The Blues Brothers: The car chase Scene
What’s happening in this The Blues Brothers movie clip?
As the Blues Brothers approach the city, all city police authorities are alerted and "the use of excessive force is approved" in their apprehension. The chase continues in Chicago, reaching speeds of 110 mph on Lower Wacker Drive. Dozens of police cars continue to pile up. Hearing chatter on the police radios, the Nazis spot the Bluesmobile and give chase. The Bluesmobile stops at the edge of a highway overpass under construction, but the car with the lead Nazi tumble over the edge. Jake and Elwood arrive at Daley Plaza just in time, as their car literally falls apart. The police buildup continues absurdly, with National Guard units, helicopters, and SWAT teams getting involved. Jake and Elwood hastily make their way to the Cook County Assessor's Office.

What’s the movie The Blues Brothers about?
Jake Blues (John Belushi from National Lampoon's Animal House) decides to re-form his music group with his brother Elwood (Dan Aykroyd from Ghostbusters). They want to raise money to save the orphanage where they were raised.

This always boggled my mind as a kid, but I've now put it down to divine intervention, since the Bros are "on a mission from God".

The producers had to get "special permission" from City Hall to go 118 mph under the Wells street Elevated tracks. And the FAA would Never allow a car to be dropped from a cargo chopper like in this movie again.

My interpretation is that it was God that made it possible. Since they were on a “mission from God” some sort of comedic but random divine intervention.

@@585MBA Which is also why all the other random stuff happens, even their car falling apart in the end. They were at their destination and didn't need the car anymore, God was showing that by removing His protection that kept it from falling apart(after all, it looked like it should've fallen apart long ago).

For those watching who know cars, I'm kinda curious; how impressive is it that despite a thrown rod, the Bluesmobile lasted THAT LONG? And realistically, could it have lasted that long, running that hard? (I know its a movie and just fun but I was kinda curious)
@curierfromxibalba1155
@curierfromxibalba1155 Год назад
No. That's why the scene where it just falls apart works, they were on a mission from god. The blues mobile is blessed/protected until that point. Most jumping stunts would of damaged the suspension components severely, that could render the car undrivable. When "it threw a rod", the engine could have exploded any second more so that it looks the radiator was damage too. Wich means the car would overheat in minutes and cease up at the rpm's it was forced to perform.
@thequietestengine
@thequietestengine Год назад
@@curierfromxibalba1155 Thanks for clarifying that for me! I've seen a few engines running on idle where a PUSHrod's works its way out from under the lifters and they clatter and wriggle about, but those are a far cry from the speeds Elwood was pulling off and also different kind of rods. (Also I guessed on the jumps and suspension and such, but thats for clarifying those for me too.)

I had a bunch of 'trinkets' like emblems I pulled off of them. The best item I had was one of the blue lights that was intact I found in the back seat of one of the cars. I think I had to pay $20 or $25 for it, I can't remember, the guy that ran it was a complete jerk. Sadly, I have none of it left.
