Stars: George Zucco, Wanda McKay, Noel Madison Director: Sam Newfield A group of strangers are brought together in an old, dark house and must contend with two murders and $50,000 in stolen money!
I love George Zucco in 'The Black Raven' - he's so calm, cool, and collected. It turns out even better when you realize in the end that he's actually the "Good Guy" in this one.
I am trying to read the reviews after watching the movie. Many get carried away with their movie critic ambitions that were never realized. Very sweet actually. Bravo to them for persevering.
I love George Zucco in this movie ! He usually plays the villains in his movies, but here. he's suave . sophisticated and debonair ! I thoroughly enjoyed this movie.
Notice the WW2 mileage ration stickers on the cars’ windshields? “A” is for private citizens, B for businesses, C for special professions, doctors, embalmers, military, clergy, etc. Then there were stickers for motorcycles-M, truck drivers-T, and high mileage like delivery vehicles and salesmen-X. Along with the stickers people were issued ration stamps that they surrendered upon purchase. The national speed limit was 35 mph. Ouch!
@@101Volts I was browsing through some old car owner’s manuals and realized how good we have it today. Tires had to be replaced every 12,000 miles, oil changed every 1,000. You’re right about the speed - in addition to what you said those cars did not have crumple zones to reduce the severity of the impact. Aren’t cars today more efficient at 55mph than 35mph? I’ll have to look that up.
I purchased a book entitled: "Hollywood's Maddest Doctors". It's actually a biography of George Zucco as well as Lionel Atwill and Colin Clive. It's good to see that Zucco is in good company. Reading about his life is just as entertaining as enjoyable as watching him perform.
I love these old B movies. They provide as much great entertainment as A movies. Loved the storm too. Also, The Black Raven is my favorite guilty pleasure.
The exchange at the 23:25 mark, between Byron Foulger and Whitfield is priceless. "there's someone trying to break into my room" Foulger tells fellow lodger Whitfield. He replies: "a man or a woman"? Foulger; "why a man a suppose, why would a woman want to break into my room"? Whitfield; "I suppose you're right".
+Emmette Craft - Zucco was underused and underrated. I love him as star in some other poverty row studio films such as "Mad Monster," Dead Men Walk," "The Flying Serpent." He was also a wonderful character actor, most notably, in my opinion, as Professor Moriarty in "The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes."
you right I forgot Bartender ! He was so many westerns it will make you head spin!He was going to play the monster in Frankienstin but for some reason it went Karlof!
Glenn Strange also played the Frankenstein monster in House of Frankenstein, House of Dracula and Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein. Nice to see him in this.
Movies of this era almost always worked in a young couple in love, no matter how unnecessary it was to the plot. It's remarkable how bland the actors and their characters usually were. But then, this was an era when the studios tried making films that appealed to as broad an audience as possible. Something for everybody.
Thank you so much ,may you have some yummy sauce This time on me ,a year ago or so I saw part of this grand story, I picture, I didn't get to finish it I have downloaded it, and can't wait to finish or should I say watch the whole thing again thank you for what you have done, putting these great movies here to watch 😊
Not sure who the good gus are and who the bad guys are. $50,000 in 1943 would be worth about &714,000 today dollars. So that was a tidy sum back in 1943.
I had this on VHS for years. George Zucco is great in anything like Lugosi. I don'tthink he gets the notice he deserves. this is good one. my fav is Dr Renault's Secret.
Thanks for another great feature upload. I like the way in some of these they show introduce you to the actors at the start, anyone know what years or what studious did this?
Carpentersdaughter2 get yourself a Google chromecast cost about £30 then you can cast them direct to your tv from your smartphone or tablet, that's what I do.
. . . "the smell of garlic and sweat" . . . hmmm. Interesting reference. Guess the Black Raven was in the red. If you don't really look, you don't notice that the old place is a bit tattered, 50k could fix it up nicely with change to spare.
Poor Glenn Strange. First, he has to park cars in the rain and some years later he has to dress up as some kind of "monster." Consider yourself lucky! BTW one of the better PRC releases and if that isn't damning with faint praise, I'm not sure what is.
Think AgainThere are white ravens and piebald ravens, genetic mutations. There is also the White Necked Raven and the Brown Necked Raven, separate species. The common raven, Corvus corax, is sometimes so glossy black that it takes on purpilish or bluish hues and is familiarly pointed out in a flock as "the blue ( or purple) raven."
Think Again You asked, I answered, signed, Mr. Obnoxious Knowitall Truly though, ravens are basically black. I understood the humor in your comment and was mostly yankin your chain.
La musique du générique a été utilisé pour plusieurs séries b notamment le chasseur de fantômes mais aussi pour le film l homme singe encore avec bela.
