You have no idea how cathartic this video was for me. To know that there's someone else out there who gets it. Who understands the love/hate dynamic I have with this franchise. Someone who doesn't pretend that the lore and story isn't anything other than a barely coherent and terribly written mess at this point. I love FNAF but I threw away the rose-tinted glasses I had for it years ago.

I agree with every point of this video. FNAF started off displaying such a mastery of simple, effective and atmospheric horror that slowly devolved into a confusing, tangled, watered down mess. I truly wish things stayed the way it could in the beginning... But I think the only way that could have happened was to end the series sooner. However, I am so glad that I witnessed this series in it's hay-day, because this series also got me into horror media and ignited my love for creating characters and stories. Fnaf will always have a place in my heart, despite the disappointing turn it took in its later years.

#4 could be accepted. It's basically useless. The story was over at #3. But 4 doesn't wreck the lore. Sister Location? As far as I can tell, you can follow the entire story without ever once acknowledging that it exists. If I leave Micheal and that game out entirely, nothing about William's story really changes. And the game is really his story, isn't it? He's the only consistent character. I need, like, two lines of lore about Baby to complete the story of the Afton family; that's all I need from Sister Location... maybe? I hear Baby makes a good manipulative villain, but if I want that, I'll go play Portal and hang out with GLaDOS. (Who really DOES need another game. C'mon, Valve!)

@@grathem9789I really like Fnaf Sl game play wise. It always has something new to do and is diferent from the repetitive game play of the others(I like the other games despite the repetitive gameplay btw), I think the animatronics in fnaf Sl look terrifying when their faces open. And the jumpscares where they open their face always gets me(The ones in that night with a gameplay like the other night I have to say the jumpscares are trashy.) It is my favorite game, from the designs(I love the animatronic designs) to the diferent gameplay. But I can't lie, it made fnaf lore ridiculous and all over the place, And I just can't get my mind around the fact that all that high tech looking animatronics are from the 80's, how the hell does Funtime Foxy has motion capture feauture in the 80's? And then to make everything worse... The ending, oh Lord the ending. How the hell did parts of 4 animatronics assembled inside a dude and then dude vomited them while already a corpse and for some reason, he has the hability to stay alive and then Baby separated from the others, became Baby again but all weird and the other 3 made a weird freddy and appeared in fnaf 6?

I've heard people theorize that Midnight Motorist might take place after Crying Child's death, with the child missing from the house being Michael and the person watching TV being Mrs. Afton. It would at the very least make the motivations for the missing Afton child more obvious if it was Michael wrecked with grief rather than Crying Child, and would give William more motivation as to why he might be kicked out of a bar... As for the bite, I always did think it was weird that everyone latched onto 1983 immediately. I was a 90's kid and they replayed episodes of 80's cartoons in the early 90's all the time! Heck, channels had reruns of I Love Lucy, Twilight Zone, Little House on the Prairie, and Mr. Ed and everything in between! There's no evidence that the original intention was that THAT was the year it took place in. It could've originally been meant to signify that the bite happened in 1983 at the EARLIEST, but could've easily happened later. But alas, whatever the original intention was, it is what it is now...
@grandempressvicky6387

One cool thing that one of the FNAF VHS tapes implied was that William hated or at least disliked Michael. A lot (some theorising that the Dracula tv show is supposed to be William arguing with Mrs Afton about whether Michael is actually is his son). But he adored Evan and Elizabeth. So when Evan died not too long after Elizabeth, he was particularly aggressive towards Michael. So Michael would run away frequently to avoid his father. In the meantime, William is incredibly jealous of Henry since he still has his children. Then he kills other children to take out his frustration on Michael without hurting him.

Where’s basically just a tragic story about 5 kids being stuffed in animatronics that never let go of the person who did it. Which I called the Missing Children incident arc. 4-6 tried to bring more light by giving William afton and his family more depth but got pretty confusing and sci-fi (especially when the books come into play) even if everything wrapped in a great sendoff until security breach fucked it all up.

Man I miss when FNAF was just a story that could have ended after game 6, when everything was actual horror and with a genuinely interesting plot. My favorite part about this series is the FNAF 6 ending, it just felt so poetic and beautiful. That it angers me when the story just keeps going progressively getting more and more stupid and nonsense. Making the FNAF 6 ending feel less impacting because with every game they try to "close" the story but instead leaving more plot holes each game, where FNAF 6 already did that and it didn't need more than just that. It brought a closure to the games that could have been left as the true ending to five nights at Freddy's.

imo the issue with fnaf is the need to explain things that are scarier without explanation. the most egregious example of this is remnant. i cannot stress enough how much we did not need to know about this. it GREATLY added to the fear factor of not knowing how these children possessed the suits and had this paranormal vibe to it, as it should. giving it a scientific explanation just kills that completely. fnaf originally did such a good job using the fear of the unknown. who's the purple guy, what's with the weird shadows, why are these robots moving, what's the deal with golden freddy, etc. it stayed vague while also giving us just enough to keep us guessing. but modern fnaf has this need to explain literally every detail while just losing itself in its own confusion.

I would say Sister Location is THE point where the Lore started degrading. We had the first Trilogy, where the story was about the murder of 5 children, who murdered those children, what happened to the murderer And how the pizzeria burned down afterwards, setting the souls free and ending the story. Then we had FNAF 4, it being a somewhat prequel to FNAF where we learned about "the Bite of 87" and how it happened (until Scott retconned it). Then SL came and turned what was once a horror story about paranormal activities at a pizzeria, into a Sci-fi puzzle game with way too many plot holes to be saved. Then Steelwool came along and we know the rest.

@@ender01o66 Charlie was more important even before we knew her name because she is the one who made the events of FNAF 1 and 2 happen by saving the children by putting them in the animatronics. She was always trying to stop William, which is more than what nobody Cassidy has done. Cassidy literally came out of nowhere and is made important on the basis of what? That she was one of FOURTEEN kids that were killed? It's really embarrassing that you use Golden Freddy as "proof" of Cassidy being important when 1) the only soul people cared about in GF was Crying Child before the Game Theory episode and 2) Golden Freddy had done fuck all in the series as an independent actor. At most he accidentally killed Crying Child, was the way Aftom tried to control his son, and happened to be the animatronic that Cassidy ended up in. She could've ended up in Freddy, Bonnie or Chica and NOTHING would change or make her/him more important. Golden Freddy was an Easter egg. Even when he was lore important, the phrase "It's Me" has NOTHING to do with Cassidy but with Crying Child trying to communicate with his brother. Cassidy is only relevant in UCN because Scott, for whatever reason, wanted to focus on her/him and STILL didn't do it properly. We know nothing about Cassidy other than the fact that she/he was murdered. Like I said, we don't even know what their sex is! So to have the audacity to claim that the original trilogy is CASSIDY'S arc and not Henry's, or Michael's, or Crying Child's, or Charlie's, or even William Afton's is absurd.

Fyi this narrative is very good but it missing some keyplots and factual infos (which is necessary, they're "cannon" and will make clear some of the hazy mess it alr is). I will cover knots from 1-6 (I'm not informed enough what happen in after with the viruses) 1.Why William is Orange. This is a direct reference to FNAF World hint as "don't confuse me with the other purple guy, I just made to be purple for easy to see". That's mean William not actually purple skinned BUT Mike is due to Ennerd messed with his body 2. What was the car minigame implied. For this we need to look in the survival guide book and found out Evan used to love his dad works and his favorite thing there was the rollercoaster, implying fnaf2's location, and since he ran to the direction of "the bar" we can assume that's the place. TL;DR, The "new and improved" toy location isn't super brandnew, maybe just the animatronics got the rework are, not the location itself. 3.The bite of 83 and 87 and the recon. This pissed me off too but Evan can't be bitten at 87, because 87's location (pressume fnaf2's location) isn't matched with Evan's location (Fredbear Family Diner). I think Scott either jebaited people and not actually recon or he realizes a big ass plothole if he keep the promo lore in. 4. The relevancy of the yellow bear. It's outright confirm he has 2 souls via the princess quest game (not that the survival guide book alr make it complicated enough). Anyways love ur content, idk why you put urself through to make this vid but love it anyway. *Cough* pls Kirby extra now-is-canon-lore next pls *cough*

I pretty much agree... As someone who was a fan when they were a kid, FNaF's "story" has become so convoluted that I honestly want it to end, especially since the Ruin DLC seems to only exist to further confuse things by adding a virtual augmented reality that isn't even explained how it works, and elements from the Pizzaplex books, making the books canon. I genuinely do not care about the lore of this franchise anymore because I'm confident that *_nobody_* can make a timeline without getting *_something wrong,_* and we don't even know if what's canon right now will stay canon by tomorrow. It's gotten so out of hand that I wouldn't be surprised if you told me that in a future installment, Freddy resets the entire multiverse by touching a tipped over trash bin... Every story has to have an end in sight, and damn it, Scott could've left it at Pizza Sim, but since he didn't, I *_do not_* see an end for this series. At this point, a story isn't even being told anymore.

I especially hate how Sister Location, the 1983 TV detail, and the books massacred FNAF 4. The idea of a child having traumatic nightmares is way better, in my opinion, than a father doing an experiment on his son. And apparently, you don't even play as the Crying Child in FNAF 4... You play as Michael. I seriously hate how the Michael got forced as the protagonist for a game that used to be intended for someone else. The CC literally got robbed out of his OWN GAME. It also sucks that the bite of 87 pretty much became irrelevant to the FNAF Lore. I remember back in the old day how important the Bite of 87 was in the story, now it's just there to exist pretty much. FNAF 4 would in my opinion be a great end for the franchise and idk why Scott suddenly decided to extend it more.

Orange guy in the "later that night" minigame is not William Afton. I see this missunderstood everywhere. The "later that night" minigame refers to the night of the missing children incident and we are watching an aftermath of one of the kidnapping victims. Orange guy is his abusive father who is coming home drunk, JRs is a restaurant/bar where green guy (bouncer) wont allow orange guy to enter (as he is already drunk). When he comes home (which is obviously not a fnaf4 house) we find a broken window and a set of footprints. This scenario directly matches one of the high shcool chica cutscenes which describe individual methods how William kidnapped the kids. Some people might argue that William would die in the suit because its raining. We see only an aftermath, it wasnt raining when he kidnapped the kid.

17:16 Okay, I'm not sure if anyone has ever said this but this needs be said. It's not like Scott planned this to be The Bite of '83 and was just trolling everyone. What's most likely happened was that when FNAF4 was released, it originally WAS The Bite of '87 that we saw and it was supposed be a big shocker because nobody would've suspected Fredbear did it. However, when you really think about this, Fredbear having caused The Bite of '87 makes zero goddamn sense, and this was an oversight by Scott that he would later realize was a major oversight. For one, what's shown in the bite minigame doesn't match up with what's said or implied about the Bite of '87 in previous games. The phone guy heavily implies that the bite was at least in part due to the animatronics' ability to walk around, Fredbear was on stage when the bite happened. He also very heavily implies that the bite involved someone's frontal lobe being removed, the Crying Child entire f**king head was crushed during the event. FNAF2 takes place during 1987 and it's heavily implied that the bite took place there when we see the paper showing Freddy's is closing due to animatronic malfunctions. Finally, we know that Fredbear's is no longer a thing by the time of 1987 since FNAF2 takes place during that year and it's mentioned that Fredbear's closed down. I think Scott Cawthon realized the problems with Fredbear being the culprit and so retconned the whole into thing into being "The Bite of '83", a never-before-mentioned event.

I honestly don't know why so many people believed Michael Afton was the crying child years ago. If Scott Cawthon was going to make a story about a dysfunctional family, would he introduce an older brother that does nothing but torment (supposed) Michael Afton and then is never seen again? No, he would obviously want to something with him. It's obvious that Michael is he older brother. In Sister Location, Michael says how he was confused with his father. I don't know about you, but it's more likely that an older child would look more like their parent since they're closer to their age.

ok so none of this is completely sure because theres so much conflicting nonsense but: fnaf 4: the most sensical explanation is that the nightmares are illusions, but to torture michael, not his brother. michael has undeniably seen the nightmare animatronics because he drew a picture of nightmare fredbear in the security logbook. it would also make no sense for william to be doing these things prior to the death of any major characters, including building sister location, because how and why would he try to harvest remnant before discovering it in the first place. sister location and Elizabeth's death almost definitely do not take place in 1983. midnight motorist: i dont think the orange guy is william, i think the kid in question is one of william's victims, thats where the footprints came from. It also lines up with one of high school chica's cutscenes where she talks about kidnapping someone. orange guy is the father of the victim in question, not afton. this would also be consistent with the other two minigames being about afton's victims.

(That is 100% personal perspective, though.) 2) I believe the only things scanned for the creation of the VR game (in universe) were the circuit boards. If memory serves, that's supposed to same them in programing time for pathfinding. I don't recall anything related to the floor plans being scanned in. Since they came out with that crap about the illusory discs, I stopped seeing the Fnaf story as something serious and I lost interest a lot, I miss those old days when the story had paranormal things but inside everything it was realistic and it felt like a story that could take place in real life (At least from the first game to Fnaf 4). I liked it because when I investigated and discovered things, I felt like a detective gradually revealing the truth with the help of others. For me, it has always been more logical that the events of Fnaf 4 were a nightmare of Evan or events that he dreamed while he was in a coma before dying, that was the old theory and honestly it is more credible than that of William (literally) torturing his child with real animatronics masked as monsters. So honestly, I will follow the advice I saw in another comment, after Fnaf UCN, consider everything what comes next (Both in games or additional info) as non-canon unless you like it. Something sad is that I liked Security Breach, but the abysmal damage it does to the story of the main saga makes me take it as a separate tale in an Alternative Universe or something, just like the books. It saddens me to see how one of my favorite video game sagas ended like this :(.

Well said. Things mostly made sense up through UCN (mostly). Sister Location was an odd one but if it had been the furthest into scifi we went it would have been alright. And I mean what we see in the game, not the stuff that gets added later through information in the novels. I don't like the direction they are going with the games right now, or some of the concepts they added in the novels. As for the short stories, about half the Fazbear Frights are actually pretty good and remind me a lot of the very first game in that they are about the pain and suffering from the atrocities at Freddy's now haunting a variety of objects and harming innocent people who happen across them. (The other half just make no sense at all and I think they are probably only urban legends even in the Fazbear Frights' timeline.) The way William is included in the short stories is actually much better than what they did in Help Wanted or Security Breach, and in a way I kind of wish they had made the games go in a direction closer to the concept of the Fazbear Frights ghost stories (and preferably set them before FFPS instead of just randomly bringing F.E. back). So, rather than some big bad evil controlling everything, it's just the echos of past suffering haunting animatronics/games/restaurants, amassing more and more pain as more people die because greedy F.E. would rather make a fast buck at the cost of some employees and customers than deal with their problems... until FFPS ends it all. But nope :/

I think after FNAF 6 I think Scott should've stop making more FNAF games after that. If he went with doing that then I think Five Nights at Freddy's could've ended on a high note. But nope we get more confusing lore just so that way I can tear out my brain cells out with an answer like, why? Edit: I used to be a fan of this series around FNAF 1 through 4. Why? Well it's because the lore was not complicated and it was actually scary. But seeing FNAF not being scary makes me sad to watch. Fnaf no longer likes to be scary. They care about going down the horror path for kids now because they lost sight on what made FNAF well FNAF. And I can't blame fans that feel like the lore is a mess now. That's the same feeling I felt when Sister location came out. Also why the hell are there realistic reasons why ghost of dead children go into spooky animatronics now? Why? Why Scott? What was the point? There is no reason to explain how the supernatural works. That's the reason why it's called the supernatural. It's stuff that can't be explained. Anyways I would like to say if you like the series then I'm glad you can find some joy in something I can't. I'm just explaining my perspective from how far the franchise went down in how I used to see it as. But man those first 4 games were truly amazing games. Scott hands down to you for making such a great series.

I honestly agree up l fell off from fandom and being fan it around sister location until it rement become a thing in the lore but l got to the point where the lore become to boring to me? lm not to sure how to explain it but it lost it ogrinal spark of it to the point where it need to just stop. l did like the idea of the funtimes but l kinda wish it was done in a different . Along with the books having different unverse yet some of stuff the books is caon and some it is lost it just got to much to the. Than when the movie came out while people thought it was terriable since it took insperation from the books and not the main games l was just happy we even got a movie it could be improve yes it can it dose have its fault but atleast the fnaf 1 gan looks great. but l feel like it should of just ended. but l still love the series but not as much as l do now

He didn’t say that he said remnant soul like energy that the killer in this franchise uses like some magical drug to become immortal he even made an extractor for it in sister location which is just to sci fi to even be fnaf I mean if you’re going to involve science with the supernatural at least do it right

Unrelated, but I love how this video is edited like a creepypasta narration. It really scratches my brain in a good way
