Since the first reincarnation of USA-made Charvels in 2008 I have always been a big fan of Charvel San Dimas' and So Cals. Growing up I was very fortunate to be a user to of Japanese and Mexican-made (2016) Charvels and have loved them so much that I have developed quite the collection over the years. For the longest time I really was beginning to think 'how do you top that?' Then in January 2018, the DK24s showed up following the release of the limited edition Super Stock DK24 in Matte Black the previous year. I had such a rush of excitement about how the Charvel product range was diversifying and evolving with subtle (not so subtle) new features including 24 frets, sculpted neck heels, deeper body contouring, a repostioned input jack and new finishes. Fusing the vintage with the modern to create high quality guitars with uncanny appeal. And now the new DK24 2pt guitars are here to do the same thing but with a more modern edge. Building on the previous DK24 range the new DK24 2pt range represents a shift forwards in the Charvel evolution. With new features borrowed from more expensive Charvel guitars in the artist range including the caramelised maple neck (although not birdseyed or flamed) from Guthrie Govan's signature model, the deeper body contouring and neck heel from the soon to be announced Angel Vivaldi signature model. Other unique features include the EVH Bournes 500k low friction volume pot and the hilariously wacky but very useful Luminlays which glow in the dark. The Gotoh 510 bridge is brillant! Despite it's traditional appearance which might send shivers down the spines of Floyd Rose users at first, it has awesome tuning stability. Once new strings have been broken in, the Gotoh 510 bridge combined with the Charvel die-cast locking tuners stays in tune just like a Floyd Rose would. All in all the new DK24s are absolutely fantastic, very high quality, tonally diverse and authentic combined with the traditonal comforts of previous Charvel models - including the rolled fingerboard edges, hand-rubbed urethane finish and a compound radius fretboard ranging from 12-16 inches. The pickups in this guitar are a Seymour Duncan Full Shred Humbucker in the Bridge, a Seymour Duncan Custom Flat Strat in the middle and another Duncan Flat Strat for the neck pickup. Every tone you could possibly need seems to be in this guitar, my favourite pickup position being position 2 (the inner coil of the neck humbucker and the middle pickup). The only thing I miss is a creamy neck humbucker, but not to worry because there is an HSH variation available also. If you get the chance, try one out and buy one. I have a feeling you'll be just as excited about them as I am.
