@@RishabJainK Wow, videos on literature reviews would be great! Since your last message last week, I've found around 50 more research papers that fit my criteria. I've been storing them in a Google Doc, but am aware that will not be sustainable as the literature accumulates. When I have the chance, I will move them to either an Excell or Notion page, where it is a lot easier to see the key takeaways of a paper at a glance. As I've read more about this topic, I've found the neurological effects of endocrine-disrupting chemicals very interesting, as they have the potential to impact sexual organization and activation of the human brain through mimicking reproductive hormones. The more papers I read, the more interesting theories of this field I'm exposed to!
Hey Rishab, can you make a video specifically on strategies regarding to speaking with ISEF judges? Like strategies you employed to ensuring that you would be able to answer all of their questions in an efficient manner. I know that you were very knowledgeable in the field that you did your project on but you really can’t ever predict what a judge is going to ask you.
We try to go over general strategies in this video. For specific things, we do have the course which covers step by step what to do. However, I may make another ISEF video in around 6 months.
When you say you are usually working 6-8 hours per day on a project, what exactly do you mean? In other words, what does “working on a project” entail? I understand that you first need to come up with an idea by learning about a field and performing a literature review but once you have done that, how do you actually work on a project?

Hi Rishab, is it more impressive to conduct research and obtain publications independently, or to perform well in prestigious competitions such as ISEF?
I'm not Rishab, but as a current PhD student I can tell you that obtaining peer-reviewed publications independently is insanely difficult/borderline impossible as a high school student, since it requires you to do research at the cutting edge of your field. As a graduate student or a very talented undergrad, you have years to focus on the specific subject area and, often more importantly, your professor (i.e. PI) to guide you with that by contributing their many years of experience. On the other hand, ISEF is a much more even playing field where even many winners do not publish. Bottom line - publications are more impressive, but go for ISEF.

This is covered in depth in the science competitions course with templates, etc. However, I used 48x48 inches at ISEF in 2022 and 2023. Shriya used a similar size. I used 36x48 inches at my local fairs.

@@arch3866 yeah u can typically change them and u typically have to as there are differing requirements across competitions. for me, my school science fair posterboard is different than my regional one and my regional is a lot different than my national one and then i create a whole new one for isef since the requirements r different

@@arch3866 im only in 9th grade and ive just qualified for isef so i dont know much ab that process so keep that in mind before you read what i say, but i competed nationally in grade 8 and was invited to an international symposium, and honestly, spend a lot of time picking a very well thought out and high potential idea. dont jump into doing intensive research/iteration before u have an amazing idea. i didnt do great in grade 8 bcs i was so into researching everything and getting all the info i could have ever had lmao and i think thats the only reason i was even invited to internationals, but i couldve saved sm time and done something more impactful and therefore had more success if i developed my idea better, and thats what i did this year, and why ive had a lot more success, despite me moving up to a harder age range (bottom of the highschool division!!) so yeah just work really hard on developing ur idea and project, presenting and creating ur poster board can come next. good luck!
Students should please remember that, even as Rishab got into three of his top choices, doing research like this is not the key to getting into a university like MIT. Sometimes it can even be a point against the applicant. It is much more important to be interesting than to be doing what the student thinks will make their application "look better". Or, worse still, doing what the parents think will make the application look better. There is little expectation that the "research" done by high school students will be the same as what the students will do as undergraduates, graduate students, or past that. And the few students who do excel in research in high school have to make sure they remain extremely humble, because arrogance about it is the easiest way to get rejected. No admissions officer [at MIT; Harvard may be different] wants to add overtly arrogant students to the campus. It's just not worth it.
This comment is completely useless because it goes against everything I preach on this RU-vid channel. We don't do research for the sake of getting into universities. We do research because we love it - it's our passion. As such, we don't care if it "can even be a point against the applicant" because our goal of doing the research wasn't just to get into colleges. This isn't to make anyone's applications look better. I don't know who you are, but if you go to ISEF and see the GIANT hall with thousands of student posters, your mind will be blown. You'll realize this isn't some game to get into college. It's a community of driven high schoolers that are going to change the world through our work one day. Getting in to colleges is a byproduct of our hard work in science research. Students should do activities that they LOVE and that they themselves are interested in.
@@RishabJainK I have a BS and PhD from one of the three universities you decided between. I want you all to change the world. For almost all of the students in the ISEF community, the change will happen in different ways that "our work" connected to that research. And while many are doing this because "it's our passion", we both also know the cultural pressures that many students from backgrounds like you two face. When the student looks at the parent whose words say, "Do what you want, you don't have to be a doctor", but their face says the opposite. Sometimes students need support when they feel they're letting their parents down. Yes, at the giant hall, their enthusiasm may shine. But in their own room, it may be a different situation.
This is quite literally a racist comment. You just racially profiled two students you know nothing about. I suggest you rethink your position on this completely.
@@RishabJainK It's a culturalist comment, rather than a racist one. I also described a situation I have seen on quite a few occasions, in person. It's largely about different intent in one culture versus another, and the challenge happens when the student spans both cultures. I did not say this happened to you, I said it happens to students from backgrounds like yours. Both of you seem like excellent people.
