In this video, you learn how the British rotor encryption machine Typex works. We first discuss the components of the machine, its keyspace size and its unicity distance. Then, we use CrypTool 2 to encrypt and decrypt using the Typex component. Finally, we have a look at the "Virtual Typex", a really nice Typex simulator in the browser.
You can find the "Virtual Typex" here: typex.virtualcolossus.co.uk/
Also, I wrote a blogpost about the Typex, which you can read here: www.kopaldev.de/2023/03/20/th...
If you are interested in learning the fundaments of cryptology, let me invite you to have a look at our video series about the basics of cryptology, also for beginners: • Basics of Cryptology -...
You can download the latest version of CrypTool 2 from here: www.cryptool.org/en/ct2/downl...

Could Typex encrypt the same letter as itself ? like sometimes D will be D ?

Yes. Because the Enigma machine had that flaw which enabled certain kinds of break, the Typex machine was built so it could encrypt a letter to itself.
