When the Denver Broncos made it to Super Bowl XII to take on the Dallas Cowboys, the state of Colorado and the city of Denver wanted to celebrate. To send the Broncos off to New Orleans for Super Bowl 12, not only was a parade thrown, but a statewide holiday was created... only to be rescinded almost immediately after when public backlash against it got so bad. Super Bowl XII : Broncos had 9 turnovers but Dallas only scored 27 points in the game - the Orange Crush defense was for real.

Great story. That 1977 squad was really underrated. Taking out the Steelers and Raiders at the height of their powers in the 1970's was a tall order.

True but steelers were surprisingly avg that year....only 9-5 and 5 of those wins were vs a weak AFC central that year. Yes same lineup that wins SB13 and SB14. yep I'm trying to brag abt remembering that....Lol!

I lived in Denver from 1980 to 1990 and I would do my Christmas shopping on Sundays in October and early November because the stores, the malls were deserted. Everybody, and I mean EVERYBODY was at home watching the Broncos game. The stores were all mine.

Denver was also the same city that won the rights to host the 1976 Winter Olympics, only to have its citizens cause the rights to be rescinded, causing those games to move to Austria.

My dad was dating Governor Lamb's daughter at the time, and he has some hilarious stories about the governor coming home from work and getting briefed on all the crazy things Broncos Fan did that day, like a terrorist briefing.

Yes, creating a statewide holiday to honor the team was definitely one step too far. But they made it there--Disaster game for the team (and Morton in particular). But they made it...but a statewide holiday for making it there, yeah, not a great idea

First of their 5 SB losses. Four of my favourite Super Bowls are 21, 22, 24 and 48. If you insist on Roman Numerals, XXI, XXII, XIV and XLVIII. Good times.

So some business owners didn't want to pay people for an off day to support the team, only 300 mind you, and the mayor says I made a big mistake. One day off paid and you would think they were forcing them to give up their first born.

I can't believe that 10 pts per game was third best defense but Falcons allowed only 129 pts and the Rams were two points better than Denver. Totally different game then
