I only annotate fiction if it is a reread...non-fiction is hit or miss. Sometimes the words are almost too important to take time to annotate imo. Other times annotation is nice because it helps pace you. But I also have a really simple annotation system. One highlighter and idc about the color of the tabs. It makes it a lot more manageable and feels less like homework lol
Yes! I watch when I have napping kids so having accurate captions makes it so nice. Side note I love Noelles voice too, don’t know what it is but just like her cadence :)
Ready Player One. You could explore how the teens in the book create their avatars to express a 'hero' version of themselves and how that limits real intimacy. For Helen especially her avatar is armour since her own mother doesn't accept her IRL.
I am in love with this channel. I love to read, but this channel, and all of Noelle’s videos just make me want to lock myself in my room and read for hours. Thank you, I appreciate all of your content :)
The Shadow of the Wind quartet is just pure genius. Each book hits on a different genre (coming of age, heist, horror/psychological thriller, detective/mystery) which makes it amazing. Because it hits on all genres, this is by far my favorite series of all time.
If you're looking for more short stories I'm currently writing a paper for my English degree on Flannery O'Connor, and my god that woman could write! She is the definition of Southern Gothic and her stories are so good and funny but so biting at the same time.
i truly appreciate how much noelle takes the atmosphere into account when looking for and recommending books. the aesthetics of the locations and the covers themselves never slip her eye :)
i just graduated on saturday and my reading has SURGED. i read song of achilles and the hating game yesterday and loved both of them!! i'm going to read circe after my heart heals from achilles, the house in the cerulean sea, euphoria (oh my god these are all books you've talked about recently), and the green mile!! good luck with your finals :)
I had never cried from reading a book until I read The House in the Cerulean Sea...I think you're really really going to like it and I'm honestly so excited for you.
I work at Barnes and Nobles, and the book a Court of Thornes and Roses by Sara J. Maas seems like it's right up your alley. It's essentially a fantasy romance set around the story of beauty and the beast and is super heckin steamy. All the girls at work have been raving about it.
GIRL I FEEL YOU WITH THOSE SEMINAR PAPERS. I just want to quickly recommend “Off the Road” a memoir by Carolyn Cassady, Neal Cassady’s wife. It’s SO GOOD. I wrote one of my papers on it.
I really *need* the ones we're meant to find 🥺 I had a neuroscience paper and my thesis due in April and only listened to audiobooks, just don't burn yourself out, I've been fatigued ever since 😭
Severance is such a fascinating novel. The pandemic sections are harrowing and disturbing, but Ma’s exploration of the protagonist’s life before the pandemic is equally as upsetting and unnervingly relatable for those of us who work office jobs. Such a brilliant satire on consumerism and capitalism. It’s not a perfect novel, I thought the middle dragged quite a bit, but I couldn’t tear myself away from the final 70ish pages. Such a maddening ending! Happy reading! Good luck with finals! Sending hugs! 📚❤️
The House in the Cerulean Sea is sooo great! Fantastic characters both in nature and in personality, endearing love story and human connections, and a lot of funny moments. I hope you love it, it was one of my favorites last year!
These are fantastic books you are about to read dear Noelle!! I am already looking foward to the may wrap up!!! :) And I am also very excited to read "The Green Mile" by Stephen King. I am pretty stoked!!! :D Btw good luck with your finals!!
You have inspired me to pick up The House on the Cerulean Sea again. I own it. Started it and loved it, but then life happened so I put it down. I also read the Kiss Quotient last month and will be reading the Bride Test this month.
I am eagerly waiting for The Maidens, I read The Silent Patient about a month ago and I loved it. Hearing Noelle hyped up about a book is how I prepare my monthly TBR.
and, i hope you like Upstream! i haven't read it yet but Mary Oliver is like my all time favorite patron saint of my life, she could rewrite the phone book and i'd be in tears
The silent patient is one of my favorite thrillers everrrrr, I'm so jealous (in a good way) you got that ARC!!!! I can't wait for the maidens to come out and also can't wait to hear your thoughts about it
The Dating Plan was super cute; especially because I got to revisit the Patel's from The Marriage Game. The House In the Cerulean Sea is on my May TBR also. Looks like you'll have a beautiful reading month.
I read Severance for a class and I loved it! It can get heavy at times just bc of the general misery of the dystopia, but it's worth a read. And I'm with you, I have so many papers due in May so I don't really have much reading planned beyond academic reading :)
Oh my god. I'm having my exam season right now and had one of my biggest exams today and just want to live my life in peace now instead of stress and then there comes Noelle with a new video. Couldn't be better I love u so much!
I can’t wait for you to read ‘The People We Meet On Vacation’ I think it was in your April TBR but you haven’t read it yet. So excited to see what you think even if you get to it in a few months!
So excited for your thoughts on Severance. I read it last year during our strict lockdown, which amplified the sense of isolation felt by the main character.
i have the house on the cerulean sea on hold at my library right now! hopefully i’ll get it in time for the livestream 🥲 this month i plan on reading the flatshare (almost done!), the shining, everything is illuminated (reread, one of my all time faves), milkfed, and what we all long for! oh god and i have to finish a little life, i’m at the happy years and i just - i can’t bring myself to do it.
I have my final assignment for uni due in the next couple of weeks and I am deep diving into my TBR pile for sure! It’s going to be a summer of reading for me that’s for sure.
Definitely want to read Severance this year. It sounds wonderful. Very much looking forward to reading The Maidens. I'm on the waiting list at my library for it! I read The Silent Patient last year and absolutely loved it. I read it in just one day, which is rare for me! 🖤
I like the dating plan. Took some pages to get into the story. But oh my God, its so sweet and steamy! I’ve read 2/3 so far so very excited about the rest of the book!
Excited to hear what you think of The Refugees! I also bought it in April and hope to read it soon. The Sympathizer by Nguyen is also so good and the sequel just came out this year!
