The Boeing 777X vs The Airbus A380 - What Plane Wins?

With the Boeing 747 program coming to an end, the 777X will become the American planemaker’s flagship aircraft.
Over at Airbus, production of the A380 has also ended. Be that as it may, the A380 is a newer plane than most of the passenger 747s produced, and still has a fair bit more flying to do.
So, if we were to spot a Boeing 777X and Airbus A380 parked side by side at an airport sometime in the next few years, which plane would you hypothetically hop aboard? Let’s compare the two jets in today’s long haul video!

Hit the nail on the head when saying airlines might not like the a380 (due to operational costs) but passengers love it. Its the most comfortable plane I have ever flown on. It feels so spacious in 10 abreast economy, plus its super smooth and quiet.

The only problem with the twin-engined widebodies is that airlines try to profit too much. It would've been spacious if it wasn't for them cramming every seat they can.

I need to fly on a 380 again to see if it really lives up to all the praise, it’s been 7 years since my last A380 flight…. I was a kid at the time, so any plane was exciting and felt the same. Now I’m older, I can validate whether people who wax lyrical about the A380 are just enamoured by the aircraft’s size and the occasion, or if it really is an airborne lounge.

The A380 is definitely the better plane when it comes to choice, even though it is a quad jet it still better in carrying passenger numbers from A-B. but then again the 777 has the better technology now. I would love to fly on the A380 again before they are all phased out. in future there will only be one option. the 777-9X. also the A380 is less fuel efficient due to its seize and engines numbers.

One thing they didn't mention is airport availability (unless I missed it). The A380 is very limited to the airports it can fly into. While they 777x with the fold up tips will be able to fly into nearly all major airports. I'm lucky enough to have seen it fly as we live in the testing area. It will be a nice addition to the commercial skies for sure. As far as comfort goes. That is subjective. I think airlines that use the A380 put a lot of effort making it a premier flying experience. A320 vs 737. They both are just buses in the sky. Comfort is not a major concern for most carriers.

The A380 was designed for a hub and spoke system. Boeing was right at the time; airlines and passengers were moving to a point to point organisation, avoiding change overs and flying directly to their destination. Boeing designed the 787 instead, that was spot on. The A380 was twenty years to late. The airbus engineers had envied the 747 for so long, they designed a better plane for a vanishing market. No doubt, airlines will progressively retire the A380 once they receive the 787, A350 and 777x in sufficient numbers to do so. There is no future for triple or quadruple engine planes. Then can't compete on efficiency.
@Clash_CT_Rocker69
@Clash_CT_Rocker69 Год назад
I remember an article in a specialized magazine that tried to predict the future of air travel. Two ideas are represented; according to the first, everything should have remained the way air traffic has been organized since the 60s and 70s of the last century, but airline companies only should flew more efficient and less noise/Co² poluting planes. Another approach envisioned a smaller number of large aircraft transporting large number of passengers from large and commercially viable long-haul airports to similar-sized airports on other continents. In addition to these large transport hubs, there were also medium-sized transport hubs within the all aray of transport hubs, from where passengers would be fly to their final destination in a smaller airport by smaller or medium-sized aircraft, depending on the number of passengers or cost efficient lines. The number of passengers would stabilize after some time and serve as a "measuring tool" for airlines and, along with other market trends, would help airlines select new aircraft models according to passenger capacity, fuel consumption and application of new technologies. It seems to me that Airbus predicted the future of global air traffic much better, but that is why Boeing focused on the production of medium-sized aircraft.

I fly Emirates Saigon, Dubai, London or Birmingham routes, the Saigon Dubai leg is on a B777, and the second leg is on an A380. Both outbound and inbound are overnight flights and so my body wants sleep. The A380 business seating package is the best I've used, with the 777 more coffin like and does not allow for turning with ease. Also, it's a two-seat arrangement on the window sides of the aircraft. The A380s bar is great to wander to and have a beer standing at the bar. Sadly, Emirates do not offer the A380 on the Saigon leg.

As has been said, none of us can know what the 777X will be like for passengers. My order of preference of existing aircraft type would be: 1. A380 2. A350-900 3. 777-300ER 4. A330-300 5. B787-9 When I fly, it’s ultra-long haul. Even though the 787 is pressurised to a lower altitude and has better climate control than some of these older aircraft, it just feels very small inside.

I do love these comparison video’s, there is of course a massive difference between the two, the A380 is flying around the world successfully and without any controversy over its certification. The B777x however is not yet certified, if the current war between Boeing and the FAA is anything to go by, it might not be certified, if it is eventually certified it might just have missed the boat as far as long range high density travel is concerned as most operators have already gone for either the A380 or the A350.

The B777x was developed as a replacement of the B777-200 primarily and the B747-400, but since the decision of many airlines to retired early the A380, then the B777X have become the best option currently in the market. If Boeing decides to launch the B797 as the replacement for both the 757 and 767, then Airbus will not have much options to offer but to keep upgrading theirs planes to make them Neo with more efficient engines and new wings.

The NMA won’t replace the 767. The 787 is officially the 767’s successor as a passenger plane. The 767 is still being produced for cargo application though I would imagine that once Boeing releases a 787F, I’m sure the big cargo airlines like UPS and FedEx will start operating those to replace both older 767Fs and A300Fs.

@@danharold3087 that was to contrast with how swiftly others and also non-aviator reporters and analysts from all reliable news houses jumped in to bash on the economics argument initially made for the A380 to fly. Just like with a toddler demanding something to reject it once provided, all turned on a dime the minute the trend took momentum. It completely ignored the commitments, investments and the awareness to the public, tailored to integrate that jet in the passengers flying choices. Many airports and other vendors accepted to adjust their facilities and services to accommodate the A380. There are many airlines that regularly fly practically empty, it's a common practice in their logistics, even to recently issue a letter of apology for having contributed to carbon emissions. In time Boeing will come out with 777-10 due to demand from rising passenger long haul volume. That one will seat 450+ and ease transition some from retiring a380…I bet this will occur
@heidirabenau511

Really, with the long certification progress and the 777-9 is running 5 years pate and the 777-8 passenger variant is at the risk of being scrapped and has no firm orders for the passenger variant, so it looks like it is unlikely that the 777-10 will ever enter service

Having flown on both of these aircraft the A380 is a RollsRoyce. The 777 is an updated 1960 Ford. One is large, quiet and smooth. The other noisy and cramped. If you don’t agree you are just a key board aviator who has NEVER BEEN IN AN A380.

7777x hands down. Fuel efficiency along gets Boeing the win. Also passengers want more frequency and direct flights. A380 is too large for most non hub to hub flights. This isn’t even close.

But you forgot that the A380 thanks to its capacity has lower fuel burn per passenger than the 777X.

@@heidirabenau511 no it's not. The 777X will have a seat cost similar to the 787 and a350 , that's definitely lower than the a380... Don't tell me just because the a380 can seat 500+ seats that it now has a lower seat cost . It's quite very heavy and has one of the Poorest seat cost performances of any modern jet

Just flown 777 from London to Bangkok and back economy class. Nightmare. Very cramped within the aircraft and only having one door to enter and exit the aircraft is awful. Give me the A380 widebodied spacious four engines over the 777 any day.
