In today’s video I will be creating a custom crossbody bag. The leather that I am using is from Montana Leather. This leather is American Bison leather that is 2 ounce in weight.
This is a simple crossbody bag that I created to hang close to the body. There is really a lot of space in the bag.
Here is a link to Montana Leather used in today’s video. The leather that I purchased was on close out and was $75 for the whole hide.

This was fun watching someone else do pattern development. So few leatherworkers nowadays make their own patterns. If you change it up after a critique from your wife you will have to do a follow-up 😊

that came out neat. i was worried when you were shoving the screwdriver in to pop it out. i was hoping you wasn't going to stab thru. yikes. lol i was hoping you was going to use your wood burnisher tool, but then you grabbed the screwdriver. haha. great way to keep us on the edge of our seats

Yeah I wasn’t pushing very hard. It was suggested to round off some dowel rods. I will have to make some that way.

OLD Leather Smith here, nice job Robert. Suggestion since I make moccasins which R sewn inside out that a wood broom handle or a wood closet rod placed against floor and wall makes it easier 2 turn them right side out. GOD'S BLESSINGS ✝️🥎🙃

Great to hear from you. Yeah I need to cut a selection of dowel rods. Also the idea of keeping the rod long to allow you to brace it on the floor or such is a great idea as I think you would have more control. Thanks again. I pray that you stay well.

Dowel rods cut to size help. Round off the ends where the finger tips go.

I have sewn through 4 layers of 5 oz leather easy with my class 26. You had me cringing when you used the screw driver on it, hoping Murphy's law wouldn't strike. Wooden dowels with rounded over ends work good.

Yeah that would be a bummer to push through the leather during the end of the leather project. I have a question have you experienced that you can sew less thickness of Crome tan leather than Vegtan leather? Seems harder to sew Crome tan leather.

@@InMyBusyLittleShop the chrome tan being so much more pliable,if you don't let the glued edge set up over night, your needle tends to get gummy and wants to lift the leather. With veg tan I can glue up two pieces let them tack, stick them together and pound them down and go straight to the machine and sew.

Reminds me of the bota water bag I carried hiking and camping as a younger man. Nice bag but I wonder if the leather is a little too light?

The bots water bag was the inspiration. My wife needed a bag that fits close to her body for a trip. The leather is pretty tough. Seems pretty good. Time will tell.
