Really good video. I have had a Gt100 for years and am still learning. I really like the way you went through the review; no wasted talking that was off topic. Thank you.
I could not understand why the f is it not working, and the S/R must be on for it to work. Your video solved the problem. Thank you. It sound much better now.
I have had the GT-100 for last 2 years and just got the Marshall DSL40c recently and this video completely cleared up my questions about the external Footswitch and how to configure for the 4CM for this amp. (I know you can do this with any amp with loop return) but was great I stumbled upon this with exactly what I needed to do. Fantastic video and have subscribed and will be watching your other videos thank you !
OK so, I did find the S/R setting and change it to where I am back at the Marshall amp. Is there a way I can do it without bending down to the floor to the GT 100? I also have the app control cable put on but don’t see as though it is functioning. Is that something you may know about?
A few questions for you friend? 1) what if your amp already has a foot switch that controls the amps channel switching;and how would it effect your method of connecting to and controlling the Boss GT-100? 2) what kind of cable did you use in the back of your amp for the extra feature you spoke of? And can you upgrade the type of cable used? 3)Why did you use so many different types of cables in the 4 CBM demonstration? (I’m using all monster rock cables?) 3)Do you have further footage on how to set up your amp and processor? My amp is the Laney 30watt iron heart combo amp(3 channel foot switchable amp). Thanks for your time and your video.
Hey there . 1) what if your amp already has a foot switch that controls the amps channel switching;and how would it effect your method of connecting to and controlling the Boss GT-100? You can still use your amps footswitch to switch channels and use the GT100 for effects and the wah. It should be the same connection on the GT100. 2) what kind of cable did you use in the back of your amp for the extra feature you spoke of? And can you upgrade the type of cable used? I used just a regular guitar cable I forget what brand. Any guitar cable should work. 3)Why did you use so many different types of cables in the 4 CM demonstration? (I’m using all monster rock cables?) I just have a few different cables laying around. I like the Pro Co cables from Sweetwater I think they are made well and are a good value. (I also have a mosster rock cable but I dont use it much because its too long and gets in the way!) 3)Do you have further footage on how to set up your amp and processor? My amp is the Laney 30watt iron heart combo amp(3 channel foot switchable amp). Only what I have on my channel but if there are specific questions about the GT100 maybe I can try to do a quick video? Thanks for your time and your video.
If anybody wants to use this with a 2 channel amp, make sure you have the S/R on, and Roland recommends putting it at the very beginning of your chain.
can you address how to set the levels? Like volume coming out of the GT100, how to send the amps line levels if theres a control. I have everything set around 50% right now, sounds ok, but still not sure if I'm driving the amp properly as opposed to just plugging in the front and cranking the master volume knob.
Does anyone have the Laney Iron heart combo? This video shows a fifth guitar patch cable to be used with amp combos multi-channel foot switchable function with Boss GT-100:)
Q: I'd like to combine the ME unit with a pedal (Fortin GRIND) - where is the optimal position for this pedal in the 4CM chain, as described in this video?
Very clear for me thanks, I liked the demo for assigning fuctions to the different pedals. One question, on this exemple you are using a pre-amp (appearing in the soft) and you choosed combo stack in the "output select". I believed that with this option we were bypassing pre-amp simulations of the GT100. Is it just a representation of your hardware pre-amp (that we see in the soft) or did you use 2 pre-amp, one from the gt and a second from your combo? Thx for your answer
Nice video man, very straight forward. I'm looking into buying a gt100 in the future to use with my half-stack. I want to use it in patch mode and set up patches using my amps distortion and clean channels as well as using some of the effects in the front of the amp and some through the effects loop. How exactly do you setup the GT100 to do so? Thanks!!
It will work - my idea is to use GT-100 the same way, as all BOSS amps are still quite good in FX section but lack in OD/DS and amp simulation. So You can use noise supressor, compressor, Wah and OD/booster in FRONT of your external amp. To do so, plug guitar into BOSS's guitar in, and then from BOSS's SEND to Amp's Input. Another section is FX and modulations AFTER your amp, so from amp's loop SEND we go to BOSS's RETURN. Then from BOSS's outputs (my amp has stereo loop and stereo power amp section) left and right go to amp's RETURN sockets. BOSS's output select should be Combo return or Line/Phones (choose the one sounding best), and swith both AMP, Cabinet/Microphone sections to OFF. That's it. Ready to rock. AMP control also can be used and BOSS is the only one cheap guitar processor that has such great feature not only by MIDI.
Many thanks for this invaluable setup info which i now use. Could you please advise how to add an external foot pedal into the mix, such as my beloved Cry baby wah. Thanks
I'm glad if this helped in any way! I don't have an External pedal to demonstrate but I might try to do a video anyway showing the settings on the GT100 that would be required.
Good day. I have a Boss Gt-100 conected throught the 4 cable method to a Marshal Amp. If I still want to use the amp simulation in the GT-100, where must I put the loop S/R (send/return); before or after the amp simulations. Please reply. Thank you.
Hey there, I am following your set up, using the 'combo return' setting in 'systems' to my Marshall JCM800 combo.... but have 2 problems. 1. When in manual mode, I can't find SYS as an option for the ACCEL/CTL pedal.(as shown on your display) 2. How do I save these settings? When I exit manual mode by pressing the two bank pedals again, the device reverts back to the factory settings. Many thanks. Alan
I am thinking about getting the GT 100 for FX only. I am using a Hughes & Kettner Tubemeister. The thing I want to to is beeing able to switch channels on my amp and selecting specific FX for that channel with one hit (!) (e.g. switching to Lead and using a Pitch Shifter and a Compressor before the amp and a phaser, a delay and reverb in the FX loop. Is that possible? Thanks for your great video!
Jannis if you have MIDI connections on the amp then yes, you could switch channels and have patches that do specific effects that's actually my current setup on my Blackstar ID60. If you dont have MIDI, then the GT100 can only switch between 2 channels.
I have this same amp along with a 2017 PRS custom 24. I am new to playing and have the option to buy this from a friend for a good price. Can you do a demo of some of the sounds? I love the gain on the amp and the clean crunch sound, but the clean I have to turn all the way up hear. And do you like this over the line 6 hd500x?
I think both are good units and in the end its really just a preference thing. I just liked a few of the functions of the GT100 a little better so I sold the HD500x.
Hey Rob. How can I use this so that i use my amps (6505× head), preamp distortion and just use the gt100 for OD and Gate, delay and a clean/chorus? Would that be the 4cm? I want the button 1 to be my amps distortion (with added OD and gate from the gt100). Button two to be a clean/chorus, and the ctrl pedal to be a delay. Ive tried this in 4cm thinking i would get my amps tone but instead button 1 is a preset patch. I tried turning everything off in the chain but it left me with a dry clean tone. I dont want to use any distortion amp models from the gt100. Am I not supposed to do the 4cm? Amd I supposed to hook up the gt100 out to the amps fx loop send only needing one cable? Please help.
Watch this video for the tone studio section. You need to deselect the S/R button and place the effects after the preamp in tone studio. You need to do this for each preset on the GT100.
Is the 4 cable method applicable only in one patch or automatically applicable to all patch. 4 cable method only for manual mode or ok on both banks or manual..
I’m running the 4cm on the gt100 with a Marshall tube head JMD1 series. I’m getting the sound from the gt100 fine. I cannot switch back to my JDM1 series amp if needed. Am I missing something like a setting or what? I have the 5th cable for amp control as well. Still nothing from the Marshall tubes. Thank you in advance for your help with this matter.
I think what you may need to do is turn OFF the S/R mode on the GT100. If you do it in BOSS EDIT its easy. You may want assign one of the 1-4 foot controllers to turn it on/off in a patch.
What the best? Four cable method connect to Amp or Boss GT 100 like preamp method? I have Boss GT 100 and connect to Boss Katana 100 mk 2. I use accoustic or clean channel usually in Katana. I don't know which the best.
Hey I switched off the cabinets on the GT100 because I was going through my 2x12. If the cabinet block is on, it will sound odd kinda out of phase or something.
I just got the GT.100 today, and i am also relatively new to Amps and stuff. I did it all like you said, with my Blackstar HT Metal 60 2x12 Combo, and all I got is a humm sound. No Guitar, no nothing. Its all like you showed in the Video with where to plug which cable. Still I dont get any sound, other than a humming noise. Any idea whats that about ? Any help is greatly appreicated !°!!!
Ugh! Blackstar amps are notorious for having crap send/return ports. My Venue 100 head was the same way until I had to go toe to toe with the dealer who sold it to me to get it fixed because Blackstar wouldn’t listen to me about their lame ports. Even my small HT5 I bought used doesn’t work.
psour33 The modeling sims and effects in the boss katana are several generations ahead of the GT100 as far as the 4 cable method, you probably wouldn't need it because the Katana has a good foot controller and built in FX. I have the Blackstar ID60 and IMO it's as good or better than the Katana.
Love this video and thank you for this demo but I have one question. The amp or stack selection doesn't really work when applying the 4 cable method, does it work with you? I hear no sound difference at all when changing between the stacks!
Rob L there is an option where you select the setup of the amp and cabinet? Whether its a combo, a mini amp, a stack etc.. while using the 4cm u cant hear any difference if u change between amp setups.
The whole point of the this tutorial and the 4CM (usually) is to allow you to use your amps gain while using the BOSSGT 100s effects. If you press "system" it will allow you to choose "stack return" or "combo return" etc. You probably want to chose one of those so that you are not using the cabinet simulations since you have an amp with its own real speaker.
if your using the send/receive correctly in the effects chain, select the send/receive in the effects chain, make sure its on (Bypassing the preamps) change the mode from normal to direct mix. That should resolve the issue
Hi thanks for your video and please excuse my cumbersomness , I hooked the GT 100 up as you suggested and it works fine until you turn up the amp(Fender Super sonic) up to about 5 there is this high pitched squeal . Even if you turn the guitars volume down to naught the squeal continues - any ideas ? thanks again :-)
all good Rob thanks for replying have since sorted the issue - do you know by any chance how to assign either the Ac/Cntrl or the Looper pedal to tap tempo delay in manual mode ? its got me stumped - cheers :-)
Thanks for the video Rob. Mind to explain why you still have a GT-100 Pre-Amp active in your 4CM setup? From what I understand, you shouldn't need that (if you were to use your Amp's Pre-Amp exclusively in 4CM)?
Awesome, thanks for the speedy clarification. I thought you might have found yet another mysterious way on how to use the pre-amps in a different way :-). Still finding surprises on the GT-100 after almost 6 years.
I have set up my gear like this 4CM. I have a Soldano 50W, so I want to play between patches with Marshalls emulations (GT100) and other ones with only few effects after the Soldano preamp (the drive is brutal). But it doesn't work. The only way to play the preamp is changing the cable method to the regular one (Guitar>Gt100>amp input). It is very frustrating. I have tried almost everithing in "system": half stack, stack return, lines/phones... Nothing works... I think that if I don't use any preamp in the GT100 chain, it would use the SOLDANO preamp, but no. Any help, fellows?...
What is DSL 4CM on the right hand side of the paedalboard I can’t find it on my boss GT 100. Is that for the for cable method? If so how do I get to that? I have everything set up the way you have it listed including the foot switch control mode but I can’t find that the DSL4CM. Do I have to have that set up for the for cable method?
Hey bud, basses video. But how do I get the dsl 4cm on the screen like u did. I have the same exact amp that u have. And I can't or know now to get the dsl 4cm on the screen
Hey Rob thanks for the video. Couple of questions. 1) If I use the gt 100 with a tube amp and the s/r off in tone studio, am I still getting any benefit of the tubes our is it bypassing them? Or maybe just bypassing the power tubes? 2) if I have s/r on AND an amp model on, am I blending my amps natural sounds with the modeled amp in the gt?
If I'm understanding your questions, if you use the preamp of the GT100, you are bypassing the preamp in the tube amp but still going through the power amp in the tube amp. If you are only using the GT100 for effects, then you are hearing the preamp section of the tube amp and still using the power amp section of the amp. So in other words, in both scenarios, you are always going through the power amp section of your amp.
@@RobNY5150 Ok, that makes sense. But re: my second question - Ive got my 4 cables set up - I'm still trying to understand what is happening when I have S/R set to "on" and it's is in the chain before my pre-amp model (for example, combo crunch), and my combo crunch pre-amp model is also "on" at the same time. It seems like I am getting a combination of my amp's pre-amp sound with the gt modeled pre-amp, in this case the combo crunch. Or am I still bypassing my amps pre-amp - it sounds like it blends them together. I hope that makes sense.
@@farrken when you are using the preamp model of the GT100, you are totally bypassing the preamp on your Marshall etc. Its the same thing as going into the RETURN on the back of your amp. You are only hearing the preamp model of the GT100 but still getting the benefit of using the power amp section of the Marshall etc.
Just in case anyone else is reading this more than 2 years on... The S/R on/off basically turns on (or ignores) whatever is connected between the send and return cables on the GT 100. In the case of the 4 cable method in this video it's the pre amp section of your amp. So if S/R is on then your amp preamp is being used and you should turn off the preamp in the GT 100. You could have both on but that would be daft as you don't normally run one amp into another one. If S/R is off then you can use any GT100 preamp you want instead of your amp preamp. That can be really useful if you have your own amp dialled in for most of your set but there are times where you find that the GT100 preamp works better, such as if you have a low gain amp and end up needing to play death metal in the middle of your blues set
Hi Rob - thanks for the video. I hope you see this because I have a question. I too have the DSL 40 and am using Tone Studio as well. I've hooked everything up like you showed - even the amp's channel control, however, the effects after the pre-amp don't work (delay, reverb, chorus). The effects on the front en work fine (way, OD, compression). Any ideas?
Oh man I actually sold the GT100 a while back and have moved back to pedals (I'm still using the 4CM but I'm doing it all with a BOSS NS2 and other effects) just look at my video and match the settings if possible.
@@RobNY5150 Thanks for the quick reply. I've watched you video multiple times and I'm pretty sure my setup is exactly as yours - even adjusted the noise gates to your settings using Tone Studio - just can't get the back-end effects to work.
@@RobNY5150 No sweat, don't worry about it. Curious though why you went back to boxes? I'm an intermediate player and just can't hit two boxes at the same time so thought a digital processor with programmable patches would be easier. And safer.
@@XXXgarfield343XXX the truth is it was just about wanting a change. I wanted to try a bunch of pedals again so I kinda came full circle. I also now have the DSL20 HEAD.
Hello Rob, thanks again for all of your help on my Boss GT-100. Everything works great with it except when I wanna put the Tone studio in it my computer gives me the following long message: “There is not enough space on Boss_GT-100. You need an additional 19.5 MB to copy these files. I’m running software 2 in The GT-100. I’ve searched for a solution but nothing yet.
Hi, I read through all the comments to make sure this question isn't redundant. I want to use the 4CM but also want to be able to combine that with some of the patches, like go from my amp distortion to say the combo crunch patch. Can you switch between the two. Thanks.
I no longer own the GT100 but I believe I understand what you're asking and the answer is yes...you would have to have one of the switches programmed to turn on/off the S/R option ( You can do this through the menu or through Tone studio).
Hi, Great video.. do you think that the 4 cable method is useful if you only use the clean og the Amp.. i mean the this method is to bring the amps od into the GT signal chain?
Rob L sorry i want a little fast.. im only using the clean channel on my amp ( i do not like the overdrive sound ) Do you think its worth the 4 cable mode still.. the only difference will be that i can add some effect after the amps clean preamp, so i mean is there much difference by placing like a chorus before a clean preampor after the clean preamp? Thanks for answering by the way😀
Rob L Yes,😀 i got my first used gt-100 about 3 days ago. The day after i got it Boss released news aboyt the 1000.. i came from the gt-8, tryed the gt-10 but didnt find it that more better than the 8.. but the gt 100 i awesome!!!
Is the GT-100 fairly transparent when running 4CM? Or more specifically, is it difficult to make it transparent or close to it? I have owned a GT-10 for about 3 months, and I'm trying hard to like it, but with all the input/output levels (main, instrument, effects return level, etc.) I've found it introduces noise and/or sounds thin or too hot. In other words, tone suck. Using my tc electronic Nova System, it was very much a set-it-and-forget-it experience.
I can't compare to either but IMO it is very transparent. You do have to play with the output levels like all processors I suspect. I no longer use it for the 4CM because I now have a Marshall CODE and it's not necessary but when I had the Marshall DSL combo, I would A/B it with and without the GT100 to get an accurate output level. It was a little tedious but I think I got it.
@@RobNY5150 I appreciate the quick reply! That tedious process is what's burning me out on the whole thing. Kinda regretting selling all my stompboxes to buy this. I LOVE my DSL20HR and 2x12 core tones!
@@tjborekvideo I hear ya on that. For me, its worth it because of the flexibility and programmability. The DSL series (original and new) are all phenomenal. I recently got the CODE head which honestly is a totally underrated amp. And I've owned DSLs, Mesas, fenders, blackstars etc
I will check the hard drive today. Would it tell me the GT-100 is full ? If it’s the pc I can use a different one if all else fails. I sure appreciate your help and time on this.
I'm not sure exactly what that warning means. I think I would assume that the hard drive needs more space to download BOSS edit and back up your GT100 settings. I dont know if the actual GT100 unit can run out of space for settings.

hello.can you help me ? I like to use the aps cotroll but unfortunately the back of the amplifier has 6-pin connector not 6,3 jack input. thx
I'm not completely familiar with 6 pin connection. If it has an effects loop you should be at least able to use effects with the 4CM. However, you will simply have to change channels using the stock foot controller.

@@RobNY5150 4CM is working but i want to change the amp's 3 channel with boss gt100 also. is it possible ?
Claude Balls it's the kind of thing I'd have to see in person to figure it out I think but I don't think you can do that in manual mode because that mode will turn effects on and off and change channels but not bank up and down. Right now I'm using the GT100 simply as a midi control (and wah) for my Blackstar ID60.
It depends on what you want to do. Without an effects loop, the only way to utilize the GT100 would be to go into the front of the amp on the clean channel and use the GT100 that way. Or you could use it with your gain channel but just use the GT100 for its overdrive and wah. The problem is that if you use the preamps on the GT100, you're also going through the preamp of your amp. I'd prob suggest just using GT100 as a distortion pedal and wah at that point.
Hi, is it possible on the GT-100 to have a dual simulated rig setup (i.e. 2 different power amps, 2 amps, 2 cabinets at the same time). then route it left and right on the stereo output and delay one of the signals (by milliseconds) to make a thicker sound? i usually do this with amplitube, just wondering if it's possible too with this fx pedal. thanks
Hi yes it is. How is Amplitude btw? Lately, Ive been using BIASFX exclusively for direct recording. With the GT100 you can do it this way. Either use headphones or go out from the L and R outputs to PAs (or studio monitors) and onethe Divider choose "Duel" and then in the Mixer choose "PAN L/R". Then choose a preamp for Channel A and B. You can make them different amps and cabs, MICs etc. One amp will be on the right and one on the left. As far as delaying one of the signals to make it slightly thicker sounding, you can achieve this by either using a delay on one amp, or a stereo delay and just that or in the Mixer, there is a option called "Spread" that makes them slightly out of phase to give a more spacial or "delayed" sound.
Awesome, well i've been using the AT3 on studio and still pretty happy with it, by tweaking and properly calibrating your guitar input you can get great sounds, but for stage i'm actually looking for an affordable option like the GT-100 and be able to manipulate my tone the way i do on AT3. thanks for your advise, i also considered going on stage with a laptop (PC AT3 + foot controller) but could be risky in terms of stability and a potential crash or delay while playing for hours, so i think i'm going for the GT-100. Regards From Colombia!!
Hey actually sold that amp. I then got a blackstar ID60 and then sold that too. I now have the Marshall CODE100 head going through a 2x12 and I love it.
@@RobNY5150 I just set mine up the way you said. I have the DSL40CR actually, but when I turn the effects loop off the amp, i get no sound? Would you know why>
I was about to write that this was a nice vídeo. A Boss Gt100 + a Marshall DSL40, 4cm... Its difficult to get better ingredients in a video But in the end you fuck it all not making any sound??? You should have played man! No beer for you today!!!
Hello, Rob. I followed your video to make the 4-wire method in my gt-100. The results are not what I thought or similar to yours. I have a MG50CFX marshall amplifier a Godin guitar and I put the cables as you say but the patch sounds bad, better sounded when I connected them to the studio monitors. also there is too much noise in the pre amplifier. Guitar to input GT 100, L/Mono GT100 to Send amplifier, improved a lot but I don't know why it works that way, it's like a two-wire method. The only thing is that it sounds very serious (GRAVE) and I don't know where to regulate this, since I skip the Marshall preamp so the controls except the master volume don't work. I leave you a sample and thank you for your help, ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-yCM2AkRr2iU.html
As far as the noise try to put a noise gate in the front of your signal chain. Unfortunately, there is no way for me to figure out what the problem is unless I was there.
