Love that Dr. Frey is out there talking about this. I hope to contribute to this message soon as well.

Many thanks for bringing knowledge in such a simple and educational way. I can't tell you how much I have adjusted on my own training since I'd listened to your book and podcasts. I feel improvement in many areas but mostly on feeling good while training and preparing for ultras. Which is the core of everything for me anyway. Many thanks to your team and guests too. It's simply awesome. Cheers 🖖🏼

At 1:06:00 you start taking about positive/negative self talk. It reminds me of something related in my life. It used to be when winter came, I’d start complaining about the weather--don’t like the cold and snow. By February, I had the full on winter blues/seasonal depression that wasn’t relieved til spring. My wife was the same….and one fall she suggested that we absolutely ban complaining about the cold. We could THINK it….we just couldn’t SAY it. And, there was no lying to ourselves with “lying positive self talk”. Guess what? No more seasonal depression going on at least 10 years now. Neuroscientists would know better than I would…but I theorize that by thinking it only, it keeps the negativity compartmentalized to one part of the brain, but verbalizing it releases the bad thoughts to other parts of the brain that actually affect me physically. It’s a real thing….and it goes to the greater point of this podcast: the brain has a gigantic role on everything physically, and maybe we have under-rated it because we haven’t been able to have an understanding and/or an explanation.

The part about too much information being used reminded me of one of my best races. My gps watch didn't lock in before the start, so I took it off and ran by feel. I pushed harder than ever by running in the moment, with no projection.
