Inglot still has stores, mostly in malls, in Poland. in late 2000s early 2010s they went from being 'older women' type brand to expanding overseas and making products for muas rather then regular consumers. the jlo collab didn't make much noise. they made a bunch of bad business decisions and lost their footing tbh

Yes!, they started to appear at my local Walmart here in Mexico a few years ago. And they were not sold at Walmart by any means when pixiwoo was around, they used to be sold yhrough more expensive local retailers that are not even present in certain small cities around the country, and if they are, they are expensive 😆 so when I saw them at my local Walmart I was like yheiii! 🥳🎉 I can finally find them without driving to another city. They are definitely settling on being good affordable brushes and I love it 💙.

Loved this beauty chat. When you called Bobbi Brown and ABH furniture, and said they may scale back it made me think that some of those mainstay brands do seem to no longer offer full ranges everywhere. In the 90s and 2000s, you could buy everything at one makeup counter. Bobbi Brown used to do a lot palettes and eyeshadow singles; they seem to focus more on skin and lips now. Benefit used to offer more by way of eye shadows, now they specialize in a more pared down range. Just a couple examples. And perhaps these brands do offer full ranges in other countries/stores than what’s available near me.

Shipping cross border has become soooo expensive since the pandemic and with the UK since Brexit as well. Its having a major impact across all businesses. Its why a lot of retailers have stopped free delivery and free returns. Costs are just so much higher. And customs has become stricter in certain locations. Add all that to the covid 19 impacts on shopping habits in general and it was inevitable a chunk of brands in all industries would take a nose dive.

In the US, the Body Shop was heavily locked into mall real estate. Alot of incidental foot traffic because of the yummy smells emanating from the store, leading to impulse purchases. Malls declined severely with online shopping. Body Shop had a moment with their hand sanitizers, and then went down with the mall. Secondly, I think the "middle" price tier just doesn't hold with body washes and lotions. Drugstore has got much better than before, they have a captive crowd already in the store. Jouer got picked up by Beautylish and Sephora, and their makeup holds up to Chantecaille level at half the price, if people try it. Bobbi Brown limited editions still sell out, but yeah it's a nostalgia brand. Bobbi took a lot of us to Jones Road, her products there are stunning on dry, very mature skin and by mature I mean 60+, a market nobody else is targeting. The luxury clients lately are interested in Paco Rabanne and Prada, kinda the newest hot brands.

Your comment reminded me of the real hay-day of Body Shop - I don’t know when the BS started in malls, but I was a child of the 80’s and remember the buzz in that shop - they would actually have people outside getting you to come inside, a bit aggressively - with buckets of balms and “natural” products in packaging of all the colors of the rainbow - it was a sight really - but a core memory, maybe I was between 14-16, a sales guy dragged us in - he was very much a *sales man* above all else - he definitely was targeting and flirting with the ladies - he was selling bronzer - one shade - the bronzer smelled delicious to me but it was soooooooo ORANGE -- soooooo SHINY -- sooooo powdery - he kept polishing me with it (no, he didn’t ask if he could put product on us) and trying to “tan me up” - “look, look, see how much your skin glows and is so tan. You don’t even need to lay out in the sun. This will tan you exactly like the sun” - well it was the tanning era of the 80’s - but it became so very funny at some point bc it was so obvious that I was not going to look good with an orange tan; tanning wasn’t going to happen for me naturally or *unnaturally* - I looked like an orange version of the sparkly vampires of twilight I always think of *that* day when any and every bronzing product comes out now - I chuckle 😂

I totally get that you don't get at all the AVON/Natura thing 😂, but, here in Latin American countries they're both prominent and well stablished brands. Natura because is a Brazilian brand with a focus on natural and exotic ingredients from the Amazonia all around their products and AVON because they have known how to maintain their clients through the years specially because of their prices. They're both sold through brochures (and through their web pages of course) and that is a very successful bussiness model in Latin American countries, so I don't see AVON going to the bankruptcy any time sooner. Also they produce here in Latin America so that adds to the revenue and the fact that they're still profitable brands. The market on Latin American countries and the European/ Anglo-Saxon ones are quite different since the capacities 💵💰 are different 😢😅.

Real Techniques is a solid drugstore brush brand in the U.K., they’re in Boots and Superdrug, our major high street retailers in the U.K. I’m just glad Bourjois is back in the U.K. Smashbox has left the U.K. market and I can’t say I miss it. Body Shop is still going for now in the U.K., but its future is definitely iffy. I refused to purchase anything from when they went the mlm route, whilst under natura ownership, but thankfully, the new owners closed sh*t down. Stila had a bit of resurgence with Bridgerton because the cream cheek was used in Bridgerton. I hope they keep going, though because I really do like their liquid and retractable liner.

Porefessional, hula (and most of their other boxed powders), all of their mascaras. I was a Beauty Advisor for Body Shop years ago (before it even called "beauty advisor", just store crew), and I never forget my manager's advice to me. "Never put your hopes up high in this company, child. Its not a submarine, its a slow sinking ship. When opportunities arrives, be the first one to say goodbye to us." So seeing so many stores closing and the remaining stores selling stuff for low low price (70% - 85% off for hand cream, body lotion, and bath products?) is pretty crazy for me. I never thought they became so desperate that, allegedly, from a source that I wont disclose, said to me that some stores in other areas gave different rates of discounts from the others so they got a lot of sales before closing. A store near me legit was trying to sell so many stuff, even buckets of lipbalms and scrubs for 85% off, and I am talking about products that is still have long way to go before their expiration date. I used to daydream about being the person, the MUA, that would give tips and advice on the screen in the stores. I am glad that it never happen because, even our MUAs that used to be the "face" for body shop, never talk about their products anymore.

I remember seeing body shops giving out such deep discounts even 10 years or more ago - when lots of people still went to malls - and I did see different sales at different stores,- then malls became empty and I saw deep discounts online and got email every day about more and more discounts - I’ve been confused about how in the world they made money for over a decade really! Well, it was good of that manager to give you sound advice … maybe he knew something more than most
@tokki2901
@tokki2901 Месяц назад
@@vwiccy yeah, thats the first reason why I was interested to work in Body Shop, because of the discounts, it just made me think that they are trying to make their product affordable (because Indonesia is 3rd world country and even tho body shop price is not "expensive" on other countries, in here it is pretty expensive). And back then, they usually have a lot more sales for products that are not new, or simple products on their line like balms, hand sanitizer, body lotion, etc. And things like skincare, makeup, tools, and perfume were never have big discounts or if they were discounted, it came in a pack so we cant just buy one, or you can get deals on your birthday. These days, I even see their tea tree oil get 30% discount, which is considered a cult classic item and were never discounted over 10% before. Thats wild to me.

I was a manager for The Body Shop for years, back when the Australian branch was still owned by the Wise Foundation. I saw the handover to Loreal and that was the beginning of the end for me. Definitely the push I needed to get out of retail and change careers. We saw some really innovative skin care come through, would create huge buzz with our loyal customers (I was in a prominent city location) and when the actual launch would hit, received very little product and couldn't sustain the sales. Still expected to meet our sales targets though! The availability of stock continued to decline and we couldn't keep up with our basic best sellers. It was insanely stressful as a store manager, placating customers and trying to boost staff morale. So glad I got out when I did.

I love Beauty Blenders. They last so much longer than any sponges I have bought and they are easy to clean. They recommend changing it every 6 months (I think) but I could easily use one for a year without problem. They are absolutely amazing to use with powder too. Sadly they never considered making different shapes, just colours. I keep waiting for the day they release something with a flat surface. They could even have made triangle sponges, but never did. I have used their setting powder and that stuff is really good too. However, everyone wants to try new things and brand. The biggest reason I stopped buying beauty blenders or blenders of any kind is because I use my hands to apply foundation. It is less waste - water and soap, when it comes to cleaning.

I kind of have this theory that all these brands were watching y'all two with beauty news to decide their next moves, and when y'all disappeared they all freaked out and didn't know how to run their companies, and that's the real reason for all the closures

That’s so interesting, thank you ❤ it’s sad how so many brands are gone or almost dead from bad business decisions. I’ve been a beauty junkie since the 90’s, so I’ve seen a few come and go. It always makes me sad when a previously superstar brand just dies a slow death. I went from being Sephora Rouge every year for the past 10 years to spending a grand total of 75 dollars at Sephora last year. All the brands I love are out of Sephora, and they’ve been replaced by scammy ‘clean’ brands and celebrity makeup/skincare lines. I still buy from my favorites like Perricone MD, Viseart and Pat McGrath but directly from their websites instead of Sephora; the sales are so much better than Sephora ever had anyway. I don’t see myself being Sephora Rouge in the future, that time has passed for me. And at the same time I have a lot of powder based makeup that’s still perfectly good, so I don’t need to buy as much. Also drugstore makeup has gotten so much better now it’s much harder to see any difference. I sold my Tati palette, it sucked tbh. At least I made double my money back😂. The color scheme was weird and the shadows were inconsistent. Premium eyeshadow brands are a million times better than that palette. I was a Tati fan back then (not anymore) and really tried to make it work but it was so patchy.

I bought the Robert Welsh/Ciaté box, love Everything in it except the mascara, it's okay but not outstanding. The highlighter stick is great on my Victorian ghost complexion, probably too subtle for a lot of people. The eyeshadow palette is the neutral I use most often.

Omg, I went onto the ABH website and realized they made a 6th Norvina palette 🤣. But I'd consider myself an ABH quiet consumer. I love their foundation and their cream bronzer. I'm sure many people are hooked on their brow products. I'm not really sure who's buying their new palette releases tho - as if anyone buying ABH doesn't have a stack of at least 20 eyeshadow palettes already.

I love Real Techniques and nearly all my brush collection is RT brand. For the average (US) makeup user who doesn't want to invest a fortune in a brush set and might not have access to Sephora or even Ulta, they really hit the sweet spot between price point and quality. And while Sam/Nic are no longer the face of the brand, they still regularly use them in their YT/Instagram content. I don't have anything by Stila at the moment, but I have fond memories of their (cardboard packaged) eye shadow palettes that came with an eyeliner. It was the first "fancy" shadow palette I ever bought and their eyeliner was the first I found that didn't smudge on my oily lids. I would buy another one of those palettes in a heartbeat if they put them out again ❤

I love Bobbi Brown products. When it comes to wearable, flattering, high-quality makeup for work and everyday life, they're excellent. I definitely think there's a quiet consumer situation with Bobbi Brown. People don't post their Bobbi Brown lewks online, they wear them to the office, the park, or a dinner party. I don't think Bobbi Brown's going anywhere.

I love Smashbox, their foundation (hydrating) is amazing for oily skin, and they have light olive shades too. One of my favourite. And their matte lipsticks were ahead of time, very nice formula. Nothing near new Nars release, I think they could have made it better and re release it. Mascara is also amazing. Not to mention eyeshadow primer and cream eyeshadows in a tube. The best thing ever for oily skin 😅
