With unprecedented access to Britain’s busiest legal aid practice, The Briefs takes us into the cut-throat world of criminal law. The Briefs follows the skilful lawyers of Tuckers in Manchester, as they look after their clients on cases ranging from blackmail to murder. The lawyers cover everything from taking on a case where a 63 year old woman is accused of drug dealing to a poet accused of benefit fraud. This is how justice really works.

@@tophatproductions3031 I have never understood why some people refuse to listen to their solicitors. I think it stems from the fact people just want to avoid any negative outcome at all costs when it's often better to perform damage mitigation instead of trying to get away scott free, even if it means prison. It's much better to plea guilty for a guaranteed prison sentence of 12 months instead of a 95% chance of two years of more for a not guilty plea.

How much of that goes to defending these yobs who get told by these lawyers to say no comment and they walk out the door back to do what they do best.

Maybe the low IQ correlation is actually better aligned with poverty rather to criminality and... with poverty comes poor schooling, poor health, few opprotunities, lack of hope and many *_young and mentally unhealthy_* impoverished kids tend to think "why should you have so much when I have so little?" And that leads to take crimes witnessed in the doc.. with the exception of pedo's and rapists 😠 Either way we need to find a way to fix the thinking of these kids *_OR_* it will only get worse as the gap between rich and poor grows.

Idk but with how some of these cases can go bad as many stalking cases its crazy they messed up on this one and the victim should be able to sue over it .

Babylon Central top band. I used to own their singles on tape... when Karmacoma came out I almost wet my pants, what a tune, Live With Me was and is one of my favourite tracks ever. Teardrop from Mezzanine is beautiful and even tho the video they made to accompany it was a little bizarre at first glance it is still up there as one of the greatest of the 90’s.

11:00 We need English subtiitles for people who speak English. Don't bother with the [CC] captions..."So I finished work think it was about five o'clock Thursday, goes to the local pub, goes home, starts making tea..." gets translated as "Then so I think those day caught some local folks on a few things goes on started make the teaser..." And it took me five tries to get his spoken words correct...and I'm still not sure about some of those.

Back in 1983, on my way to work I got a $15 summons in NYC for jumping the turnstile at a subway station. It wasn't true bc I had bought enough tokens the night before to last me a week but a police officer thought otherwise. I decided to fight the case so when I went to court the judge asked me: "guilty or innocent?" to which I said innocent. He then directed me to another room where I was told that in order to fight the case I would need to hire an attorney which in my mind meant paying a whole lot of money that I didn't have so I went back to the judge and told him I would rather pay the $15 fine and get it over with. Had I known anything about public defenders at the time I would've fought that case bc I knew I was innocent. Throughout the yrs I've heard police officers are assigned quotas of tickets to give by their superiors in order to bring in revenue to the dept so I guess I was just another innocent victim in the wrong place at the wrong time. If I'm not mistaken I still have a copy of the receipt of the ticket I paid that day.
