it is excellent as usual. the act that has action of pulling some thread out of mouth, guess it was like chewing gum ? I couldn't understand what it was for ?

You are right. A chewing gum in this story doesn't make much sense. In the context of this piece it looks more like a string or a hair from the floor that has stuck to one of the chocolates that fell down.
