Hey Chip, We get inta dat predicament a lot cable skiddin on steep terrain. Usually when down hill skiddin, we drive up the steep slope and turn tight around a bigger tree, but sometimes the tree slips between the wheels. Sometimes you can move the skidder and get away from it on the down hill side, but sometimes you have to knotch the tree then lay under the skidder and make the back cut to fall it.
I remember last fall when you were at the shop yard locating chains if you needed them . Good time to bring em out . Help to scratch off the slippery spots . Keep rolling !!!
Reminded me of a guy telling how his 16 year old daughter was using his car. She comes in crying 30 minutes later saying she can't get out of the garage. He goes out to find that she had his car almost sideways inside the garage. He said It took him 15 minutes to get it straightened out.
That must be productive running skidders that can’t pull themselves up a little hill in that little bit of snow and ice. Chain them girls up and feed em the coal.
I'm all for letting them try to figure it out. Yes they need to learn. However as an owner of my own logging company. Having both skidders tied up make me cringe. Let john show them how it's done then they know how to next time. Time is money in my eyes.
If not pushing that agenda too far then its okay :) here its gone too far a long time ago so nobody has no time to learn anything or even think...just working at 120% like robots is the normal around here so people burn out and mistakes gets made..a lot
We always run chains!! Not sure why that wouldn't be a normal practice in the winter regardless what tertian you operating in. Saves time and tires. Just saying. Thanks for the vid. Just keep rolling, those tires in slick wet snow.. ✌️
I was in charge of three facilities i had manager under me and 150 employees I use to tell my managers if they can't handle it give up the title I needed leaders not friends we can be friends when the productions is done, after hours. been there and done that for 30 years. yup I'm an OG and love it.
👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿 Exactly why we need strong leaders around, leadership helps employees to refine their skills. It helps employees realize their potential talent and polished their skills. It provides the opportunity to practice those skills and enhance them. It shows them the skills that they need to attain a place they inspire to get. You handle it like a boss my man.
Should have taken the free skidder, and used the blade to blade, to push the stuck one over sideways, no cable or winching needed, simple and done in minutes, without anyone getting out in the cold
biggest detail is hooking the chain or cable to something that will handle the hookup. ie the skidder you cant backdrag in is the wrong skidder to hook the cable to the blade . otherwise you learn by doing. some people learn by reading some people learn by listening to instruction. both groups benefit from peeing on the lectric fencer once in a while
Give a man a fish he eats for a day, teach a man how to fish he eats for a lifetime. As long as they are not damaging anything then they need to learn. After a bit if they are not getting it give them some pointers you did a good job I thought.
John, who is the boss, lead, most experienced been there done that he had a winch he should have gotten out without all the Tom foolery, your the boss right?
