I remember being so overjoyed and excited to see LEGO Harry Potter return to store shelves back in 2018. There was a time when i thought this theme was gone for good, but it made quite a magical comeback. We got wonderful new hairpieces, new Minifigures of characters we haven't seen before, a new wand mold, and of course updated and detailed sets of beloved locations that continue to blow my mind. We're even getting Advent Calendars for Hogwarts, I mean, I don't buy these advent calender sets, but that's basically a strong medal of honor for LEGO.
@@MyBrickOpinions yo, same I would circle them like if it was a Christmas list, I had the impression that you could get the old sets on shelves somewhere. No wonder my mother couldn’t find any of those.
This was a great video, and I appreciate it greatly! Growing up, I was a huge Harry Potter fan as well as loved Legos and when those initial sets were made in 2001 I had almost all of them. But then they began to stop making Harry Potter sets and I noticed it. But it sort of went hand-in-hand for myself as I was becoming a teenager and was more interested in things like video games and driving. So now that they’ve begun to re-make Harry Potter Lego sets, I’m unashamed to say that I’ve bought almost all over them. I truly believe that it’s because it allows me to reconnect with my childhood, my love for legos, and takes me back to a simpler time in my life. Thank you for making this video.
Wow, I really love your video style, you explained the history of the brand and theme so fluently. I was never a fan of the brand personally, but I do have nostalgia for the older early 2000’s and mid 2010’s, so watching this was a treat. If you ever do plan making another video to the series, the rise and fall of Lego Indiana Jones would be an instant watch for me. My heart aches for all the scenes and sets we never got for that theme. RIP Indiana Jones.
Indiana Jones is definitely in my plans, specially with all the conversation it had online in the late 2000s, I’m just waiting on the current sets to retire so the story can have a “conclusion”
Hey ! I enjoy all of your videos, but this time i really had to write how much i enjoyed this one ! I wanted to see something like this and you exceeded my expectations, this video is perfect ! Really a nice moment, i learned a ton of stuff and experienced a ton of nostalgia haha Anyway thank you for making this and all your other videos, this is great. I actually watched the video twice !
This was an excellent video. I never got the opportunity to get any of the older HP sets, I was so desperate that I printed out thr mini figures torso designs and faces and taped them to my pre-existing figures lol. I remember being so incredibly excited by the reveal of the 2018 great hall. Can’t believe that was already 6 years ago. This video helped me relive some of those memories and also reminded myself of the impact of Lego Harry Potter on me personally. Thanks for the vid and keep making more!
I had one set before 2018 which was the night bus. But I also had a book that I loved to look through. And it had this AWESOME timeline of every set through the years. This is like seeing that but you go into more detail and explanation. 😁
My first ever lego set was the 4 privet drive from the chamber of secrets wave in 2002 - I've been an avid collector ever since and had almost all of the harry potter sets from the first 4 films. Whilst I eventually ended up collecting a larger lego star wars collection and selling most of my harry potter sets, I've still never sold the 4 privet drive set ❤
I never owned any Harry Potter sets from before the mid-2000s, though I do remember the daughter of someone my mom was friends with having a decent array of them when we visited her in July of 2004. Though I'm not sure as to which particular sets she had, and no photos of that encounter appear to survive today.
Imagine how weird it will be when they finally make the HP series, and we will get tons of merch, including Lego, without Daniel, Emma and Rupert on the cover
I was just thinking about that this morning, cause that future isn’t too far away. 2026-2027 damn, this new castle system might be the last Harry Potter from the movies in awhile
I said this exact same thing on a lego harry potter group and so many people said that they think lego will keep making stuff based on the movie with Dan, Emma and Rupert on it and not the show. But I do think this new castle system is the last one, and that's why Lego is calling it the most detailed Hogwarts
I'm surprised to find out the info on The Chamber of Secrets being lower. My guess is that there was a lot of merchandise that year, and that was only part. Plus the success of other LEGO themes. That year; 2002 has to be my favourite wave. We get a mix of the castle bits, and outdoor bits like Quiddich, Privet Drive and Aragog. It was also based on an explosive movie with lots of big setpieces, so I feel was the easiest to reenact with the sets you got. The Prisoner of Azkaban sets are well made as well, but that movie is more about atmosphere, characters and the environment, rather than big explosive scenes using buildings, monsters etc. . You can easily have werewolf Lupin and The Grim fight eachother, but that's just the figures.
Cant believe we all completely forget about cool ass lego duplo themes. Like bob the builder and thomas. Like these would be such cool themes as normal lego sets.
When Lego brought back Harry Potter in 2018 I know it has to do that like you said that the new, Harry Potter film Propac nostalgia you could see with other companies to this whole wave of merchandise being made for Harry Potter and making Harry Potter a brand more than it was before and you can see that with some of the packaging with the white background with the texts on it you saw that everywhere with Harry Potter merchandise everywhere, and just like every company did taking advantage of that, so did Lego. but as you said, in the video to other companies following the new popularity of Harry Potter a lot of them overtime did not do so good but I wonder if the reason why Lego Harry Potter is the one that sticks out from it all has to do with the times that like you didn’t make Harry Potter but what’s different with the newer one is that how accurate and better than sets are compared to the ones of the past. That’s one reason why I got them. I grew up with the series and when I saw that they were coming out I was ecstatic at how accurate and a lot of the things include it were things that were not even made or done before in the previous Harry Potter iterations. in fact, I have the whole first wave of the new Harry Potter sets when they released in 2018 for the other waves, though I am missing a couple here and there
I have the Neca figures! Sadly the better Popco figures were made exclusive to the UK. I loved the Lego sets but they were never affordable, at least for us. I had a few as a kid but never the castle. I did have, however, quite a few Harry Potter figures.
I hate the 2024 wave because i have most the lego harry potter sets from 2018-2022 but i just stopped because i haven't got enough room but every time I see this wave i want them all thay look so good 2023 and 4 have some really good sets but i can pass on most l look at this year and its just so good
Man I loved those first waves of Harry Potter. When they still used yellow skinned figures for licensed themes the world of LEGO Harry Potter felt more whimsical and magical than it does now to me. :)
Annoyed at how you always argue from the point of view of the financial benefit to the company instead of the quality and affordability of the sets to the consumer. "Fans were mad, but this was actually a good thing because the company made money"
Like to put in another way, product designers we have to please the company we work for but we’re also in charged of pleasing the consumer, with brick failure I always put myself into the designer shoes, because that’s how I understand failure and learn from it for my own projects.
