I don't care which, but everyone should be aware there is an inherent danger in joining cults. Not least when you throw all your money into a plummeting stock. Digging tunnels through sand and gravel, with no water pressure, doesn't make them Cyber. Making a stained truck less so. Making a really cheap, FSD family car would really impress me. How's about that?

If the Boring Company could dig tunnels cheaper and/or faster then other tunnel companies then it would mean something. The warming climate has already resulted in heavier rain falls that overstress existing flood control infrastructure. If more storm tunnels could be made economically by BT then it would be very useful and stand to make a fortune.

Those tiny death tunnels actually do seem better suited to utility infrastructure over traveling. A tiny constrained tunnel that a car can barely go through just isn't safe. People say Musk is a genius, but he sure dropped the ball thinking those constrained tunnels will be everywhere, acceptable, or Hyperloop would ever be economically viable. Anyway great point. If it does go faster, and is cheaper? It could be awesome for many cities. Having the ability to go further below would be great too. Let us get some milimeter wave drilling into the Boring Company too. Using microwaves to blast a hole seems something like Elon would do.

I think a circuit board would be a good analog for the factory. Electrical connections represent the flow of incomplete products, components represent processes, etc There are times when a jumper to one place in the board allows you to greatly simplify the rest of the circuit board. They could have developed a network of tunnels that allow for general transportation of components a layer below...

open ai is not integrated into the apple os, any time it is used it notifies you and you have to approve. additionally the majority of ai computing is done on device and any time it has to go to the cloud to compute it notifies and have to approve, plus it then is only sent anonymously to private secure apple servers and never stored in any fashion. apple takes security very seriously, a LOT more than google/android and microsoft does!

I like that in their construction of buildings and other infrastructure they are thinking in 3D. Boring under is something we should have done a long time age but it just wasn’t cost effective or technically feasible. Bigger TBM and better urban planning mean a lot of old infrastructure is going to get moved improved and front end installed. There will be billions spent on these upgrades in our cities and that means thousands of jobs. Win win win!

Boring will allow them to build COMPLETE HIGHWAYS UNDER THE FREEWAY. Imagine a highway BYPASSING A CITY LIKE ATLANTA OR DC. No more having to go through BS city traffic if you are passing through. Underground freeways with electric vehicles won't have the same air quality problems as they would today. And the leftists might get their train from DC to SF... Just underground.

The tunnel is for one way exit of completed EVs. Impossible to make a tunnel in the reverse direction and besides, a parallel tunnel is unnecessary as this is an exit portal for completes EVs, not a car park building..LoL

My question is this - that tunnel looks mighty tight and being a model Y owner myself i can tell you that kerbs are not your friend with the wheels on any tesla!! The number of badly scratched wheels i have seen on teslas is incredible as the rims extend beyond the tyres so will hit before the tyre does. So my question is how much space does the tunnel allow for the wheels as it looks mighty easy for a scrape along as it travels along the tunnel, especially around a corner...!!

12 or 18 feet in diameter. Plenty of room with gentle entry and exit curves. Instead of humans driving the service road, cars will use self drive in the tunnel.

They kind of all have. It’s minor launch modification to a medium size EPB TBM. Most tunnels don’t have the space to do this due to other constraints around them.

@@MegaWilderness The channel tunnel (like many tunnels) followed the favorable ground conditions wherever it could. Chalk marl is a fairly ideal material for tunnel excavation. It is a soft rock that is largely self-supporting and easily excavated. Much of it is dry, however the channel tunnel did encounter large sections that were fractured and water bearing. The French side had to pass through sections that were much more challenging near the portal until it could reach down to the chalk marl, this required the use of Earth Pressure Ballance TBM's (like TBC) and fully watertight segmental lining for the first several kilometers. In an urban environment there are usually other physical constraints that largely dictate the alignment (foundations, other tunnels, land rights, operational radius constraints etc.)

"If Elon already owns a tunnel digging operation why not dig some tunnels?" because that's self dealing, which is a form of embezzlement, which is a crime. Executives at a company have a fiduciary duty to the shareholders to not misspend company assets, even if they are the majority shareholder. Musk currently owns 13% of the shares outstanding, but 100% of the money they spent on that tunnel went into his pocket. I find it very hard to believe that they put it out for a competitive bid and TBC won fairly at a price TBC can make money at.

About self driving: it will probably never be perfect, but it doesn't have to be. It will remove millions of moron-drivers from the road. All drivers, even the moron versions, will be safer on the roads. Plus, think of the improved travel times due to reduced accidents caused by driver error. Lower insurance costs. One intervention every couple of years versus all of the dummies blowing through red lights and stop signs. Self driving should be implemented immediately and to the max.

The thing to remember is, if it’s possible to need it on Mars when Elon plans to eventually gets there. He’s going to develop it here first to test and pay the bills. Tunnels 👍, starlink 👍, phones that hook to starlink 👍, robots to do dangerous jobs that could be done by humans 👍, AI to control robots 👍, factories that build self driven vehicles 👍, just think about it, he’s probably already working on it.

Wouldn't it be great if the boring machine could work forward or backwards (with a few changes). That way, the machine could dig a tunnel. Move over and dig another tunnel in parallel without the need to turn around. Cool? Most tunnel systems require two tunnels for two way traffic. So, why not a boring designed for dual tunnel systems?

How would RoboTaxi deal with one intervention every two years. There is no wheel to grab so perhaps they could add a panic button, or have a scream alert. But how do you deal with idiots who would cry wolf. A huge fine, a doors locked trip to the nearest cop shop, Etc. In event of this button being pushed, the vehicle will lock doors, park, and summon police. Hmmm If found guilty of such an offense, your photo will be added to the Database, and no robotaxi will ever, open its doors for you, for a proscribed number of years.

why no (model Y) refresh this year?? My own little guess. From the research I "see" being done. (I gotta go by the same "news" you all see. I'm not in the IEEE no more). But a new battery technology will emerge soon. The model Y will debut it (probably). That part is the only logic I can "see". This current battery charges to slow, and the (20%) limit on each end of the charge is to much waste. There will be "something" else. What? I'm not into chemical engineering. Just enough to know I'd be stupid to make a hypothesis here.

Tesla could always buy Blackberry very cheap and Ericsson. I used to love those contractor phones that you could throw off a building. Samsung already has a good working relationship with Tesla.
