The Black House is a stunning modern residence designed for a young couple near Buenos Aires, Argentina. Inspired by their previous project, "The Waterfall House", the architects were given creative freedom to craft a unique living space.
The long, narrow lot presented both opportunities and challenges. The best views of the lake were at the back, but the best sun orientation was at the front. To maximize natural light throughout the house, the architects divided the social areas. The kitchen and dining area sit on one side, while the living room enjoys a closer connection to the lake and boasts a lower floor level for unobstructed views. A shallow pool separates these areas, reflecting indirect sunlight deep into the home.
A glass bridge connects the social areas, offering a dramatic walkway with water flowing beneath. The upper floor follows a similar layout, with bedrooms for future children situated in the front and the master suite positioned at the back. This cantilevered master bedroom appears to float over the lake, maximizing the breathtaking vista.
The home's black exterior stands in stark contrast to the pure white interior, creating a striking and memorable aesthetic. This dramatic play on light and dark gives the house its name, The Black House.
