening to some Terry Reid....like Live Life, or Seed of Memory. Terry was Jimmy Page's first choice for lead singer of Led Zeppelin.
Funny you should mention Terry Reid. Actually, the first person Jimmy asked to sing for his new group was Steve Marriott, who declined- urban legend says that Steve's manager, the thug Don Arden threatend Jimmy with "how would you like to play with 10 broken fingers" if he didn't back off from Steve! Next was Terry, then Robert of course (who idolized Marriott and copied his singing with "Whole Lotta Love"). The reason I mention this is that you compare Chris' style to Terry's. in an interview with Rolling Stone, Chris is quoted as saying "anyone can tell I'm a Steve Marriott clone". I don't really see that. This makes me wonder if Terry and Steve had a similar style? Admittedly the only song I have listened to from Terry was "Stay with me Baby" because I wanted to compare him with Steve's version. Now I am curious, so will go back and listen to those you recommend. What do you think? ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-lfnZji61tsA.html Stay With Me Baby Steve Marriott/1989 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-psuz1_nvDYI.html Stay with me Baby Terry Reid 1969 Of course Steve was 42 when he recoreded this and his voice was a bit tired and ragged compare to the young Terry here in his 20's. Still ?
@@cindyfalstrom7231 Hi Cindy: I knew about Steve Marriot and the story you mention, although my understanding is that there wasn't much pursuit or even an actual discussion between Jimmy and Steve - Steve's manager shut it down immediately. Whereas, Jimmy met with Terry and Terry was receptive, except for his commitments. FYI in case you didn't know: Terry was later offered the lead singer position in Deep Purple, and declined. Terry's music is soulful...he was poised to become a mega star. Tell me if this doesn't sound a lot like a precursor to Chris Robinson: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Jwa7KgVuypk.html Or this one: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-gY-y7aBaO8c.html
@@tektoniks_architects Wow, thank you for the links.I liked both of them. First, l checked, and find I misspoke. What Chris said in the interview was he was a Steve Marriott rip off (not clone, sorry). Irregardless, you are correct. Chris sounds very much like Terry , more than he ever would sound like Steve. Terry was obviously a large talent. It's too bad that he isn't better known. I wonder if he would have fit in with Deep Purple. As for Steve, I think you are right that the offer didn't go far. All I know is what I have read in books, articles and interviews. Of course that was over 50 yrs ago and most of those concerned are now dead, so I guess Jimmy is the only one who would know. All I have ever heard from Steve was him saying Jimmy offered and he said "no thank you". I'm also skeptical of the Don Arden story, though he was indeed a thug. However I did read an interesting quote from Tony Iommi (Black Sabbath), who siad "You know, Steve Marriott was the first choice to be Black Sabbath's vocalist. I tried everything to get him to agree, but he had other plans. He was Jimmy Page's first choice too. He tried as hard as I did. I had a conversation with Page about that once, about what might have been No skin off Ozzy or Robert Plant, both were great in their ways, but Marriott was it. Greatest singer ever.Page and I agreed, we would have killed to have him " unquote. I think that both Steve and Terry were talented, charismatic performers. I can't speak for Terry, but I don't Steve think would have lasted in Zeppelin. He always went his own way, even when it wasn't in his best interests. It's been nice chatting with you. I am going to dive deeper into Terry Reids music. ✌
Nice chatting with you too! Terry's album "River" is amazing. There is lots of video of Terry online, both young and older. By all accounts, a lovely person. I'm not certain how long either Terry or Steve would have lasted in Led Zeppelin, and of course we live the results as it turned out, but it would have been interesting to see. Be well! Ernie
My buddy Rambo (yeah I didn't say your real name lol) said to me when we first saw this video "That MFer has more soul than any white man I've ever seen". I think he may have been right
There are only 2 post 90's bands that I have liked well enough to purchase their CD. Rival Sons and Black Crowes. I think the reason is that both these bands remind me of old fashioned rock from the 70's. Chris Robinson is very talented but WAY too hyper in his presentation for my taste. In fact, I had to close my eyes during this video -lol! Yes, he is kind of like Jagger, but he reminds me more of early Rod Stewart, not with his voice, but with his movements, except way exaggerated. I read an interview in Rolling Stone years ago where Chris said something to to effect that he hated being compared to Rod as "Anyone can see I'm a Steve Marriott rip off. He's the man" Chris is not very Humble either 😆 My favorite is their version of "Hard to Handle", a real rocker. Please add Rival Sons to your list. They are a really kick a** rock band still performing. The drummer and guitarist are fire, but the singer has a very powerful voice with lots of soul. I would start with "Open My Eyes". I think you would like them.
