Charlamagne was 100% correct. Stop wishing things were different and live in reality. If you have, stay away from the have nots. Flexing that you're in the hood is never the correct choice.
Angela Yee is right. A lot of times these guys in the streets arent starving or desperate. They just want to live the street life and want the clout from being known to be in the streets. That’s why as a culture we have to stop embracing the streets and folks in the streets so much. RIP to PnP Rock
Exactly! I been saying this smh these ppl aren’t doing this on a survival mentality, it’s literally to flex & get some clout. Killing ppl for clout is a real thing now smh
@@RealisticWonderKid it ain’t all about money. Plenty of people join gangs and brag about crimes they’ve committed for reputation and clout. You just naive if you don’t know that.
My brother and I were having a conversation like this a month ago after someone went into his truck and tossed all his stuff around looking for something to steal. They didn’t break any windows, he left his door unlocked. He says he should be able to leave his doors unlocked if he wants to because he worked hard for his stuff, but I told him, that’s true, you SHOULD be able to, but that’s not the reality we live in fam.
You SHOULD be able to flap your arms and fly or fart and go to Mars and back safely. Unfortunately, the laws of physics disagree. Criminology ain't physics, but I'm pretty sure it has a pretty relevant branch called Victimology.
Tons of black men and women made out the roughest sections of Philly. They went to school got thier education and left. It's more successful black men and women other than Rappers and Athletes. But the black community doesn't celebrate this.
Its really easy to blame the jewelry or blame gf or blame social media. There’s alot that can be said but I think people underestimate the moral corruption that is developing among ppl. It’s people out here knocking old ladies in the head with hammers in the subway for a purse that may or may not have money in it. Senseless violence is at an all time high because ppl have NO EMPATHY
This why I work hard so I can live in a nice neighborhood in a nice house that's really comfortable inside so I can stay inside and stay away from the crazies.
Well, unlike our community, when they leave a bad or messed up situation or environment they dip and don’t look back. They don’t feel a sense of obligation or need to “Be with their people in the hood.”. I remember the Game a couple years back talked about the moment that made him say “f*** this, I’m out!!!” And leave his hood. He said a drive by happened (I think he was the target even) and although he was ok, that shit hit his kid’s car seat dead in the headrest. SMH, he was hella lucky but that shouldn’t have been the reason. Mind you, this happened when the Game started poppin during “The Documentary” days… Take the world as it is not as you’d like it to be, PERIOD!!!
As a youth, I used to live in Long Beach across the street from the milk dairy on California Street, known now as MLK, St. I currently live in The Valley/Los Angeles area. I don't wear jewelry in certain places because I want to live. PNB Rock was in a "VERY BAD" area, which is considered the Belly of the Beast. Also, I grew up in Long Beach, by Kings Park, down the street from Snoop, The Twins, and Warren G. I was never afraid of the gang members back in my day. Actually, they were a form of protection for me. But, this is a differnet world now. We have to make better decisions and strategic moves with efforts to stay safe, and that pertains to where ever you live or go. I am in agreement with Charlmagne and his PERSPECTIVE ON THIS ISSUE IS ABSOLUTELY CORRECT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My prayers and condolences goes to his two little girls, friends, fans and family. Rest in peace, Rock. This situation is beyond pathetic and so sad. I am so tired of this. We should be able to move around as we please, where what we want. But living here in LA myself, I learned from an early age where to wear what. Hip Hop was defined as Peace Unity Love and Having Fun. These wicked record labels saw us coming together because of it. Gangsta Rap was formed, glorifying the disrespect of our women, smoking your brother and so here we are. BUT THAT WAS NOT THE START OF HIP HOP. We spoke of what was going on in our communities. We corrected each other, supported each other.
The older I get, the more I realize that this world keeps getting worse!! Losing him like that is simply wrong! You can't have anything without people coming for what you've worked so hard for
You trippin. Americans use to get payed for skinning the scalps of native Americans. And that’s just one small example of violence in America. Violence is the lowest it’s ever been amongst people in the American land.
The world has gotten a lot better tbh.. There was a lot more barbaric stuff back in the day.. Just take the Romans for instance.. Along with having cures to diseases and more food.. That couldn't be the farthest thing from the truth to be honest but I do see what you're trying to say
I recall one brother saying..."if you got it and I don't, somebody is not making it home." It was the most asinine, ignorant, pathetic cluster of words I've ever heard. Actually it infuriated me! Instead of going through the trials and tribulations of getting off your ass and work, you rather take from others.
And just to think, as an evolved species, we live in an environment full of primal scenarios, motivations and actions... It's not race, it's not culture, it's primal ignorance with a core of pure evolved wickedness...
This been going on since forever people walk around like they invincible and just because they have they gun think they safe majority of time it's 2 or 3 guys that attack you so this is why it's so important to have security
rappers are being targeted and set up. The girl he was with sent out her location on her phone. When she did that they knew where she was. In LA rappers are being targeted are being robbed. They killed this guy for his rings. They immediately showed up after she posted the photo. THIS B IS IN ON IT. They should have taken her phone because I believe the killers number is probably on it.
Why do Envy KEEP GOING BACK to what you SHOULD be able to do in the hood with your jewelry etc. Yes, we get what we SHOULD be able to do. The issue is what Charlemagne is saying. Let’s deal with the way it actually is NOW and not what we’d like it to be.
Amen! I really don't get why he wants to floss in front of people who are starving. It's common sense that even animals have. They don't go where danger is
Because this isn't just happening in the hood, because rappers getting killed for chains isn't the issue. Regular people are getting killed for nothing. Donkey of the day a few weeks ago went to a man that killed another man because his momma got cold fries from Mickey Ds. Like what??? Even if say a jewelry shouldn't be worn in the hood, you can't act like killing people at their place of employment is okay
@@adamantinerebelle7578 It’s legendary that a black man made it out of the hood to make away for his family. I’m from Philly, the rough parts And to see a young man come from where I’m from to make a way to feed his family is legendary for me.
I agree with him to a degree. I don’t like how he automatically jumps to the systemic poverty thing. He doesn’t know what those people’s motives were. I agree there’s is poverty that causes crime but so do just regular evil people.
@@mars8923 Exactly. Even Charlemagne's solutions of "just hiring security" only perpetrates the problems and worsens the divide. Hiring security is not the solution. We’ll they are praising gold over god, also almost every rapper that got smoked have been wearing the star ring, same ring pac wore when robbed and shot at quad. If these rappers were so hood and street smart, they would know not to go to south central LA especially if they mot from there
with this whole Black Lives Matter trend be glad in 2003 my hispanic female rap musician friend did not reveal this same information that people are using as an excuse to commit recent Anarchy. What does this have to do with PNB rock death? This society makes it seem like it is a black-on-black crime but a lot of times many shady white people and hispanic do be studying blacks who appear successful or getting by only to sabotage them. A friend of mine who's African American and lives in Portland, Oregon collects bottles and cans for $$$ with each can, plastic, or glass bottle costing 0.10c a piece to cash in. Since he was doing it for 10 years he's had mostly white people question him sometimes even attempted to attack him over it. He witness many whites recycle to make money and there were never any problems until he started collecting and recycling. Just remember the white people were the ones studying these probably black teenagers on youtube and social media shaking their asses until they came across the Twerk team and took that name and now a person shaking their ass is now a big thing. Remember blacks do not own mainstream media and Bill Cosby began suffering his troubles when he attempted to buy CBS. I swear people do not get it when it comes to true current racism.

I agree with everybody. A rapper with money SHOULD be able to go wherever they want and not be touched BUT that’s not the reality of really anybody not just rich people. People should be able to post their location and not come back to find their house robbed BUT that’s not our reality. Sadly. Our community needs therapy, help and guidance. This was so unnecessary.
Most rappers are former drug dealers and former gang bangers. Most rappers rap about killing and dying. Rappers dying is not something you can stop or control.
I’m with Charlemagne 100%. Even with the systemic oppression tactics in place, you just have to move accordingly given this harsh reality. There’s no, it shouldn’t be this and that…IT IS THIS AND THAT and that’s all one needs to know to move right. If you wanna be truly FREE, the rap lifestyle and luxuries that comes with it is not part of God’s Law and neither is jewelry. There is a grey area but it seems only artists like J. Cole knows how to operate within it. Change will happen when we stop glorifying the wrong things.
Stop blaming poverty. There’s a lot of poor people who work hard, level up and get comfortable. These dummies gonna flip the chain and buy rims and ball out at the club for a night. Let’s be real.
This is our culture. Accept it because we glorify the silliest thing in our culture. We support no snitching, killing, robbing, codeine, drug dealing, womanizing. We call it art though and freedom of expression.
And see, some of us as a people don’t wanna accept it. All this rhetoric will go out the window the next rap song that comes on the radio. Charla talking about systematic racism is only half the problem. A lack of accountability is the other half.
@Illuminati Tv as I stated, it's not what you do but how you do it . The duality of life is how you move in society will either make or break you... your choice.
Sigh. We need to start having discussion in our community and start holding ourselves accountable. I know the white man is the easiest to blame(and most justifiably) but we gotta start being responsible for shit going on in our community. Shit is sad. And I don't wanna hear about I'm a coon or whatever. That's an easy out and easiest way to avoid REAL discussion. Idgaf about what white people are doing, I care about MY community. This will continue to happen and at some point we can't deflect the blame. There's other things white people have done to the black community but this disruptive behaviors is OUR responsibility. I'm tired
Most corruption and crime in society is top-down. Whenever folks begin to talk about the crimes of the poor and oppressed in a society, they have to start by looking at the top and the system in which it operates. We live in a society that provokes crime (i.e. capitalism). Everything is working as it was designed. In a perfect world, all gang members and street criminals would have the spirit of our revolutionary ancestor George Jackson but that's not where we are. Unfortunately, Black criminality in its current state often serves two purposes: 1) Communal repression - Black predatory behavior targeted towards other oppressed people helps to prevent any type of awakening or uprising that would be otherwise targeted towards the oppressor ruling class. 2) Protective stereotyping - the true criminals (oppressors, ruling class, racists, Black misleadership class, etc.) can absolve themselves of their crimes by simply pointing at all the criminal shit going on in the poor and oppressed communities. This happens all the time which is how the "black-on-black crime" term came to be. Amos Wilson broke this all down in his book, Black-On-Black Violence: The Psychodynamics of Black Self-Annihilation in Service of White Domination. It's dense but it's a good read if you can get through it. Post Traumatic Slave Syndrome by Joy DeGruy Leary is another good read.
Charlemagne has a point but unfortunately we’ve seen you can get killed in your own neighborhood even if you’re just trying to give back and not flaunt your wealth, we have to address the bigger issue in our communities
When you think about it, Charla’s point almost sounds like we shouldn’t be offended when white women clutch onto their purses when black ppl walk by or locking their car doors when we walk past or keep loss provention on us in the stores…

It also hasn’t even been confirmed that the shooter was watching his girlfriend’s page. I don’t understand how she’s getting more hatred than the ACTUAL shooter, there’s no justifying that.
Never an excuse for anyone take someone’s life or harm them for something that isn’t yours period. You can understand it all you want but that has to stop. That 3rd caller in the first segment was correct, we can’t keep blaming “systemic” issues, this is a cultural problem. Pop smoke was at his house in the suburbs and got killed in his own home. There is opportunity out there, people need to seek it.
I agree with Charla, but you're absolutely right, that 3rd caller was correct too... and Charla kinda dismissed his point. Yes, we have been put at a disadvantage systematically, but there are also plenty of opportunities that we did not have in the past that are very much so available today. We cannot simply continue blame this on the system. It's just that a lot of people don't want to work for it, and see it as easier to just take it from the next person. I know many people, raised in poverty, who overcame hurdles to make it out. It starts with education. Tell these kids the truth... not everybody can be a millionaire, live in a mansion, and have nice cars... Not everyone can be a rapper or an athlete. Kill the jealousy and envy at young... and stop the idolization of celebrities, and social media stars. This is causing the drive for them to steal what they THINK they can't have or work for. Also, a lot of mainstream rap glorifies violence, but no one wants to talk about that part. These stations will continue to play these peoples music, and they still get bookings to do shows etc. Then we have to continuously have conversations like this... surrounding X rappers death. It's a vicious cycle that won't end.
one of the few comments on here telling the truth, but nobody wants to be held accountable. they don't mind pretending this is ok and saying "rip" every week when another rapper is gunned down in cold blood.
Charlamagne and DJ Envy both made valid points from similar but different perspectives. So sick of all the evil in this world. That’s basically all it is is demons and our people being controlled by em.
I just think it's extremely dangerous to live based on how things should be without accepting the reality of how things are. This is one of the main things I struggle with in raising my children, especially in/around hip hop culture. I tried to inject them with all the principles, morals, and responsibilities of being a good, hard working, upstanding person in this world; however, IT IS IMPERATIVE that I make sure they understand not everyone thinks like this and that there is constant danger they must be aware of. We can talk until we're blue in the face about how things should be and how people should be, but if we don't acknowledge, accept, and prepare for how things are, we won't survive. So for everyone out there try to have balance and I wish you good luck.
I agree with you and Charla. I think Envy needs to hear it in the perspective of a father to understand better, because I'm sure he's very protective of his girls. For example, when sharing pictures of my daughter online, or even something as simple as going to the beach... I make sure she is covered up, and age appropriate... because although we say to ourselves that no one should be looking at our kids in a sexual manner, that is not the unfortunate reality. So we take certain steps to protect them. Don't simply look at things for the way we wish it could be, but how it actually is. Be PROACTIVE.
Charlamagne was on point with everything he said. If you buy flashy things, you gotta protect it, and if you can't protect it don't buy it. I also agree with DJ envy. If you work hard for what you got, you should be able to do and go wherever you want. But unfortunately things changed and people changed over time and over the years.
Things have not changed l. Check this out If you were flossing '93 Ford mustang 5.0, wearing gold chains you will be jacked at a Burger King. If you were gotti in the sixties you will be jacked by junkie for that Blue Magic. If you wore nice clothes and had a chest on a stagecoach you will get robbed by bandits and that's many places in the world
Why do we even have this type of conversation anymore? We stay doing this every time a rapper dies yet black on black killings are higher than they ever has been in the history of our existence. This conversation isn’t getting heard by the killers at all
LA native here! To everyone visiting famous or not famous - This is not the time to come out here and venture out by yourself like that. If you’re not from here don’t go roaming around the city with no security. There are like 3 Roscoe’s in LA and nobody goes to the one he was at. I agree with Charlamgne’s point however, we do have a cultural problem and people should be able to go wherever they want and have lunch with their girl and not fear for their life. What happened to rock is old tall tail that happens in my city everyday. At this point the systematic excuse is old and people today have resources to choose to do something different. There’s a lot of jobs and resources out there but people don’t want to work! They see a false perception on social media and rather find a quicker way to get money. Don’t let the palm trees and sunshine fool you! They’re both right. Envy is right in theory. Charlamagne is right in practice. I legally paid for it, I should be able to wear it any and everywhere. Also… I should be aware that in some places, people will try to take my shit illegally, and I could lose my life over this shit… so I should either plan for that (security), or move differently (stay out the hood)
Issue is he was in South Central. It’s littered with gang members and gang members family working in places like Roscoe’s. Same as they are working in the 5 star hotels, valets, restaurants, bars, etc. A quick call. They are being followed from their hotels, homes and back to their hotels and homes. So she may have posted but they wolves already knew he was there as soon as he got out of the car.
One of the most realest topics I've seen on here fr. I've watched this twice now. It's the fact that a chain is worth more than a life. I agree with envy and the 2nd caller. As a black lady who has also experienced injustice, i say enough with the victim mindset. “We are like this because of systemic oppression.” Every single person born in the same environment behaves and thinks the same way? No! We are like this because we choose to be. We listen to music that glorifies murder and robbery. These young men have been led astray for many years by any rapper that went on the mic to make this cool. I feel so sad about what happened to PnB. We shouldn’t accept this reality . We should increase the standard. We are no longer accepting this is our culture. What will change our community is not democratic policies, handouts or healing energy. We need fathers and family units. May the peace of God be with his family and may God have mercy on us for how we treat each other.

Honestly Charlemagne hit the nail on the head with that one, I grew up in a city where ppl loved buying nice stuff but my hometown is super ghetto, never go there if you've never been there before bc you'll more than likely get robbed first night there, if you're not from there you'll almost for sures get robbed. Especially if you've got a chain and other fancy shit on somebody and their homies are going to see it and pull up on you, not even having anything one day Sophomore year of high school I got a gun pulled on me, I didn't have anything on me worth taking either. So I agree mostly with Charlemagne on it, if you can't afford to protect it you can't afford to wear it. Also at the same time both of them should've never posted their location, especially knowing thousands of people were going to see it right away. And also yeah I've had my own experience seeing somebody with fancy stuff at my hometown get robbed literally right after bringing it back, sorry New Mexico doesn't have anything fancy ngl. But anyways remember to never wear your chains and stuff out in public because your literally just asking to be robbed at gun point, and if you're the kinda person who won't give it up, be ready to give up your life for it because you kinda did put yourself in that position.
6:32 I'm so GLAD Angela Yee is LEAVING TBC. She has always attempted to make pointless points. Opening a Juice Bar in the 'hood is inspiring. Driving a Bentley into a 'hood full of people living just above or on the poverty line, does not inspire, it may ENRAGE. Because many of them WISH it was them. **People like Envy really need to evolve. He's arguing with Charlemagne but with every breath he's sounding more and more like an idiot.** **Envy, if you want to wear your overpriced jewelry and drive your look-at-me cars, then DO IT AMONGST YOUR PEERS!** **You are TESTING YOUR FATE, when you insist on wearing your expensive jewelry in areas where your chain is equivalent to 5 years of their salary. IF they have one!**
It feels so wrong losing him like this😔 it makes no sense. When I first heard the news I prayed he would make it through. 🙏🏾 I hope he can Rest in Peace.. PnB🕊💔💔💐
