Large groups of illegal immigrants are swamping the dozen or so Border Patrol agents per shift responsible nowadays for 571 rural miles of inaccessible, mostly unwalled Rio Grande border. Statistics suggest about a 50 percent got-away rate there that could be added to apprehensions.

Article is interesting but useless; just another version of many stories told before. What would be interesting is who is organizing and funding these treks from central America. After a trek of more than a thousand miles how are able to arrive at the border looking like they just crossed the street. Some have been seen with brown envelopes full of cash. Please, lets break some new ground on this issue.

While I was visiting Big Bend last year I often wondered about this. It’s hard to imagine migrants coming through this area due to the extremely rugged and vast landscape. We backpacked for several weeks in and around the park and it’s challenging even with the best of equipment. It’s past time to deploy our military resources that are now back stateside from the ME.
