Great footage, I'm not really a fan of disguised engines but it's still good to see heritage locos on the mainline instead of pootling at 25mph on a preserved railway. Pity it failed later. I would have liked startup footage. For a big fast engine the Deltics had the puniest horn.
It was my last of the 22, seen on an outing to Haymarket shed... This was quite a sensation, seeing the number and nameplate, but knowing the demise in the 80s.
Bad luck, it was the first I saw although this is not the original it's nice to see a wolf in sheep's clothing. I remember seeing them all about '70 to '71 although memory is a little hazy now. Even then they were not well kept and always filthy. Nice to see one in resplendent condition. 👍
One of the original Black Watch nameplates was bought by a work collegue back in 1982. He paid around £1000 for it and was a bit worried that he had wasted his money at the time.
