He was exiled from kashyyk and willingly sold himself to a gladiatorial fighting arena just to learn to fight. He was such a fierce warrior that his owners implanted metal into his knuckles to give him permanent weapons. pretty insane

I love how the backdrop of ship wreckage for the Tusken Blacksmith pays homage to a Ralph McQuarrie pre-production painting for the Sandpeople from 1977 (I still have the complete lithograph set with it from when I bought it as a 6 year old the same year for one pound - that was two weeks worth of pocket money to a kid from Tyneside in those days!).

Tusken Raiders are just the aborigines' of the Dune Sea. They are the natives of Tatooine being mindlessly slaughtered by the 'off-worlders'. Much like many native tribes in history...a lot of parallels in this one.

@Lokabrenna That scene which explained the different tribes never once said that any tribes "randomly torture and murder outsiders for kicks", they literally say other tribes "have survived by killing" whereas this tribe "survived by hiding" not being 'nice', emphasis on the word SURVIVED... i.e. implying the off worlders, aka Colonisers, were the initial aggressors. So it makes sense why some Tusken tribes despise off worlders (even the peaceful ones) since they just turned up one day and drove them from their lands with force (just like Colonisers did IRL).

Remember Chewie is a pilot and engineer first, not a fighter - Black Krrsantan is a bounty hunter, ex-gladiator and serious badass. The Hutts are crime lords, like mafia 'made men' if you kill one they'll all unite and kill you, so you need permission from the Hutt clans to move against them. And the badass Tusken stick fighter is played by Joanna Bennett , she's done a lot of movie stunt work

This episode reminded me so much of Dancing with Wolves. The whole interaction with boba and the raiders from boba getting them weapons and attacking the train and then the whole weapon making and accepting him into the tribe and then the whole ritual dancing around the fire. If you have watch dances with wolves then think back to that movie and scenes in this episode and you'll understand. Such a great episode.

I can see it now that you mention it, but my first impression was of The Last Samurai. The training, the acceptance, the clothing/armor, the forging of a weapon for him…all very similar. The outsider becoming part of the whole.

The mayor was voiced by Robert Rodriguez. This episode was fire! Solid 9 out of 10. I loved getting a deeper look at the Tuscans’ culture. This gave me major Mando chapters 1 9 and 15 vibes. With Boba walking intothe bar and wrecking shop.

I'm impressed, that episode was some of the best Star Wars content I've seen. And I love it that Favreau and Feloni, along with the directors, are taking the 'show, don't tell' route. It's going to be a difficult episode to top, but I hope they at least will keep the quality up.

@@toamszkozak8822 actually he told her "I never said I could was" wich is not quite a denial. But in other scenes we see Boba carrying Mandalorian traditions, like "this armor was my fathers" and Jango was VERY much a Mandalorian. He even repainted the sigils when he repainted the armor.

It felt to me as if much of Temuera's own ancestral background played a role in fleshing out this fictional tribal storyline. I think it is always cool when the portrayal of a character is in some form a reflection of the person who plays it.

I think if One is familiar with the history and mythology of the United States's Wild West of 150 years ago the Tuscan Raiders are perfect analogs to the Native Americans of the Western plains. The train chase and the tribal rituals are clear giveaways to that, and there was the line in an early episode of "The Mandolorian" that said "They think this planet/land is theirs..." just like how a settler would think regarding the Western "Indians".

The Tuscans wasted so much water when they busted open the water tank car!😅 Their planet Tatoine, was a water planet, that is that almost all the world was water, certainly more than our real life Earth. I suspect the Tuscans were once water creatures. I suspect that is why they cover themselves from head to foot. I think their skin will almost instantly dry out like a dolphin or seal and probably die soon after.

Keep in mind that Chewbacca was a "small" wookie but he was still capable of pulling the arm off a human! So the Hutts's wookie could crush Fett into paste! And Jabba didn't walk in "A New Hope"; he slithered like a snake or worm or snail since he doesn't have legs, even if he does have arms.

Showing the Tuskens as they are is very much like how the indigenous tribes in the States were always perceived in the beginning as uncivilized savages. The Western, Samurai, gangster vibe is ever present. I am so loving that the Maori culture is also being imbued in this series.

Bro I'm so glad so many people compared the scenes of the warrior training him to the Last Samurai. That was immediately what I thought during their first bout when all the kids were watching. It was just like them making bets on how many moves they would win in on Last Samurai. Great scenes. Phenomenal episode. Also, the droid bailing on the train had me dying dude.

the other cool thing that's pretty nostalgic is the appearance of a Hoojib. (the little critter that the Twin grabbed to possibly eat.) They're Telepathic and Energy Eaters. They appeared in a Story record i had when i was a kid. (like around 1983) They also were in the Marvel Comics in the mid 80s. (Plif was the little guy's name)

People keep complaining that Boba got beaten by those assassins forgeting two things, 1) shields work, that is why they were used throughout history, and 2) Boba launched a rocket and took an explosion at point blank because shields work. All things considered after blowimg himself up killing two of the assassins is pretty good.

Much stronger ep than the first one. I like the emphasis on Boba standing with the indigenous people of the planet, which is not something the old Boba would have cared about. Looking forward to seeing more connective tissue regarding what's making him turn over a new leaf (and how that will actually translate in his career as a "crime lord.")

The big Wookie, Black Krrsantan is in STAR WARS lore and can be seen in comics. Also, when Nikki asked if that was a Wookie fur skin presented as tribute, yes it was. Those lizard people called, Trandoshan's would trap wookies on their home planet and take them to other planets to hunt them for sport. This is also why Black Krrsantan lost-it in the bar and ripped of one of their arms.

I think dave and jon should be given the movies aswell, they clearly know what there doing and I think building to a climatic battle mcu style between djin jarren, bobba, bo katan, ashoka, ezra, rex, against a big threat like thrawn for example would make like 2 billion easy

That Wookiee is non-other that Black Krrsantan. The most dangerous Wookiee in the Galaxy. He has worked with Boba before, (that's why he called him a Gladiator) until Vader had them work different jobs. He has fought Obi-Wan, kidnapped Owin Lars in a case of mistaken identity. He also worked with Doctor Aphra.

I've no idea if u guys read older comments but I had the pleasure of doing the Haka with Tumeura Morrison in the capital of the Mãori in New Zealand when I was 20. Damn! How cool to see them incorporate some of his history into the series. Had a photo for YEARS of him and I on my desk. It's the ceremonial dance of his people. So, there's another cool nugget of info. Love your videos and watching you geek out with me for all the stuff we love...TWD, Lost Kingdom. Also, my ex-husband is Chilean like Pedro so I've been to his hometown a few times. Won't buy u a cup of coffee but great memories! My almost 90yr. old Mum watches Fett n Mando with me and LOVES Grogu. She's probably trying to make it up for taking me to see Star Wars when I was 4. I hid from Darth Vader! under the seat. Lol But! I had Jawa and Luke action figures. Good times.

Not only was there a "The Last Samurai" vibe to this episode, but also "Lawrence of Arabia". During WW1 the Turks used battle trains in the desert, and Lawrence taught the Bedouins how to ambush and destroy them.

It was great to see you reacting to Star Wars again, Steven & Nikki. "Yelloooow..." I have to admit, that made me chuckle. I see, you've finally met the Wookiee Gladiator/Assassin/Bounty Hunter/Protector (of galactic archaeologist, Doctor Aphra)/Bad Azz, Black Krrsantan, who is a great character in the Marvel SW comics. I'm elated that he's appeared in Live Action...which means The Doc is not far away...at all. You 2: It's worth noting, this particular tribe of Tuskens don't subscribe to the bloodthirsty nature of a good many of their brethren of Tatooine...so, they're the exception, rather than the rule.

Boba literally shot a missile at one of the guys that attacked him and blew him up to pieces and we are talking about Boba going soft or not being as fierce? Like I don’t get peoples logic with how the first episode was lol it was great and the fighting was awesome. Plus Boba is not normally known for hand to hand combat even if we did see some more physical fighting of him in Mandalorian. He’s a bounty Hunter, or ex at this point. He generally fights with his gadgets which includes his weapons at his disposal which is what he did. And him not using his jet pack is likely because it’s still damaged from the Starlaac pit…maybe. I’m just assuming here because I don’t know if everything got repaired. I don’t really remember. But yea I really don’t get why so many people say the first episode was slow. It’s about as action packed as the first episode of Mandalorian was and I believe this episode is even longer then the first one in Mandalorian so we get to see more.

Black Krrsantan is the wookie. Gladiator and Bounty Hunter. First appeared in the Vader comics later played a big role in the Doctor Aphra comics

I like this episode. It showed the Tusken Raiders as a structured culture. And OMG!!! The Twins: a He-Hutt and a She-Hutt!!! And when the assassin was thrown into the Rancor Pit, I was like "wait, didn't Luke smash the Rancor's head with the sliding door?"(wink) And obviously Nikki is feeling better with her "yellow" call to the yellow dancer crossing the room. Good to see. Overall, a great reaction video to a really good episode. Keep it going you two!!!

Luke did end the Rancor. But in one of the recent, canon animations we learn there was a second rancor, fate currently unknown.

The train scene draws inspiration from early train tracks across the US plains. The passengers used to shoot buffalo, depriving the plains indians from a vital food source. Essentially starving them out. Millions of buffallo perished.

It would be nice to see IG-88 return even though we had a similar bounty bot in Mando. The way the twins said to "Sleep lightly" implies either Krrsantan or other bounty hunters will come to dethrone Boba.

In the original scene in A New Hope Jabba was played by a large man - the intention was to superimpose a CGI creature over him - but the scene was cut. By the time Return of the Jedi came out they had a whole different idea of what Jabba looked like - enter the Hutt. When Lucas did the special edition he wanted to include the scene but he had a problem.. Harrison Ford had sauntered closely behind the actor - so he would be walking right through Jabba's tail. Though he wasn't really fond of it Lucas when with the only feasible option - he had Han step on Jabba's tail.

Greatest episode so far. Loved the train hijacking scenes and the appearance of the intimidating bad-ass wookiee. I guess Steven has to read more Star Wars comics to know all the different characters, at least, that's what I can figure out from all the other comments😉

@Nikki & Steven React That Wookie is Black Krrsantan aka Black K aka BK aka Santy. A bounty hunter from the comics and a fan favorite. His debut was back in 2015 in Marvel's Darth Vader comics. I can't remember the exact issue.
