They do'nt make men like that any more -- ' mores the pity!! Could listen to them and their lovely Irish accent right now, a world away from Brexit, Covid and the troubled world we are living in
"He was the best pal I had, the best pal I had" What a lovely way to end on, a man and his dog, in one way a sad tale, in another way a happy tale. Rest in peace Nicholas and Paddy, real country gentlemen
Wouldn't it be an ideal world if Nicholas and his Niece reunited? 🙏 😇 It would be nice to hear the womans side of the story who Paddy was rambling to visit.... Come on Richard Fitzgerald you can do this ☺
I remember 3 brothers that lived on a farm near us, dad bought the farm but let them live out there days in the steading, all never married, no electricity till they died, wore the old three piece suits, they all died one after another very fast. Truly a way of life no more.
That was a great act of kindness by your Dad, I can just imagine their joy and peace when they were able to stay in their Home where they lived their whole life..Bless you and your Family.
BRILLIANT little documentary and really enjoyed it. Bit on the lines of the Hannah Hawxswell series. Its just such a shame that the world is changing so much that characters like this will disappear for ever.
Truly priceless. An ireland soon to be completely gone. My great uncles John Joe and Barney, two bachelors and pioneers lived into their 90's in Tyrone. Farming and mass were about all they knew.
The end of an era, you never see Old Folk like these today they used to gather to talk along the old roads, they would have talked for hours. Wise Old men. He’s right about a Dog they are indeed the best friend you could ever have.

Mary Kate Graham..So lovely to see you here, it’s just lovely to take a walk down memory lane to the happy Days we used to know when life was simple, our Old folk worked hard for little, they had nothing but they had everything..I’m thankful to have these memories of my Dear Grandparents..I was reading your other comment on here earlier, you always write the sweetest comments..Thank you and God Bless you.

Those gentlemen were the real salt of the earth country type That interview had no reason to inquire about the ir privacy ....where they slept Etc etc no one should be asked that he took advantage of their innocents
"""May u rest in Peace- you -2- BEAUTIFUL- IRISHMEN- the once BACKBONE of what was once our Beautiful Country. At home now at last wrapped in the arms of your Parents -#- THE MASTER HIMSELF JESUS CHRIST.""-- Blessings from Belmullet in Co.Mayo.🙏🙏🙏☘️☘️☘️🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪💚💚💚
The guy that interviewed those innocent men really got value I detect an British accent if they were street wise they' wouldn't have given that interview for all the gold in the world God Rest to those gone gentlemen
God be good to the two of them rip.. They be looking after the fields in the great prairie in the heavens. Hard times come again no more... Bless all... 🙏
I'm still living like this, any man who's loaded looking for an amazing woman get in touch, "wish me luck,my mother's 83 n still farming 7 days a week.
I remember seeing this year's ago. I never forgot it. It stuck in my mind. Heartbreaking how it ended really. Surely we will never see their like again. God rest them both.
@@makeitforfree6671 yes but to put a clame on there estate AFTER 50 years is BAD she should have done the right thing and left it to his family that Was there for them all there life's ITS CALLED DOING THE RIGHT THING NOT RUNNING OFF WITH ALL THERE MONEY 🇬🇧🇫🇴
You can tell towards the end, the surviving brother felt betrayed by his brothers silence over the matter, when he said the dog was more faithful than his brother. Sad end to a lifetime spent living so closely together. Then again we don't know the circumstances as to why it was kept secret. You can just feel the hurt he must have felt by the betrayal. Maybe if the brother had lived longer he might have said something about it if he'd known he was about to die As they both had said they could have talked it out and sorted it.
This happened quite a bit actually, at that time it's not every woman would be accepted into a farm and so often discreet relationships went on for years undetected by siblings only to come to light after the death of a brother. The brother in question probably did know he was a father but a relationship such that which a child was born would have been a big thing then and kept secret if possible.... those fathers and mothers were victims of the times ... as were the children. You would feel for the remaining brother though because you could sense his feelings of betrayal towards his brother, a sad way to be feeling in your twilight years.
A lot of people here being very abusive of the daughter! You know nothing of her circumstances. A whole generation of kids were brought up in institutions and we all know what happened there. Where were the fathers when all this was going on ?? If you want to be abusive direct it at the feckless fathers who took no responsibility for these children who went on to lead sad and lonely lives through no fault of their own.
Well that must have been a shock for Nicholas when a woman turns up claiming to be Paddy’s daughter!! He kept that quiet but as Nicholas says it’s a wonder she didn’t turn up during the 50 years him and his brother lived together. We need to get closure on this !!!
Those 3 brothers still sleep in the reses beds in the wall, that was in 1984. The oldest had this legs blown of in the war, he was the boss, middle one was the worker and third was called the boy even at 80 he wasn't just wright. Long gone days, they did have a radio but that was it and candles, all born in the early 1900s and nothing ever changed till the 80s, amazing when you look back.
I watch the first part it would been nice two meet theos to brothers you can tell two honest men. Very good men i think the woman the shirt over his head he was very smart man i think she was taken paddy for ride .maybe she wasent where i live everyone says Ireland and prince Edward island both look alike .i heard that all my life.then i heard NFL and Ireland. Look the samemy sister was in Ireland last year in the fall she said ever pub thay went in to there were know irish music it was USA and Canada music in the pubs 7 family members went thay were disappointed because no irish music .she said it was a beautiful country and the old homes her and her son rented s car seen the places she was in northern Ireland. God bless the brothers who made this show
No criticism of the late butler brothers, it would be fairly typical of a lot of older chaps who lived the lonely single life in rural ireland, it was a terrible life I escaped it , and don’t try and tell me that ireland is better than anywhere else in the world similar but not better, and that sad doco says it all
RIP - sad business. it s strange that the daughter didn’t turn up earlier to get to know her dad!!! The men’s sleeping arrangement a strange but maybe that was the way!!!
Amazing here how so many are cursing almost that daughter who has claimed? Why wouldn't she? Seems like with the brother's secrecy she was nearly denied. Was her mother paid to be quiet? Those times with the church so imposing being a single parent was dreadful, almost ostracised especially as a woman. As for the children it was also very hard. This daughter had her right legally to claim. Here we only hear one side of the story and to see this brother not even knowing that must have hurt too.
One of the nicest documentaries I have ever seen. True life as it was lived in rural Ireland. May eternal rest be theirs and all the wonderful people of those years who no longer are with us.
