I'll never understand why people claim the Black Keys "sold out" and "went mainstream". This kind of music isn't mainstream. This isn't pop or mainstream at all. This may not be the blues the Black Keys started with, but it sure as hell is still Rock 'n Roll.
I never heard anybody say they were sellouts tho...and i also don't get Why people think they became mainstream. Bcuz they're not really( i wish they were).
GewoonRood I've read RU-vid comments under songs from El Camino by people who think that The Keys sold out and made mainstream music, just because it sounded less gritty like their early stuff. But this stuff they're doing now? It's still rock 'n roll, and it's still good
It's their band they can change just about anything they want to about it. If that involves selling out then guess what, THEY CAN. If you're not here to enjoy the music I think everyone else who is can agree you need to fuck off.

I agree 💯👍 these guys rock I just recently discovered them and im impressed and thier latest album just dropped a month ago that's how I stumbled across them I've been listening to them all the time now gives me good vibes for sure

I have never listened to the Black Keys until this evening. I turn fifty-five this Spring, so I think that they are pretty groovy. I suppose that my world has been weird, I haven't had a haircut since February of 2020, it's sorta long and I'm sporting the Big Lebowski look.
I’m around your age and saw them play live in Australia about 7 years ago.. a couple of rockin songs but the rest had a led zeppelin type vibe that had me wishing I was at home smoking a joint lol
This observation is probably off-subject, but... I'm always amazed at how Americans' bands' audiences are more respectful and into the music than our own country's fans.
Every time I listen to Gold on the ceiling I think about my family's annual trip to Yellowstone. It's always been a tradition to play the same playlist on the road trip there, and once we get driving through Idaho, we have to start it off with Gold on the ceiling. For the past three years, I haven't been able to keep that tradition with the people I started it with due to a few things that have happened, but I still keep this song on my playlist and play it the second we drive into Idaho.

I remember being 7, this song would play on repeat for hours. Got me annoyed. I remember setting up my papas drums for a concert, this song playing along the speakers as we walked in, put the suitcases in and stuff. 12 years later, here i am listening to lonely boy, followed by this. I never realized how quality this type of rock is. So calm, but the bass screams emotions. I love this song, it keeps me going
Thanks for uploading. Glad I didn’t have to pay for it. I’ll be a voice of reason here, these sound like B-Sides cut from his last few albums. I’d like to see him step out and get into scoring films or maybe even making films. Disruption of pattern is a great thing for artists.
This song is always so epic. It feels like it could be a powerful scene in a movie where a someone is-doing illegal stuff, or could be in Queen pins. Just the perfect song to get me motivated for anything. Tell me not.
I have casually listened to this song for years, listened to it again today, now knowing the title and finally figured out that the words that I had been trying to figure out for years, that I had always heard as home, homicible, are actually gold on the ceiling. This is a momentuous occasion.
I've been playing this song for four years now. I play Black Keys when I want my four year old son to fall asleep. This has been his stroller music since he was born.

Today I learnt that Chrissie Hynde is 71yrs of age and that, Gold On The Ceiling was released 11yrs ago. Compared to Chrissie Hynde, I always thought of The Black Keys as a couple of young uns. I feel so fuckin old now.
Yeah probably. Too bad indie-rock is mostly overvalued, tepid, soulless, meandering drivel. Most of the bands classified as indie rock don't even rock! They are more concerned with their clothes, gimmicks and attempting to look mysterious. Give me The Who, The Stooges, MC5, Ramones, Clash, Nirvana ANY DAY OF THE WEEK. None of the indie-rock bands even come close. They are mostly pretenders.

Don't forget to check their early albums, like Rubber Factory, Magic Potion and Thickfreakness ! They are too underrated, a lot of people know the black keys only with their most famous hits and i think it's sad

Hotel California, under the bridge, etc) but unlike much of the modern rap and pop rock has a way about concealing these true meanings in metaphors and the poetry of the song. Kids can listen to these rock anthems without even realizing what the song is about, unlike most of the vulgar rap out there today. Which is very direct about "fucking bitches" and drug use
This song is actually very sexual . My perception ( could be wrong ) is that it is about groupies , willing to do ANYTHING to meet the band ... 4 at the door ... Got absolutely nothing to do with RnB... RnB is soul music, Motown... that's bluesy indie rock'n'roll. Normally I'm ain't picky with the labels but that is so not RnB xD I've been working in this industry for over 15 years btw
