I knew a brony for a while, I asked him why he was into it and he said to me that he was apart of the war in Afghanistan and from all the horrors he saw, he saw genuine comfort in this show since the show was so innocent. Which is more understandable than most other explanations. I didnt know he was a brony until he changed his discord pfp to a pony.

I used to be a brony and I was straight up almost groomed by a 26 y/o when I was 13. He knew where I lived because he took me home after a brony meet up (we were the only two brony's there) he would text me everyday and lovebombed me like crazy. my dad INSTANTLY knew what was happening and told the dude never to get into contact with me again Thanks dad. Lil edit: My dad did something as soon as he found out what was happening, I lied to him saying "oh yeah a friend gave me a ride home!" Or something to that extent not realizing the weight of the situation. I was a 13 y/o boy who thought he could defend himself if anything did happen and was just too stoked to have another brony friend hah. It was pure naiveté on my part. My pops did all he could to protect me with the given situation.

My daughter grew up watching MLPFIM, and I watched with her so as to be able to relate to her interests. She's a high school junior now, and we still talk about MLP from time to time. I appreciated the rich characters, interesting storylines, humor, and encouraging messages that the show introduced to kids. I don't care what people want to obsess over, just leave kids OUT of it please, and keep your fetishes away from public places and kids' events. Have the common decency to understand healthy boundaries, and respect them.

My sister was actually a really active member of the mlp/brony community, I went to conventions and meetups with her and honestly out of all the fandoms I've witnessed and been around bronies are either the most degenerate or nicest people you'll come in contact with.

as someone who was actually a little girl when this series came out who was obsessed with it, I can't even begin to recount the trauma I had from being a part of this community AS ITS INTENDED TARGET AUDIENCE 😭 liking mlp when i was 9 or so was how i was first introduced to porn just by googling the character's names to look up pics of them. i'm so glad this era seems to be over or at least has crawled to the corners of the internet to die

I remember being made fun of by men on the internet and being told I wasnt allowed to watch it because I wasnt old enough to be a Brony, I was around 11 when I joined the fandom

They came across it as a joke. A bunch of people on 4chan got together to watch the premier and make fun of it together online. Some people started hyping it up as a troll, other people joined in ironically to make it go viral, then as new people discovered it, they didn't understand the compliments were from trolls and they actually got legitimately into the show. Jenna Nicholson does a wonderfully entertaining video about it as she was in the community for a long time, and was a voice on the parody "friendship is witchcraft"

I was a brony when i was around 13-14, and got sexually harassed online by older men constantly to the point where I had to disengage from the fandom because it was just TOO much. I met lots of great people I still talk to during that time, as well, but man, being harassed like that really soured me to bronies in general.

I entered the fandom in the early days during season 1, when I was about 8 years old. I remember being so proud that the show reached the popularity that it did, and I still am incredibly proud of the artists especially (MLP's fan songs, animations, etc SLAP). But it came to a point a few years later where I started to catch onto things and realize how twisted some of these people were. It is very interesting to be an OG fan and experience the destruction of a fandom first hand, I'll tell you that.

I was the target audience (8 year old girl) when I first watched the show. I was only doing it ironically and to hate on it because I was a pretty big tomboy at the time. To my surprise I liked the first episode and watched more until I eventually considered myself a big-time fan. I even dressed up as Rainbow Dash one time for Halloween. I think a part of the reason it became so popular is because despite it being aimed at children it doesn't baby or talk down to them, and the lessons they taught actually had substance to them. Many of my friends also really liked the show because of this and even my current friends who I did not know at the time also said they watched it growing up. I was a part of the fandom and liked the music, fanart, RU-vid parodies, ytps, etc. and somehow I don't think I ever stumbled across anything weird. I lost interest in it at about 14 but thankfully I am able to say that it was a very fond part of my childhood.

what some bronies did are actually horrifying, but i don’t think the weird and creepy people in the fandom can define the whole fandom. i love mlp and im part of the fandom even though im a 17 year old girl, but i love the show because i watched it as a kid and it brings back nostalgia and the show really makes my mood better when i watch it. the fan made animations and stories are also very interesting to me and i can tell how much hard work was put into them. there are some really great people that make mlp related content and i hate that we (normal bronies) are sometimes grouped with the creepy ones. especially when people judge me for liking the show just because of weird things other people that like the show have done.

As a mother, I don't understand how people just leave their kids unsupervised on the internet and don't look into their interests. I had to explain to a friend what her 18-year-old son being a brony was. She found crazy stuff on his computer when she finally looked .

God those screenshots of his conversations with that 15yo girl made my fucking heart break. She fucking trusted him when it was so obvious he was a predator. And it hurts worse because I was that kid once. I was overly trusting and eager to please and jumped headfirst into discussions of sex, way back when I was 14-16. I came so fucking close to being actually irrevocably harmed by groomers, and now I'm just left with the shame. Wherever that girl is now, I really hope she's doing ok.

I actually got exposed to this show because of babysitting, and ended up genuinely enjoying the show with my niece. It was a well written show with lovable characters, at least the parts I saw.

I just remember when my sister and I were little--I was in middle school--and we went to see the first Equestria Girls movie in theaters. My sister was wearing a Rainbow Dash hoodie, and when we walked into the theater lobby there was a man in his 30s-ish wearing the exact same hoodie. The audience was as much adult men as it was children and parents. There's nothing inherently wrong with liking cartoons no matter what your age, but I just remember the look on my mom's face as *soon* as she saw the man wearing the Rainbow Dash hoodie. It was the look of a mom who had IMMEDIATELY started running scenarios through her head of male strangers trying to lure her daughters into awful situations with their favorite show as the catalyst. And, after the movie, she was sure to remind us of stranger danger, and that just because someone's wearing the same rainbow dash hoodie as us doesn't mean they're safe, and to stay with her. The rainbow dash hoodie guy was 99.% not going to try and pull anything, he was just having fun going to the movie, he kept to his own business. There was, again, nothing wrong with him going to the movie or owning a rainbow dash hoodie. But I still think my mom was in the right to be so immediately worried--there is still that 1% chance. If you're an adult, especially a guy but any adult, you need to be careful if you're in fan spaces for media that's also enjoyed by children. Keep your content properly tagged, don't interact with kids beyond common courtesy, they don't know you. And if you're in the same space, especially in person as in a movie theater, understand the concerns of parents and just don't be a weirdo.

I was a huge fan of mlp when I was 6-10 yrs old and had hundreds of those blind bag figures you’d get from Walmart. Ofc I looked up mlp stuff on RU-vid, and occasionally I’d find some gorey disturbing animation featuring the ponies and would get extremely uncomfortable and upset. Fortunately I didn’t see much of the sexual side of the fandom, but it still scarred me for life watching cupcakes for the first time.

I found the chances of a brony being a literal creep increase by 100% if their favourite pony was Rainbowdash.

I've been in this fandom since 2012, and the people I've personally met in this community are some of the kindest and wholesome people I can describe. But seriously, every time I see one of these actual creeps pop up it makes me go "Oh great here goes ANOTHER one" and a small part of my soul vomits.

i unfortunately have an update on zak. he's been active mainly on discord and furry twitter rp for years and i was unfortunately a friend of his since 2021, being completely unaware of his past. all of us that had recently became friends with him, we had actually just done a confrontation with him in july about his gross perverted behavior, not even involving pedophillia, all of us being completely unaware about his past in grooming minors. he was just so shitty and gross to all of us still that we ended up cutting him off. we have since learned about his giant rabbit hole of a past only a few days ago, and we are making him known for his crimes right now on twitter with various callout posts and threads. he has unfortunately not gone to prison yet, but we are trying to get attention drawn to him again so that something may be done.

Man I remember when MLP was pretty much the apple of strife in every community and would make fans and haters go to war with each other before it turned into another neutrally regarded memetic phenomenon.

I'm surprise you didn't do a topic on Lily Orchard. Before the toonkritic incident, Lily was a former friend and editor of Josh Scorcher; their friendship ended after she was fired for secretly editing his scripts without his permission and behind his back. She developed this weird hate obsession of Josh Scorcher for this and did everything she could to bring him down. Lily was in the call with the one of the victims along with Josh and his friends. The group chat consists of plans of how to handle the situation. Lily knew that Toonkritic was one of Josh's friends at the time and decides to befriend the victim and made an 'exposure' of Josh and his friends, weeks prior of them to initiate their plan. Yes, it did help get word out on toonkritic's predatory behavior, but it caused toonkritic to go into hiding before anyone can get information of his location or whereabouts. The victim who became Lily's friend was then emotional/mentally manipulated by her. Lily would convince the victim to draw nsfw arts (one of them being bestiality) and in return would receive large sums of money. At the time, the victim was near the brinks of being homeless and was desperate for any sums of money. Lily even convinces the victim to 'roleplay'/flirt with her as anon asks on her tumblr blog. Fun fact, the first ever “porn” I came across as a kid was my little pony. I sat there in an after school “school” sitting on a beanie bag next to a bunch of other 14 year olds and stared in disbelief on what I had accidentally stumbled on. Other kids came to look and we had a joke and a laugh and I put the video to rest forever. Also, I think I stumbled upon it because I was searching up a female character that I really like in this one game I played as a kid. She was not exactly PG-13 friendly.

You could make this video about any community, because no matter what, horrible people will be in every community. With this, you don't help anyone, just making that one specific community look bad... What you forget here is that sometimes these communities are the only hope for people who just simply can't fit into mainstream society for various, often not malicious reasons.

i remember getting bullied relentlessly by older men that it got so bad i had to deactivate my DA acc. I was 11, and the thing that set the bullying off was me creating an Alicorn oc. Since older bronies were obsessed with lore at the time if it wasnt the nsfw. I was an 11 year old with autism trying to develop my creativity in different ways, but was stopped thanks to the bronies. recently ive been trying to come back and watch some of the old episodes and relive my childhood as a 21 year old, now i make silly fanart, my own versions of the ponies, and share my stuff with the world. It is possible to enjoy this franchise without being a nasty fuck.

I feel like this fandom is just like the furry fandom: they're not all bad people, far from that, but the minority of creeps and actual criminals get much more attention than the normal people.

Funny story actually, I have a family member who really likes to solve Rubix cubes as fast as possible and he would go to competitions for it. It just so happened that this one specific competition we went to was at the same place and time as the final Bronycon in the Baltimore Convention Center, but on the bottom floor. So we had to walk all the way through what seemed like a slice of hell just to see people solve these cube puzzles at light speed. The security guards looked genuinely uncomfortable XD

As a brony myself, I apologize for all the shit a lot of the fandom has done and Said. I got into the show expecting to hate it. But it helped me feel like a kid again. I was abused emotionally and mentally all my childhood. And feeling like I could just escape into a reality of pastel colored horses helped lessen that trauma.

I had a friend who tried to turn me into a brony, and had to pay me to watch the episodes. The one thing I learned from watching it was it's definitely a good show for kids as it teaches a lot of good lessons, but it should definitely stick to being watched by kids. Every adult I've known that watches it is always socially awkward

I joined the community at around 13, and as much as it had a huge positive impact on my life(inspired me to start doing art, helped me find friends and try out different creative projects), it also got me involved in a whole lot of grooming scenarios, and I know a lot of other girls who went through the same thing. Unfortunately, back then we saw it as the so much needed attention, validation and feeling of being involved into something big and cool :(

I grew up with MLP and really enjoyed it. Sometimes I rewatch it again because I genuinely admire the story-writing and how talented the writers are when it came to teaching the younger audience about friendship. From my point of view- I enjoy the show for its talent, brilliant artwork, and well-thought out storyline. Sometimes I feel humiliated to be even somewhat associated with bronies.

Never realized this community existed until I was in like 11th grade or something. Some dude in my class who was kinda quiet I made friends with turned out to be a hard core brony. Now this was high school and he’s probably changed but he was a sweet kid. I think he may have been on the spectrum but I hope he’s doing well today.

I was in this community as a kid and was preyed on by many older men. Truly a horrible experience.

I went to bronycon many times as a teenager. Things were mostly family friendly and the were a lot of kids there in addition to adult fans. I never encountered a situation where i was made uncomfortable, but I am aware that others did have bad experiences. Though I will say the last year the con ran they did just kinda give up then. There were so many weirdly sexualized body pillows for sale in the expo hall it was surreal seeing people just shameless sell those out in the open.

I won't lie friendship is magic is a pretty alright show. When i was still in high school i'd sit down with my siblings while they were watching it and actually catch myself getting kinda sucked in. This is rough. Any time I hear the word 'brony' a part of me dies inside. I was part of that community, I enjoyed the show, but, and I mean this to my core, I just found it wholesome. I'm a guy, I was in a dark place in my teenage years, depressive as hell and mildly suicidal. I wasn't positive about literally anything, but that show, for whatever reason resonated with my angsty teenage heart, and got me through, for a while at least. I know the less savory side of it too, but honestly I think it did more good than bad for me at least. I am sorry to all the little girls that were creeped out by neckbeards exaggerated enthusaism, or being just far too extra in general. It hurts though, because I know its true that the fandom that followed the show in general was... not always the greatest. But genuine passion did come from it too. So many fan games, stories, and genuinely good art was produced, If you want proof that Brony's can be passionate about their work, look no further than the Hearts of Iron IV mod "Equestria At War" a total conversion mod that replaces EVERYTHING with pony stuff. And its so well done that even people who aren't involved in the community enjoy it. Hell, of my best mates absolutely despises anything to do with MLP, but he PREFERS to play with the Equestria at War mod because of how much attention to detail and effort is in it, but I digress. Much the same as any loud fandom, the bad seems to just outweigh the good, and that is why hearing this hurts. Because on some level, I know it is true. I know that a lot of creepy guys acted inappropriately. I know that much p*rn was drawn of technicolor ponies. I'd still like to think that overall... it was good. But I seem to be in the minority of that, and I can't exactly blame you all for thinking otherwise. I apologize for the bad actors among us. I can say at the very least I didn't traumatize any children... I kept my interest in a children's TV show largely to myself, because I thought that a guy watching a show like that was shameful. tl;dr Former Brony just wants to say... sorry for the worst of the fandom.

Look I can understand liking the show due to the innocence and the happiness in the show, when I had my most recent skin graft, I struggled a lot during the recovery and my friend put the show on so we could have something cheerful and it was genuinely helpful. But like most things, they get ruined by the worst of people, the fact that it became not only a sexual thing for these men but a way for them to groom younger children gives me CHILLS.

Reading everyone's comments around their experience with the fandom is making me realize how good I got it. Never talked to others in the fandom, reddit was( and still is ,for me at least) pretty chill. I saw some of the Gorey videos when I was much Younger, but it didn't bother me. I watched so many pony RU-vidrs and still do, yet I never saw or heard any of this.

I was a brony. The first season was fantastic. The writing was well done. The later sessions became such blatant fan service, plus the weird ass fans, I was like a shark and went “I am out.” The fact that Music in the Parks went “plz no show” was the icing on the cake.

as a 21 year old who grew up online and cant wait to have kids, i pray my generation does better since we actually experienced the intricacies of online degeneracy firsthand. i hope we actually warn our kids of the real danger and dont repeat the mistakes of older parents who let their kids roam online freely. i was exposed to so much disgusting foul shit by the age of 10 that truly still impacts me to this day. i hope that my peers feel the same way about protecting our kids using what we have learned from being hurt on the internet
