The corpse copying thing could be used to mess with people. Someone murdered your Ghoul? Copy their copse visage and then come after them, psychological warfare. Want to play the guy who hunts murders? Copy his victims and come after him. It has some really cool implications/applications.

I'm keen on running a game where everyone is a diffrent "Hecata". The basic idea is that their "club house" is destroyed by the Inquisition and they escape , insert convoluted coming of age ritual that had the players buried. They make it to a Camarilla city and a game of Stranger in a strange land happens.

The book makes it clear that that's a really fun way to play with this clan. Especially if all the players want to mess with ghosts and stuff like that!

I'd be curious to know how this story would unfold! Since the Cammies and the original Giovanni have the Promise that states the Necros non-involvement in the Jihad, yata yata, the dynamics between the characters should be interesting. I do feel though that the Hecata are meant to be played as a coterie of their own, it's hard to place them (or more specifically, the Giovanni originals) in the middle of a Camarilla-Anarch conflict (the Promise is still valid) which makes them strangers in the truest sense of the word. The Devil Kindred are still feared and despised by many, so a Hecata character will most probably have a hard time getting along with vamps of other clans in a coterie but that would make the game even more interesting.

Out of all the changes made by v5, i think this is the one that i like the most. It really enriches the setting and lore much more from what it was with the Giovanni.

The Cappadocians / Harbingers have been my favourite bloodline and second favourite clan, I absolutely love necromancy in the older editions and I was wary of the changes being made to them for V5 but I have to admit I’m loving what I’m hearing so far. They really reflected the idea that the Hecata are made up of all these varied groups of vampires mashed together, I would have been happy with just letting players swap out Discipline powers but in addition to that there are the Loresheets which are really cool and unique abilities for each different family of the Hecata. Overall I’m not a fan of V5 homogenizing a lot of the clans, but a changeup with the Giovanni was very much needed and what they’ve done seems really cool. They brought all the necromancer vampires together while keeping the diversity that these different groups have had throughout the game’s history. I am absolutely getting the Blood Gods book as soon as it comes out

i feel i would definately want to try to play out some kind of good hearted necromancer. i mean yeah the lazuris ritual is pretty dark, being that you're taking a random spirit and putting it back into a body. but i love the idea of having a Hecata vampire who was in their mortal life one of those dime a dozen gypsies, with a little back alley fortune telling shop doing tarot car deading and palm readings, back room seances, and selling trinkets and things. but in reality some of the rituals were real and actually worked, this got the attention of the Hecata and made them a target for the Embrace. certainly an idea

I'm definitely hoping to make a Cappadocian/Harbinger of Skulls bloodline character because I have liked that clan since first playing VtM: Redemption. I love the idea of being a vampire that can raise an undead horde; it combines two of my greatest loves. I was never really into the Giovanni's more spirit-centric brand of necromancy, though that is probably the more "realistic" variant, because as you mentioned necromancy did originally mean divination through communing with spirits of the dead. But I've always liked the more fantastical version of raising undead servants via magic. I suppose with these new ceremonies, any bloodline could do that regardless, but I just simply have a fondness for the Cappadocian/Harbingers. The Samedi seem really interesting to me too because they get Obfuscate, which is great for stealthy characters, another type that I tend to make a lot of. Really the only bloodlines that I don't necessarily care for are the Giovanni and the Duncern (?). I could easily see myself playing as any of the others though.
@dton1er
@dton1er 4 года назад
You know funnily enough it was the Giovanni who brought in the necromantic techniques to animate the dead along with the spirit focused necromancy atleast from v20 cannon. The cappas necromancy seemed to focus on the aspect of death and how to control its effects such as rapid decay of corpses to being able to restore an imatation of life to another vampire a boon or a curse to some.
@michaelandreyev5029
@michaelandreyev5029 4 года назад
The concept of the Cappadocians was that they wielded a more bodily black art, so to say, being interested in physical manifestations of death while the Giovanni cared more about the spiritual side of the black art. The good thing about the new edition is that Necromancy and it's rituals involve both physical and spiritual magic, so you can affect the bodies of the living and the dead, as well as interact with the spiriti (although the requirements and the stains while doing so are now greater than they used to be, at least as I understood from the manuscript)

@@michaelandreyev5029 Been a bit since I last looked at the Giovanni clan book but I remember it being pretty insightful though as I said I was working of off V20 (dark age specifically) for my memory in which it makes mention that the Giovanni conceived the path of ash, bone and sepulcher all paths that involving spirits in one form or other. This confusion is probably just classic source material retconning by newer editions but I mean in the end it's storyteller preference on what is real and false especially in the WOD where history is determined by the winners.

I agree that the function of linking Oblivion ceremonies most likely is intended to prevent Lasombra characters from commanding the dead (at least without good justification) & Hecata characters from manipulating shadow. I *adore* the entirity of Cults of the Blood Gods. And I can't wait to one day use the childe-of-a-Harbinger, Giovanni descendent I rolled up with these. I also do like how the book explicitly gives the option to treat prior Loresheets like "Descendent of Helena" as if they were bloodlines, and PCs can opt into multiple loresheets so long as one of them is a bloodline & both make sense.

Corpse copying could be used for two fold reasons. 1) Replacing a corpse you murdered OR you found to see who comes to check. Then ambush the person as that figure. Or you turn into a corpse of someone that an enemy is close to or cares about. OR a corpse of someone that a person murdered just to prove you know they are dead to blackmail someone.

VtM is just the best. I'm in my 30s and still haven't played a TTRPG, but if I ever do, I'd want it to be VtM. Great video, Josh, and that mustache is looking perky today. :D As far as Hecata bloodlines I would want to play as...either Cappadocian or Nagaraja. Cappadocians are interesting since they've been in hiding for so long and are the original Kindred necromancers of a sort. Nagaraja would be very interesting if you tried to play someone trying to be moral by only killing the worst people, and as the food sources dwindle over time, or are unavailable, where do you move "the line" of what constitutes a bad person for you to justify your kills? So most nights it's murderers and rapists, and somewhere over time it becomes people who simply angered you over something petty or who have different political beliefs, etc. It's that slow dwindling of trying to do the right thing and eventually realizing the monster you've become, continuing to kill and kinda hoping in your subconscious that someone will come along and destroy you...because now YOU are the worst kind of person that you would have gladly consumed so many nights ago.

"You can do what you do best as a Dunsirn, and that is bleed people dry," and then eat what's left. I don't think I'd play one of those cannibals. They didn't include the Maeghar or Kiasyd, sadface. Out of those options I would build either a Harbinger or Samedi. They're both very interesting clans. ^_^ Speaking of the Samedi... This is an excerpt from V20 - Lore of the Bloodlines. It's the 1st character concept listed for the Samedi. "Body Double You make looking like a dead guy work for you. Sometimes, a dead body is needed to convince the authorities that someone is dead. You provide that body - your own - for a fee. A work night usually means a ride to the morgue or the funeral home (it helps to have someone there on your payroll). You might slip out the back or you might pay them off at the end of the night. Occasionally, you have to dig up a grave and climb inside when someone starts snooping around a Kindred playing much younger and more alive than they really are. The important thing is that the paperwork says there’s a body where the body is supposed to be. If some hunter digs up the grave in a few years, it’s not your problem. Unless they want to renegotiate at the end of the night."

Copying the looks of a corpse has a whole lot of uses. A whole lot. It is very interesting to see people new to the VtM series, and how intrigued they are about the bloodlines mentioned in v5. It makes me feel old, that almost none of the storyline information is "new" to me, just slight twists and variations of the old stuff. I love the lore and the name of the harbingers of skulls, I was going to make one when I get the book, but after what you said about the powers of lamia I really don't know, biting people to disease them and make them suffer and paralyze them with your look is exactly my thing but I want to look like corpse and have the mask of the harbingers, can you inherit two bloodlines? like when you die they make ritual and put blood of both bloodlines inside you, you get all the curses and the powers? I mean harbingers and lamia are both cappadocians in orgin so you can mix their blood easily right? maybe we should call the mix "the harbingers of death" because that next level creepy necromancer, as for the disciplines, can you learn the lasombra oblivion as well as the hecata oblivion by getting lasombra to teach you? I just can't figure which one is best between lamia and harbingers really, they are the best two.

I checked out the two previews as well and I quite like the Family Reunion thing although I had a few WTF moments while reading it. While bringing the bloodlines together seems logical at first glance, the need for that didn't seem all too convincing given the hatered and antagonism between the Caps and the Giovanni in the previous editions. Ok, the turmoil with the wraiths happened, Augustus is gone (dead but not really dead), the second inquisition took out a lot of the Giovanni (Although the V5 Camarilla sourcebook mentions Venice as one of the safest cities in the region, which is a bit weird), but is it really enough for such a massive "merger". The unique clan banes have been replaced by a single one which totally changes the game for Samedi and the Cappadocian-related bloodlines (it's sort of implied that you can look like a corpse but you don't have to, at least as I understood it), I think its a double edged sword for the players who want to create non-Giovanni chatacters - the game will be the same for all of them, you'll have to look for drama elsewhere (compare this to the Nosferatu bane which defines the game for this clan no matter what kind of character you create). Also the structure of the bloodlines is weird - the Milliners, Duncirn, Putanesca are all part of the grand Giovanni family but now they are listed as separate bloodlines which may be confusing for some players. Necromancy and Ceremonies are ok and although there are no paths now, they seemed alright in terms of variety. The only thing to keep in mind is that the requirements are draconian now, which makes Necromancy the mist complicated kind of magic for the player (it involves stains, human sacrifice for high level ceremonies, the discipline only works in dark places, etc.). In general the system seems more simple in structure but harder to master in the game world which is rather cool. I liked the Giovanni before and their clanbook is the best in VTM, so I'm waiting to see the final version of the rules. They were a very unuque clan and playing them felt kind of exclusive since not so many people seemed to like them or choose them. V5 feels like it's trying to bring the Clan of Death closer to the masses but with the slight inconsistency in the lore, one clan bane for All bloodlines and Necromancy being part of Oblivion (hi, Lasombra), they've lost a lot of the former version's original appeal. Although I'm playing a V5 chronicle now, what the Necromancers are made to become in V5 really makes me want to check out V20.
