"The Bob Crane Show" debuted in March 1975 as a mid-season replacement. It was cancelled after only one season, and only 15 episodes were ever produced. The series featured Bob Crane as Bob Wilcox, the former vice president of an insurance company who quits his job and goes into medical school. Trisha Hart starred as Bob's wife Ellie. This episode features John Hillerman (Higgins on "Magnum PI") as the new campus dean and also introduces a young, up-and-coming actor, John Ritter, who later gained fame as Jack Tripper on "Three's Company." It is a good show starring Bob Crane. This was an old show from the 1970s, only less than a decade after Colonel Hogan.

Bob Crane was a TV natural. Network gave him a raw deal by dropping this show so soon.

The show did not do well in the Neilson ratings and was dropped after three months. I guess the audience did not like the idea of a middle-aged man quitting his job as an insurance executive and going to medical school. The show is a cipher in TV history.

He should have taken the offer to host "Family Feud".

John Ritter was already getting bigger roles than this already taking a role as priest on the Walton's for a few episodes.

Bob Crane was bitter about how this show unfolded--he felt NBC didn't promote it enough--that the casting was lousy--he felt there was no chemistry with the principal characters and the writing was sub par--he felt the show was put together too hastily and wasn't given enough time to find an audience

Other things he complained about that they were no neighbors to be with. Bewitched, I Dream of Jeannie, Bob Newhart all had neighbors. They should have had an episode where they had to move to a new apartment being the place they lived in was being condemned. The show is a cipher in TV history.

He was getting established as an actor. He was on The Walton's, Kojak, ABC Movie Of The Week, Barnaby Jones, The Streets of San Francisco, Hawaii Five-0, Bob Newhart Show etc. His father was cowboy actor Tex Ritter who made a lot of grade B Western films

It was a bad show, but Bob Crane still had charisma. Had he lived he probably would have had one more stab at a successful program, even if he was a supporting character. He would have been great on a show like Cheers. He could do drama too and would have been a natural for Dynasty, Knotts Landing, Falcon Crest, etc.

This episode was the final one of the series which aired on June 19th 1975. The TV shows Sunshine and The Bob Crane Show could not knock off The Walton's of the top of the mountain.

Just about all 3 camera shows of the era had a laugh track to supplement the reaction of the studio audience, but all I hear is the laugh track. It must have really bombed with the audience.

The show was called "Three's Company". Some of the shows Sanford & Son, All In The Family were based on British/English sitcoms.

It sounds like the reaction was mostly dubbed in, the studio audience either largely silent or (as also happened sometimes) largely missing.
