As some of you know, back in the day I used to work for the History Channel... until they started making programmes that didn't have that much to do with history. So I set up my own channel here and began making the kind of history videos I wanted to watch, and that I hope a lot of you guys will also find interesting. It's still a bit of an experiment, but if you like what I do, you can really help the channel grow just by clicking the like and subscribe buttons (also hit the bell next to the subscribe button to get notifications about new videos), and sharing them with every other history lover you know! And if you're feeling really generous, any little contribution on Patreon really helps keep this show on the road... www.patreon.com/epichistorytv Thanks for reading, hope you enjoy the videos. Toby

Thank you P.S. I've noticed there aren't many documentaries about the Austrian succesion war, especially focussed on Frederick the Great's conquest of Silesia. Just a thought.

Judging from this video, it looks as though Nasser had a point. The Suez Canal was built with Egyptian labor. Many laborers died (presumably because of poor working conditions). Nasser was not saying that British or French ships couldn't go through. He was just saying that, from then on, Egypt would manage the passage-way. (Egypt did pay for it with their blood.)
@baidon3613
@baidon3613 3 года назад
Not only the allies didn't apologize for stealing Egyptian wealth and killing thousands in the process, but they even refused Nasser's offer to be fully paid for their shares in the canal! btw till this day UK refuses to pay their debt to egypt for borrowing money in 1944 which was 400 m pounds!

Fun fact, years later Eisenhower said that forcing the UK and France to back off was his greatest diplomatic mistake because he had just stabbed his allies in the back to curry favour with the Egyptian dictator and the man aligned himself with the Soviet Union anyway.
@burningphoneix
@burningphoneix 6 лет назад
He aligned himself with the Soviet Union because America's allies attacked him for exercising his right to nationalize the Canal. Not to mention the USSR later funded the construction of the Aswan Dam, which the US withdrew funding for in a hissy fit to protect Israel.
@MahsaKaerra
@MahsaKaerra 6 лет назад
'Wanderer' was talking about the American president's decision to side with the USSR and it's allies against Israel and America's NATO allies. Because apparently pissing on allies to get along well with Russia doesn't actually make the Russians grateful it just makes them think you're a tool to be used. A lesson for today's Russophile cabal running the show in Washington, perhaps?
@burningphoneix
@burningphoneix 6 лет назад
The reason he did that was that the US was opposing the USSR crushing the Hungarian Uprising and the subsequent invasion of Egypt, after warnings NOT to do so or it would jeopardize the US's foreign policy, had destroyed any position the West had in that incident.

@rollingthunder8630
@rollingthunder8630 5 лет назад
@Stephen Jenkins Are you seriously so stupid that you think there is no link between the US's imperialism in the Middle East and the petrodollar, which is the very foundation of the dollar's strength? The reason the US dollar is so strong is because all oil transactions must involve using the USD. The US killed Saddam and Gaddafi because both wanted to stop trading with the dollar. Then Bush lied to the brainwashed masses (you) about made up WMDs and off the US soldiers went to "liberate" oilfields. I find it really funny how people like you insist that there's no link between US imperialism in the Middle East and oil when all facts show otherwise. I'll be happy to tell you more if you reply again.

@Jesse Brennan sure and that's why lybia is now one of the most propser countries in the world now thanks to NATO and Democracy! Gimme a break, what gives NATO the legal rights to invade sovereign countries????? if i remember correctlty NATO was formed to face the Soviet WARSO, since WARSO is now gone and the soviet union colapsed there was no point of NATO so they decided to use it as a thug tool to bully nations after causing Damage to it by brainwashing the population and turning them against their own leaders! just so that u open your eyes, whenever they talk and mention an Arab leader or a leader they don't like they call them "Dictator" and the government as "Their Regime" while when u are talking about your allies u call them "President/king/queen" and their government as "Government"! America and the west forcing themselves as the Gurdian angels of the world is more like The Devil forcing itself as the Guardian Angel of the Believers of God! Note that when hitler and stalin both invaded poland, the west Blamed hitler for starting wwII and decided to side with THE SOVIET UNION and when the war was over they started to make enemies with the Soviet union, Also when Germany got humiliated by the treatie of versaille and they started to fight back, the WEST blamed them of trying to invade the whole world while the irony is that the whole world was already invaded and Colonized by the West! regardless how wicked hitler was and stalin the west was no far from being wicked! as long as you win wars by Force and as long as you have the Power, u can commit all types of atrocities and then say it was/is legal!

Just before Nasser rose to power, the Cotton exchange (one of the biggest exchanges in the world at the time) was dominated by Egypt! The king of Egypt ruled Egypt + today's Israel/Palestine till 1948 + today's Sudan. Although Egypt was conquered by the British in late 1800s, it was still one of the most influential countries in the world and the Middle East! @@alexm566 That's Nasser propaganda with absolutely zero evidence to back it up, pure nationalistic rabblerousing. The only evidence we do have is of the Chief Medical Officer of the company doing reports of deaths for things like disposal of bodies and replacement workers which even if you double it to account for errors would place it at no more than 3000. Not to say that can be trusted (Although, good record keeping of how many of your workers are dying is a good way to maintain efficiency when sourcing replacements) but if you honestly believe the Nasser figures, you have problems. He literally stated that 12% of the people employed in the construction died. And that's going by the largest estimate of total workers. Any other sources are going by estimates, no hard evidence.

@Derevan The problem is not the number of videos available on WW2 . But the manner of presenting the subject . Here for example , the commentator's voice is attractive and awsome

I noticed that, when looking at your channels main page, the recently uploaded videos are nowhere to be found. Maybe you guys could change it? At its current state it's easy to mis a new video (if not using the notificationsystem). which would be sad because your videos are great!

Rick Stuifzand you can when it was agreed the canal would be reinstated to Egyptian control by 26th July 1956. Don’t sign treaties you can’t stick to. You can’t just change your mind because you don’t feel like it. Doesn’t work like that

@@mrebk3358 was Britain signing treaties before colonizing nations ? You are miserable Britain illegaly invaded nations , assimilated people , destroyed culture did Barbarianism and called peaceful tribes barbars and saw them as subhumans Nasser did what a normal president would do (not a puppet of imperialist nations) that's not even natinalism that is seeking the right of his own people and country that canal was built with the bare hands of Egyptians , with their own bare hands and they died for that canal if Britain simply didn't colonize Egypt gave the workers good conditions while building and doing their job and signed a treaty with an independent Egypt Britain would be right but they simply invaded Egypt in a barbarian way I am not Egyptian not an Arab or not from a country which was colonized by world powers please stop looking like the modernized humanitarian person treaties are not for barbarians. When it comes to a non European nation go ahead and capture it but when it backfires cry and blame the non European nation for not sticking to the treaty that's just lame P:S I am not anti European or British either.
