Its great to see the kids Putting in work as a family. This should be instilled into all kids. Teach them to work and they will never go hungry. Great job sir.

Parenting, it is a season of much joy even in the moments that don't feel that joyful. Im so blonde! We used to buy half tons of firewood and I always assumed it was split by hand after being cut by a chain saw..

Great to see your kids working. Just last week I bought a 50 ton Black Diamond Log Splitter with a lifting table, great for the really big logs. It also acts as a table so you don't have to keep picking up the partially split pieces. I will put a video on RU-vid soon.

That was great.. The looks on the faces of your two youngest was priceless.... But they hung in there.. Hopefully they got an icecream or a treat afterwards..... Good video.

That beast will split any wood you have. We use one that is similar on green black oak and it rips right through no problem.

Noticed this video is from 5 years ago, I'm curious if the machine is still running and what you think of it.

Yes, this video is from 5 years ago, but the machine is still running strong! I'll give you an update on its performance in a future video.

Dude that thing's a beast. You should probably build like 2 trays on each side (out of wood) so the bigger pieces (that need to be split again) won't fall on the ground. It'll save you some backache along the way.

When you were using a maul to split wood for your main heat. I told myself No Way. Getting that splitter is the best money spent.

How you all like the Black Diamond log splitter ? I just picked up the same one last night. Can't wait to put it to work. Anything I should watch for ?

Thats a nice spliter but all of those companies lie when it comes to the the tonnage. The way you figure force on a hydraulic cylinder is the surface area of the piston × pump pressure . Almost all consumer grade spliters run 2500 psi or less. Some run 2250 psi. 1. To find area. Pie X R squared. 2.5x2.5=6.25 3.14x 6.25= 19.625 2. Multiple 19.625 square inches by the pressure 2500 psi. 49,062.5 3.Dived by 2000 lbs in a ton gives you 24.53125 tons. The manufacturers dont like going above 2500 psi because or pump life and potential hose failure.

Trying to cross cut a log is a good way to destroy your wood splitter. I would not do that too often if I were you.

After adding a Swisher 4 way wedge to my Troy Bilt 27 ton splitter, I will NEVER go back to using a single wedge ever again, there is THAT much difference
@Jason-wc3fh
@Jason-wc3fh 5 лет назад
Anybody notice any significant metal on metal wear/galling from the side to side friction of the wedge plate to the inner sides of the beam? You have to look down close and on an angle to see around the curve on the inside. I don't have a black diamond, but an exact replica of the same design in this video. I've only used mine for 3 hours since new and I believe some of the largest twisted pieces I split made the wedge exert some damaging sideways loads that did major wear on the side rails... One particular side of it dug more then 50% into the side... The metal is only about 1/4" thick at the most, this really gives me hardly any wiggle room for much of any longevity with this design. It's completely ridiculous that mine has this major flaw and nobody else seems to have it.

Had a Boss splitter that did that. Gaulling on the beam. The beam was bent- warped.They were good about returning it. Got a Brave splitter and keep the beam greased.

Why don't you stand it up , most have a pin you pull and stand it up, not all. Then get a stump one person sets on stump and operates and other people on ether side of the splitter feed you wood and stack split wood.

Total rank amateurish dangerous actions by father, endangering both his wife and kids. Total foolishness! The machine is not a toy!

I agree. Watching this video, I wondered if anyone had been hurt yet, or if the machine had been destroyed. This is not a toy.

An arborist (tree cutter & remover) down the street delivers all the wood I want to my driveway for free. These are rounds (tree sections) about 1' long because he carries each to his truck by hand, and a green 1' round weighs a lot. So I only have to saw a few branches to fit my stove. He says that it used to be a lot of people wanted this wood for their stoves, but now few do, because of No Burn Days (people claiming they can't tolerate smoke and the gov't passing new laws to protect them). Why does the arborist give me free wood & free delivery? Because when he cuts down a tree he has to spend an hour driving to the county dump & back, and pay a big dump fees. He brings me mostly hardwoods, & no palm. Re house sizes: I know a man who bought a 4,250 sq ft house and burns FIFTEEN cords of wood per winter to heat it! He probably paid $Thousands just to buy a big enough woodshed. Americans are taught that bigger is better, but my wife, son, & I have plenty of room in our 1,000 sq ft house. It has 3 bdrms, 1 bath. You don't need a huge house. Americans sure do need more exercise, and splitting wood with a big heavy maul is a great way to get it, and also to build your upper body muscles. For every man with smoke coming out of his chimney and a gas/elec. splitter & chain saw in his garage, there is a fat stomach. And sadly often an early death from heart disease. The man with the machines also has an emptier wallet from buying, fueling, and repairing those complex machines, and deafer ears from all the NOISE! There is a great satisfaction from giving a round of wood a tremendous hit with a maul, or a sledge hammer against steel a wedge for tougher wood. Try it, & you'll never go back to the "modern" way! Maybe you'll think about all this before you buy a sit-in tractor mower for your front lawn, or another chain saw to replace your broken one. Modern man is not doing himself any favors with all those home machines. - JH

feel better you got your self righteous rant off your chest?

Do you call every opinion a "rant," or just those you disagree with? People SHOULD speak out about important matters such as over-consumption and over-reliance on machines.

When your body breaks down you will wish you had used a wood splitter. Have you ever heard of arthritis? Shoulders will get that problem and then you have to eat pain pills. So why torture yourself when you have a easier way to do things.

Keep her and the kid away from the machine. It looks like they don't have no ideas of what that machine is for. The kid should keep a distance

@@MidnightMixx Would you hand a loaded gun to someone that has never touched a gun before? Getting them involved is great, but man, woman, or child, there are safety issues that need to be addressed. The wife acts like she's afraid to get her hands dirty and she's doing very unsafe things with her child standing too close.

Someone in your family is going to get hurt. To many hands in the operation. Slow down and take that thing seriously.
