Vika Bull is the ‘firecracker’ and you’ve got listen to her singing ‘Never Let Me Go’, with the Black Sorrows, ( I think I prefer the studio version.) and also ‘Gimme Shelter’ with Tim Rogers on RocKwiz. She blows the roof off.

The version of Gimme Shelter is one helluva classic. Vika just kills it. Watch Tex Perkins stand back and just admire her. He knows she is killing it!

Donna, it's so hard to pick just one song with Vika and Linda killing it with the backing vocals, or even when the lead vocals are more evenly shared. As you know, Vika and Linda are stunning artists in their own right.

So glad you finally featured the Black Sorrows 😊 This was a pretty subdued performance; lead singer/songwriter Joe Camilleri is usually a ball of energy on stage but perhaps he needs to feed off a live audience. He's 75 and still touring today. The Black Sorrows had a string of sophisticated hit songs in the 80s & 90s. Backing singers Vika & Linda Bull are successful artists in their own right.

I was a bit worried, as it was not the best performance of the track by any means, but The fact that you still really liked it, I guess speaks volumes for just how good it is. Joe Camilleri was not in top form here and the horns were sadly lacking, still Vika (said Vicka) and Linda pulled it up, as they do. Loved this, thank you as always. ❤

I recently saw Vika and Linda at a show - who then went on to sing back up for Paul Kelly later that night - of all the artists who were there these were my favourite performances of the event. They have amazing energy that could be appreciated from the back of the hill barely seeing the stage or right up at the fence. They were certainly good in this video but it doesn't really do them or The Black Sorrows justice - just a glimpse of what they can do.

Vikka and her sister Lynda also sing on my favourite music show rockwiz, I reckon you guys would love that show, you can look for them on the SBS channel. Jo Cameleri used to front a band called Jo Jo Zep and the falcons, who had big hits here with Hit and run, shape I'm in and some not big hits but good songs, All I wanna do, open hearted, puppet on a string (not the one we used to have to sing in primary school 😂) and so young. My friend Sandy and I met him one day when we were wagging school 😅🤭, quite a long story that one (nothing sordid that is), but I got free tickets to their concert. 🤣👌💕

A classy band oozing with talent. Joe Camilleri wrote some fantastic tunes, and enjoyed success in a number of his own acts as well as guesting on other peoples’ albums. He played saxophone on Cold Chisel’s debut album, as an example (although I’m not 100% sure which track(s) as both he and Wilbur Wilde got sax credits in the album liner notes and there weren’t many songs on the album that featured sax).

Brilliant.

Australia's ethnic melting pot is coming through again Joe Camilleri is of Maltese extraction. Vika and Linda Bull have an Aussie father and a Tongan mother. They were taught to sing by their mother and sang in church when young. The South Pacific Islander peoples have amazing harmonic ability. Hear Vika let loose with a revved up performance in, 'Never Let Me Go,' ( in a film clip starting with a motor-bike ride).

Yes, Fawlty Towers! I'm not Aussie, but there are more modern V8 utes that are very nice cars. I'd agree that there are things about Ozzie music that defy any definition and set it apart from anything else you've ever heard. And I guess I don't understand how music has anything to do with what the singer looks like. You are listening more than you are looking if you're doing it right.

I feel sorry for you guys - not having these Aussie bands as part of your cultural memory. Memories going pub to pub to catch different bands. Hearing them on the radio while at work. Visiting friends when a muso or two would drop in and an unplanned jam develops with the noise going up as the wine went down. And of course for every famous great band, there were always ten or a hundred that never got the gigs, never were known beyond friends and other musos. And of course you guys are seeing only the tip of the iceberg. So many great bands, so many hits you haven't heard. For example yesterday's bonus had a guitarist from Daddy Cool and I'm not sure if you have done any of their Dee-wop/rock style in which the 50's meets the 70's. They are most famous for their hit Eagle Rock which inspired Elton John to write Crocodile Rock, but I prefer their song called Daddy Cool. You have to listen to Marcia Hines. Too many others to list here.

A big thank you for your Aussie weeks. I'm in full nostalgia mode. I'm afraid I don't particularly like the Rock Arena videos. It's good that they are available but I find them rather anaemic. Yes, they were live but it's all toned down for Aunty ABC; everyone on their best behaviour. There are better live versions available: e.g. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-xxmxIUgo3QU.html But I think the "Official Video" releases have a better quality and they do come close to capturing the spirit of a Black Sorrows show. The ones of "Chained to the Wheel" and of "Never Let Me Go" convey some of the joy of the band when performing. And believe me, their live shows were fun. Chained to the Wheel: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-rYWyj9pF2HI.html Never Let Me Go: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-VLQmwMhj4GA.html If you thought Vika and Linda were good in this video then wait until you watch them when they are more themselves - so to speak.

Got to sing with Vika & Linda at Carols By Candlelight - I was in the choir. Thoroughgoing professionals, and lovely to work with.
