A classic, highly influential hit single released by the BFF in October 1965. I used the mono version to create this instrumental.
Bobby Fuller was found mysteriously dead in his car in June 1966, some suspecting suicide whilst others suspecting foul play. One conspiracy theory posits that the LAPD played a hand in Fuller's death...so maybe the Law DID win after all.
On a different note, I just realized that the BFF version of this song is actually a cover--it was originally by the Crickets (post Buddy Holly's death).

The instrumental sounds so different from the commercial version. I'm hearing sounds hidden from the original, and that's without headsphones. Love this. TYVM

Dylan, another great group when I was growing up. Just loved this song and saved up my allowance to buy the 45! I read what you said about Bobby and it brought back just how sad I was when I originally read just a small paragraph buried on a page in our New Orleans newspaper at the time. It stated that Bobby had died from carbon monoxide due to the fact that he was found in his car with the motor running and garage door closed. So, until I read what you posted about his death, I always assumed that he had taken his own life. Conspiracy theories never entered my mind. So sad no matter how you look at it because he was quite young and so very talented. 😢

It was a real shame; Bobby Fuller was a proper American rock and roller. Like Holly, Cochran, Valens, etc., one could only wonder how much more they could do had they not died so young. Apparently some of the music executives that Bobby Fuller was connected with were also tied to various mafia groups. Although reports indicated that Fuller’s car had been in the garage for half an hour, the rigor mortis state of his corpse implied that he had died considerably earlier. The LAPD quickly closed the case without any substantial investigation…I suspect that like Jimmy Hoffa, the world may never quite know *who* killed Fuller.

Yes indeed. Have to think this one qualifies for consideration in the 'iconic' status, at least from that era/genre. Thanks much for posting. Wondered if, in a similar vein, you have access to, or have done "Lies" from the Knickerbockers -- haven't seen a quality stripped version of the original, and was sort of surprised. Any consideration is always appreciated, although not if it's 3 A.M. and there's too much noise at your place, cause your people never want to go to bed...
