15:30 japanese interview said that the original script didn't actually have Hinoka. The 4th Hoshidan sibling was supposed to be Corrin themselves, and that they added Hinoka later to even out both sides and so there didn't seem like there was a disparity between the two versions..
My favorite part about fates is that if you try to avoid marrying your birth family OR adopted family by marrying the one royal who you arent related to and wasnt raised with, that's the ONE TIME you actually marry your cousin
Emulation is a legal gray area. Its not legal as much as it would cost the company too much money and goodwill to punish people, especially when they wouldnt make that money back anyway because they arent selling the games or consoles anymore.
Pretending it is legal is dangerous because it could very much become explicilty illegal and punishable if people go too far with it. It's best that we recognize it as an ignored loophole rather than pretending we are entitled to other people's intellectual property. For our own good.
@@zeropat0000 Emulation is legal if there is no way to purchase the product. Since 3DS games are officially lost to time forever, emulating them is completely legal.
@@backupschmliff1156it is not completely legal. You will not currently be punished in any way for playing an emulation of a 3ds game. That does not make it legal and does not mean the situation can't change. If you want it to stay unpunished then you'd better learn the difference between "I'm entitled to do this" and "no one has an incentive to stop me currently". Because pretending it is legal is how people get carried away and try making money off of emulation, and that can very easily change this into a punishable offence.
Especially one that couldnt be played on its own, and was only downloadable so legally its nearly impossible to play after the shut down of an online store. That'd be crazy
When Fates came out for my friends birthday I said I’d buy him both games. When we got them he gave me Conquest and said let’s play through it together and switch off when we’re done. I played on Hard and was not prepared for Mission 10. But damn was it satisfying. He never finished birthright tho
Unhappy Reunion is bonkers, the notoriously hard all-hands-on-deck map is the best way to get your trainee up to speed (by making her an archer and having her snipe all the Pegasus knights) and now she’s all set to actually be good
A lot of Fire Emblem Fates writing was horribly localized by Nintendo Treehouse that they removed entire character arcs and elements to the story. They even removed over a dozen support dialogues, and heavily altered most of them to be different from their original complex selves, which fleshed out Norse and Hoshido and made things far less black and white. It is a shame that no one that cannot speak Japanese will be able to experience them. Although, I do hear there is a big mod for the original game that replaces a lot of the script with something more faithful.
this is the truth. I so much enjoyed, cried, and empathized with the character and arcs ACROSS all 3 routes when omegamadter was uploading the faithful fan-translated version BEFORE the NA/EU release.
I think the channel name was something like that, just type “omega fire emblem IF fan-translate” (og japanese name) and you can find it, hopefully they kept it up
oh wow, yeah, the carious plot holes you pointed out in the intro (cool dragon, mommy magical spell) probably still exist even in the OG japanese script. When I viewed it as a teen, those holes completely went over me, because you can’t fill in an endless hole. but at least they weren’t conjurations of fanfiction. Just holes
Honestly, I think it would be really hard for me if I was put in that situation to choose Birthright besides self preservation. Losing everyone youve ever known for people youve known for a week would be hard
@@ViddysVids Exactly, Corrin spent 15 years with the Nohrian royal family compared to a few days with the Hoshido royal family, Corrin knows the Nohrian royals are good people despite them having a abusive and evil father which is why i ended up choosing Conquest on my first playthrough. Also i do hate how Corrin being a dragon is just ignored throughout the entire game, it sucks even more because Corrin is the only FE protag who can turn into a dragon, then again maybe it's that way because the dragonstone is so mid. All in all good video on my favorite FE game i'll be sure to sub!
I feel like it makes more sense if you frame it as a choice between going back to the family you know and love, or staying away from the psycho who would have been directly responsible for your death had your (alleged) mother not intervened Hell, that's basically what Birthright!Corrin says to Xander in chapter 6: not that they want to stay with their "birth" family, but that they don't want to side with Garon specifically
That’s true. But the difference was that at least with 3H, was that it “came” with all three routes. Itd be more comparable to if you picked one house and then bought the other two for $20 bucks. But on the other end Fates did come defaultly with maid outfits
@@ViddysVidsnot really, Three Houses is identical between routes until the timeskip, and even after that reused a lot of maps. With Fates you're getting a whole new game
Ah yes, Fire Emblem Fates. From someone who has never played a Fire Emblem game, it is the best Fire Emblem game since that inside joke that happened while I was playing super smash bros with friends. Now I've drawn Corrin hundreds of times and that inside joke has taken over my life. Thanks to this video I finally know the actual Corrin lore, so I can toss it aside and continue writing the joke lore.
The conquest route is genuinely one of my favorite games and my favorite fire emblem game. It's challenging, it allows you to be creative with your strategies. I still need to beat it on Lunatic though. I've played every fire emblem game aside from gaiden and FE3, though I did play their remakes, Genealogy, and Thracia. I plan on playing the later two soon, but in the meantime, Conquest is my favorite.
Conquest is probably the most fun I've had with the series, and the class variety in Revelation makes the disappointing writing much more bearable, but still annoying. Hate to be a nerd, but minor correction at 17:57 Flora is recruitable in Revelation and Conquest, making only 2 characters exclusive from Revelation.
Thank you! I honestly probably just put her up there because three characters are better than 2 and I didn’t want to spoil Scarlets Revelation plot. But thank you for the correction
Awakening was my first Fire Emblem game and I was hooked. Fates was the game that solidified my love for the series, neither it nor Awakening were perfect but they irrevocably ignited joy and passion for the series. It’s thanks to them that I play new instalments and revisit older games (ones that I can realistically purchase).
I mostly found Kajiro during the research I was doing, and a huge part of it was the entire story line where she was kidnapped and you had to rescue her in basically every route from what I remember.
"Of course. Interesting maneuver." ~Zelgius/BK Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn Viddy has made both BK's, the one from Fire Emblem and the one from Burger King, with this video, proud. And since he's there, I've got to say it: "At BK, have it your way. You Rule!"
Camilla breaks my heart as a character because her real story is genuinely tragic. But then they make her this obsessive monster with corrin and it just feels gross.
@@ViddysVids i got the dancer boy a few days ago, so my opinion to be honest: i was much more hyped for engage but the story writing isnt the best. Its not boring but very straight forward. I am also a big lover of three houses and in comparison engage is nice to have but not necessary. Anyways i will complete it haha
Funny thing is I chose Conquest, and that was my first Fire Emblem game. Bought the other two games when Nintendo announced they were going to closed the e-shop. After buying and playing they I still prefer Conquest.
I really enjoy the timing and jokes in this video. The editing with all 3 routes is very fun. I never got to 9999 visits and 9k battles. Dang I also never bought any dlc
Great video! It was aimed at a general audience but even as a big FE fan I enjoyed it. I missed out on the Fates special edition, it was sold out within a day of announcement and seeing the price there makes me :(
Im so sorry you didnt get it in time. Though Im very glad you enjoyed the video! I just wanted to talk about my love of Fates now that the trilogy is gonna be hard to ~*legally*~ complete ❤
I’ve been waiting for a good video on Fates! I’m so bad at fe despite playing a ton of it. For that reason I actually prefer birthright cause conquest was a bit too hard and I got stuck multiple times. I’m playing revelations now and find there’s way too many characters to choose from
Yeah that was something I wanted to talk about but just couldnt find a place to put in the script, when I 100% should have. I feel like the whole point of Revelations is having all these characters but really most playthroughs just end up having Corrin, Azura, Ryoma, Takumi, Sakura, Hinoka, Elise, Camilla, Xander, Leo, and then like 1-2 other randos. I actually really enjoyed playing Revelation blind and on Hard Classic for the first time because it allowed me to play around with all these units with not too too much of a worry of them dying. Though it still hurt to lose Kajiro and Mozu
16:54 It’s funny that in South Korea, they only sell special editions. I think they finally knew that they should’ve sold both versions at once, since Korea was the last country to release the game.
I have a deep love for this cringy game. I was there with its released and was gifted the deluxe edition from my family. I played it to death and still sometimes do. The biggest flaw in this game was its writing. All the groundwork was there for a classic, if the writing did not suck. Like the music, setting, story concept, character designs (I mean look at Azura, she is super pretty) and most importantly gameplay was great. This game has steller gameplay, with player expression, complexity and rng balanced really well. But the story writing was absolutely poor and sadly that quite literally made the game infamous. But still say what you will about IS the developers, they know how to evovle and itterate on their games. They went from going from their last game in the series to this, and this arguably is what cemented FE's survival.
I think they were okay. I was a story guy as odd as it might sound lol. I actually loved Awakening. I know it's dumb but I loved it everything about it
2:41 I died at this part! There is no Meta Knight in Fire Emblem, so, here is Roy. 5:13-5:20 WOW! 6:10 Hello Japan! 6:18 Japan vs Europe I feel like the series into Fan-Service Emblem. And I don't know much about it (except from Smash Bros) 8:05 Exciting news! 11:30 And I say... *sure* 14:26 Totally not Captain America. 19:44 Oh no! Marth become a stand! 23:50-24:02 This is a dating simulator! Nintendo-style! 25:09-25:21 UH OH!
Ah Fates. The "What if we took everything we did in Awakening and pushed it further" game. For better/worse. Personally I view it as a mistake but apparently Fates and the following games still sold a bunch so what the hell do I know they seemed to hit a winning formula.
I dont see them as a mistake, but I def believe they could have been executed properly. I think they had an amazing foundation and amazing ideas, but some things just fell flat for me too :/
17:57 Flora absolutely IS playable in Revelation. To recruit her you need to have cleared Chapter 22 and have the Flame Orb in your Castle installed and upgraded to Level 3. This means she's usually the very last character you'll recruit in that route. Perhaps you meant to put Scarlet there instead? Scarlet is technically playable in Revelation, but has a plot-forced death very shortly after she joins, so she doesn't really count...
I mostly just wanted 3 and didn’t want to spoil Scarlets death (even if spoiling anything in the story doesn’t mean much since the story sucks) and honestly just forgot that Flora is available
@@ViddysVids What I don't understand is why Yukimura doesn't recruit in Revelation like he does in Birthright. He doesn't die, so it's not like there's a reason for him to not join you...
btw here's another funny thing about fates' writing Back when they were doing pre-release promos and shit for this game, IS bragged about hiring a PROFFESSIONAL novel writer to help WRITE their story after people complained about Awakening's own lackluster writing beyond say the first act. They only used a tiny bit of the script the dude wrote. LOL.
I went back recently after playing for the first time when it came out, and honestly it’s mostly just the writing that’s bad. I wanted to make the video specifically to kind of defend Conquest and talk about it because I still love that game; and have fun nearly everytime because of the fun character, and the fun maps
Bro when I was in high school when fates came out, I would literally keep my 3ds on while I slept so I could sleep next to my lovely conveniently not related by blood husbando Takumi
I've yet come across a game that gives me the same vibe as these games. Conquest was my first game in the series, uh, never beat it though I fucked up my run.
I love Fates. Played it all last year and I absolutely adore it. Gameplay is phenomenal. Storytelling is cheesy and even bad at times. But also decent at times. Love me some corrin in smash too.
one issue i had with the story specifically, was one of the biggest twists in the game wasnt in the main story, but in a dlc side story. SPOILERS for anyone who hasnt played the game, but the main bad guy of the dlc and the main story proper... is your father. and because its in a dlc side thing through the eyes of someone else, the main character never finds this out. what the actual fuck.
Now that I actually watched your video I must say you are a very funny man mister Viddy! Very witty indeed. Though as someone whos been an FE fan since I had my GBA I must say... The day they get rid of my "questionable" loli sister romance I RIOT! If marrying Elise is wrong then I don't wanna be right!
Ah yes, my most regretted purchase on 3ds. With a story worse than Awakening. The gameplay is still good, but it panders too much to modern Anime clichés and the localization messed up a lot. If you want an idea of how this came to be, mekkah’s plinkett review on Kohei Maeda makes sense of it. It really sucks since this has become standard story telling for IS, but there was really a lot of potential in the set up for this game. 😮💨 I should have bought Pushmo😭
i actually enjoyed fates for what it was; the game wasn’t perfect but i still grew to like the characters, and exploit the hell out of the gameplay lol
Boy am I glad I found the Fire Emblem Fates: Special Edition at EB Games for $58 preowned years ago. That's going with me to the grave, unless it eventually ends up valuable enough to fund my grandchildrens' education.
For me, revelation should be at the end top birthright and conquest because They is to maybe question no answer. I don't know Azura died in a weird way in face of corrin and corrin don't try to understand why.
Rip the Nintendo eShop being shut down. Now you have to pay whatever eBay "values" for the all encompassing story. Love the franchise, but I could only play Conquest if I just tune out the story beats. The gameplay is really good but...hopefully they learned their lesson not to repeat the same mistakes again! Sadly, Fire Emblem Engage exists. Made all the same mistakes except not stretching the lackluster story into multiple games.
@@waluigiisthebest2802 yeah, however even if the story is interesting, just like fate we have big paradoxes. just to say that both approach interesting concepts but poorly done in certain cases. both are also not very appreciated by Nintendo and I love both.
I would say that Fates has an extremely interesting plot. A princess being stolen away by her birth family and raised by a more sinister rival kingdom but with loving siblings and is forced to choose which family to fight against is a CRAZY interesting plot. I just think the character motivations and action and amount of anime bs turn an amazing plot into an overcomplicated, goofy story
A little while ago I was playing Awakening and thought “I wish I was playing Fates” then I played Birthright and thought, “I wish I was playing Conquest” Say what you will about the story, Fates gameplay is very fun.
