@@gizmonovack The colors on the restored are less contrasted which may be a bit more accurate but also loses some of the character and warmth . It comes off as a bit more washed out and not nearly as eye-catching in my opinion.
And yet also in a way wrong by a personal level because Robert (the master) came back in the next 4 days to came back for the 5 appliances (because they're still practical and useful and likely last for who knows for how long). As he did restore the air conditioner and test the functions before he left.
In the parts where the camera is behind the appliances looking up at the air conditioner, you can see that they're just floating. Especially noticeable on Kirby, there is no visible floor yet he seems to be sitting in midair. I never noticed this before and it's much easier to spot in the restored version.

Been watching clips of this film to take my mind off of current events. Both this film and Toy Story really made audiences learn how powerless inanimate objects were when indoors or outdoors and how human and alive said objects could be. If I could make a Lord of the Rings analogy, Toaster and the crew would be The Fellowship of the Master. For Dragon Ball fans, Air Conditioner was totally channeling Vegeta during his last words. Now imagine if he was completely mobile-the cottage would be in ruins, at least.

Day as Blanket Thurl Ravenscroft (aka Tony the Tiger, aka "You're A Mean One, Mr. Grinch") as Kirby Phil Hartman (aka Troy McClure, aka News Radio) as Air Conditioner Jon Lovitz (Saturday Night Live and many more) as Radio I'm kind of mixed as to which one I like better, the original or the PAL restoration. The PAL's frames are more stable, not dancing around like the NTSC original. The NTSC has a bit better color match in some spots, but there also is some color correction in the PAL as well. The PAL standard does offer more lines of resolution overall and less flicker than on the NTSC original. I don't know; you decide.
With the vents looking like his bushy eyebrows and moustache, you'd think he would have a old man's voice, but nope. His voice sounds way too young to match his appearance.
God, this scene is so good You're on toaster and the gang's side at first because they are just trying to hold onto whatever little hope they got while AC lost that hope long ago But then, at the end, right after kirby utters, "Because you're stuck in the wall!" You can tell he struck a nerve so deep. He literally killed himself in his anger. And it wasn't on purpose. AC just wanted to feel appreciated. This may have been made for kids, but it was for everyone. Thank you Jerry Rees
the restored version kind of looks better with this scene, but for the other scenes that are compared, the original versions are better imo because they have a lot more depth. Whether it's intentional or not.
you know, if the Air Conditioner kept his cool, so to speak, he probably would have said this: "Oh yeah, sure. Make fun of the fact that I'm wedged i this window, I don't care. Maybe I can't move around like the rest of you, but I'm just as important."
I'm surprised no one edited out a clip of the air conditioner saying "metal time" and used it as a meme or an intro for some podcast or radio show about heavy metal music or something. Maybe distort the voice to sound all kinds of weird and different ways when he says it.
Colours look better but if you actually saw each on a dvd and compared them, you'd see that the original looks really bad, like it's a VHS tape, and a lot of detail was lost. The restored is from the original film negative that the movie was recorded onto, revealing all that lost detail.
I personally love the old NTSC version. It's what I remember, nice - and slightly shaky - 35mm. Although the PAL version is essentially the best copy of the 35mm, but the speed is slightly faster. However I could be wrong but there's an upload of the PAL version on RU-vid and it's slightly sped up.
I never realized he committed suicide in this scene until I rediscovered this movie a few days ago lmao. Last time I watched this movie I was around 5-6. I feel so bad for laughing at it now

OK, so the image on the left is taken from a laserdisc and then transferred to a DVD. The image on the right is taken straight from the original master, so why do people like the left?
As a kid from a broken home I completely understood what the AC was saying...and as an adult the fact that I knew the ac was right at such a young age makes me sad.
Well 7 frames is a second and adobe is about to be your best friend. Id look at how Brain Dump animates his stuff. Itd make the appliances look like they could talk in a trippy way. He made a vid on it.
@@MayMay-qr1yc Do you think I could do it with Davinci Resolve? Premier pro is to expensive and you have to keep paying for it every month to keep it. But I don't know what other programs I could use to superimpose my face onto the appliances, though. I was thinking something like the annoying orange type of effect. But I don't know what other cheap or free programs you can do that on besides Blender, and that's way to hard to learn.
@@joshuagross3151 Oh, it definitely won't be for little kids. It's probably going to be pretty creepy looking with real appliances. I'm about 1/3 of the way through doing the B Movie song scene, which is what I'm doing. I did put googly eyes on them, though, so maybe it's more silly looking than anything.
