That’s sad but true. But it depends on the person. I’m sure not exactly everyone in every army in every war would do that. There’s both good and bad people.
many , MANY commenters in the past complained that this channel only showed crimes against humanity perpetrated by the axis powers and not by the allies , this video goes some way to set the record straight
There was a German Holocaust at the end of WW2. Germans were rounded up in the occupied areas, those that had native German populations. They were forced marched to what was left of Germany. Many were murdered along the way.
The famous 1961 Italian film Two Women starring Sophia Loren was mainly about the battle of Italy as the Germans fought the allied soldiers fleeing north to escape before Italy surrendered to the allies. Sophia, the main character and her daughter were attacked and raped by allied soldiers when they were caught in the fighting. Many Italian civilians were attacked, raped or killed when a lot of them were caught up in the fighting between the Allies and German soldiers in the decisive battle for Italy.
During colonial rule in India, Britishers used to commit these crimes on large scale. My Grandmother used to tell me that whenever they saw Britishers the women used to jump in wells or hide in house.
Hmmm... making negative comments about the British for actions that happened nearly 100 years, whilst living in a fair and relatively safe place called Britain!!!!! Can't make it up!!

War brings out the evil on both sides. I’ve heard war stories as a bedside nurse in VA hospitals over a 35 year career that I can not repeat, and if I did, would make your skin crawl.
It is the duty of anyone who knows anything about this to pass it on to the rest of the world so that the recurrence of such horrors is minimized as possible.
The horrors of war. It turns men into rabid beasts, on ALL sides. I'm hoping it's the minority and NOT the majority of men. A lot of men are so traumatized when they come home, they have PTSD!! I'm wondering if it's because they saw too much death, or maybe they saw these rapes and outright murder?! Probably BOTH!!! That would be hard for a REAL man to accept.
I wonder if those soldiers who committed rape after rape suffered from PTSD, I HOPE SO. Two wrongs can NEVER make. a right. The rapists were probably misogynistic pigs anyway. Many makes are ruled by their genitals, as they are today.
My friend served three tours in Iraq and 3 more in Afghanistan. He and his pals rescued a boy the Bacha Bazi tribal warlords had tied to a bed. The kid was 10 years old and had been raped thousands of times by the Muslim adult male, who bought him. The Army told these heroes "We don't interfere with the customs of the locals" and ordered the boy returned to bondage and sexual slavery to Allah man. My friend ended up becoming alcoholic, getting divorced and moving to rural Montana to escape the PTSD as much as he could.

Its a way to take away the pride of a people. I am German and this pride never got restored, I can see it when I talk with my grandparents. My Grandpa started to cry when he told me how he witnessed as a child that his mother went with allied soldiers to come back beaten up and in bad shape (raped). His father died in combat he has only seen him twice. I see this humiliation is still inside him as an 80y old man, and in a way it also affects my father and me on an epigenetic level and we can still see in our society that men who have pride get shut down very fast as its not wanted anymore.
What your Nazi people did to Jews done to your women by allied forces. ...and remember, you civilians German so called elite class used to make mockery and laugh at Jews people when they were dragged and tortured in the streets. You were in the majority in terms of population...are you not ashamed of what you did to minorities that time?
This is exactly what the purpose of the humiliation of the conquered enemy is. Humiliation and breaking up spirit of a potential adversary. Your comment and the fact that Europe so far enjoyed peace are testimonies of effectiveness of it. With few exceptions it is men who are worriers. Most of the time propaganda portraits them as defenders of the week and helpless (women and children), it is rape of women ultimate proof of their inability to fulfill this duty. After these brutal events no German will be able to present himself as superior to others.

It seems any war will involve the rape of women by soldiers regardless of drunkenness or nationality. It's as though taking women is an unwritten law of war. The men forget they have their own mothers, sisters, wives in their lives and they are able to dehumanize and use females of "the enemy". Most often no one is punished and the soldiers can proceed with impunity. These crimes are happening again in Ukraine as they did in Bosnia etc etc.
There will always be individual bad actors in every military. The difference being some countries will tolerate, condone or even encourage the rape of women. That would be countries like Russia and Japan or the Nazis. The Allies countries of WWII may have at times looked away to some extent but would never condone or encourage the rape of women.
@@CM-ve1bz The USA allows rapists of women and children to walk away from their crimes every day. This isn't just a war thing. This is a women and children aren't important thing.

The russians are the worst attacking innocent civilians in an unprovoked attack. Many german women were protected by the american soldiers from the russian dogs and went to america to start new lives with them. Russia brought the german attack in ww2 on themselves by stealing neighbors countries exactly like we are seeing today. Living anywhere near russia was and clearly still is a very bad thing. The stronger the soviet union became the more germany felt threatened. Russia killed millions of their own people before ww2 and many were of german heritage. Many russians welcomed the german attack and joined the nazi army. Stalin killed their entire families if they were caught or if they surrendered to the nazi's. It would not surprise me if putin is doing the very same thing to families of captured soldiers in his army of thugs today. When polish jewish communists tried to physically take over the german government in the 30s and had to be killed they caused the eventual death of many jews who were regarded as communists since lenin and trotsky started the russian revolution causing millions to die and lose their freedom.
My grandfather was stationed in Berlin in the closing days of the war and after. He told me that the German people suffered horribly during that time, that Germans were starving and desperate. He wasn’t proud of his service and didn’t want to be there in the first place, got drafted at 18. When he came home, he was psychologically damaged for the rest of his life. I’m sure he witnessed/knew of abuse against German civilians based on what he told me.
I think what does the psychological damage is that they knew what their comrades in arms were doing, but they didn't speak out or try to stop it. They simply ignored the crimes. And THAT I think is worse. Peer pressure can be an awful thing! I have a relative who served in the middle east in the 70's, and sometimes I think the reason he is in such bad shape mentally is because of that very thing! Men like to think they are heroes and protectors when they go to war. Some find out that they are really cowards. That is a hard pill to swallow.
These atrocities are probably true of all wars. I remember the awful movies of that horrible Viet Nam war. I sobbed openly at the continual rape and torture of a Vietnamese peasant, by American soldiers.
War is the great " x - ray " of human character . It exposes one's true character . If a person is rotten , I mean , just under the skin then war will expose it , likewise if a person is a decent human being , war will bring it out , believe me .
Les Allemands et allemandes ont bien mérité leur sort lors de la Seconde Guerre mondiale.Ils n'avaient pas à agresser les autres peuples.Quant aux femmes qui ont été violées cela me laisse indifférent.
Thank you for making this video. As the comments clearly show, too many people dehumanize the average citizen just because of where they live. Sickening and hypocritical.
One particular time i was in the mess, (ex ADF Army) i said to the fellers around me, 'if we ever go to a warzone and i see anyone raping a civilian I'll put a bullet through you', i was expecting agreement but all i got was shocked looks. Just goes to show not all who wear a uniform are of sound character 😔
The one who starts a fight is the one who first dehumanises everybody else, the whole humanity. They who belong to a dehumanising nation should not complain at all, they should be first to ask forgiveness, to their enemies, and to their co-nationals.
That does not excuse the choices of the men involved. There are no valid justifications. Claiming "war is a nasty business" doesn't make a man any less of a predator. There are no heroes in any war. The Allied soldiers committed all sorts of atrocities. No matter how decorated they may have been when they came home, don't trust the myths. Women and animals are always the most tragic casualties of every war. This has still never changed.
War is about destroying your enemy, not just the soldiers. War is about breaking your enemy, breaking them psychologically, physically, emotionally. Soldiers have assaulted the woman of their enemies through all history because that leaves your enemy’s society traumatized with no resolve to fight back. It’s disgusting.
@@donaldbell2415 The concept of ‘war crime’ is an absolute joke. War is crime, it’s about killing and destroying people, you can’t talk about some war as if it’s ethical compared to other war.

That is too simplistic. It is accepting that there will be atrocities. The Germans and Japanese atrocities were much greater in number and degrees than the allies.
I watched a video recently of a Holocaust survivor from Auschwitz. At the time of liberation she was around 18 and in bad shape physically, as you can imagine. Afterwards, she also got very depressed that all but her sister had been killed. They found an apt. and she had to be carried. They put her in a crib, and during the night a drunk American soldier with a buddy broke into the apt, picked her up out of the crib and started taking her clothes off, but was stopped by his fellow soldier. She said he got infuriated, but left. He came back the next morning to bring her flowers and apologize. I bet she wondered if she’d ever stop being terrorized and feel safe again.
@@sirphineasluciusambercromb9114 We did. Our men committed atrocities in France, Germany, Vietnam and Cambodia. But Holocaust survivors? From those filthy dehumanizing, murderous atrocious Nazi camps? NO! No no and double no.
Many, many moons ago, my ex & I had taken a trip out West in Canada. We stopped in a roadhouse for something to eat & meet some older guys. We got talking & for whatever reason the conversation turned to WW2. These guys came in just as the war was declared over & had joined up with some Russian soldiers that were to seek out any German soldiers possibly hiding in the countryside. These guys soon became aware that these Russians were nothing but cruel, vile pigs. I won't get into detail what they did to a farmer's wife, daughter & 7yr old boy. Eventually they hung them in the barn. These Canadians had had enough of these atrocities that; let me just say these Russians never woke up in the morning. Because of the fact it was still a war, nobody gave the demise of these Russians a second thought.
History repeated itself on and on. From the beginning of times until now women are sexual assaulted and worse in times of war or other. Some men don't need a reason for this dispicable behaviour
The platoon bullies sniff each other almost immediately. Then they gang up and establish informal hierarchy based on bullying, harassment and humiliation. That's the reality in the army.
Can you please stop saying those germans , the German people voted for adolf hitler in a general election . The german people in a referendum gave hitler a 95% approval to his enabling act which effectively allowed without any violence to allow Hitler to be the sole ruler of Germany as an authorotarian regime . The german people have adolf hitler consent to dissolve the weimar republic as the nationalist socialist revolution . These are the facts. When are today's germans just going to accept this that propaganda and dogma took over most of the German people period . The reason why this is so important is that this could be repeated and it was to an extent with Donald trump in the United States with his election lies and attempted coup
And secondly there was no serious partisan resistance movement by the Germans against the Nazi state . It did not exist . Stauffenberg was the only man who finally manned up towards the end of the war to get rid of hitler and his family were condemned as traitors
i personaly think that many things from past, we kinda cant watch thru our eyes, eyes of a modern man, coz those things were like 80 years ago, but when it comes to such crimes i bleieve it needs to be talked about it and judged. i am survivor of ethnical cleansing from 90ties in former yugoslavia, one of things they kept saying when we wer egathered like a cattel to one place, was this all is for 1945, and i was 9, in 1991, someone saying to 9 year old basicaly your town is flattened you are here where you are, people are dead around you, women and men divided, women are screaming from from various sides, you are ordered to strip naked and enter huge like a warehouse, inside is bunch of young boys and teens, and boys who are hardly 6. to be searched and inerogated completly naked and kept been told this is for 1945. coz if we kept silent about those stories from past, those expirences of people, from who majority is not alive an more or is in their late 80 ties and 90ties, those things will keep repeating. crimes of one can't justifie another crimes done by other side. it does not work like that. people who do crimes in wars have their names, and this story from this video is former yugoslavia story in ww1, ww2, wars from 90ties, is ukranien story today, is polish, is french, is any where in the world in any given past or present time where some kind of armed conflict is. kids are sold often to god know who and for what. war times ar emagnet for all kinds of sycos who even during peace do certain things just in a hiding. and they will do them once war is over. in my country war veteran recently was charged for rap**e of his own 8 year old daughter, if he was doing that to his own child, imagine what he was doing during war to other children..

I lived in Germany for a few years as hubby was in the RAF stationed there. I worked on the camp in a cafe. We had a cook that wasn't German but came from Easter Europe. Yes. Non German women were treated very badly by some American soldiers. Having been in the Army myself, it is best to try to dissuade these people from these crimes. You may be called a wimp, but you hve done a good deed.
My stepdad was a Captain in the Canadian Army and he told me these atrocities also took place in Italy. Still, he also said to me that in the Candian Military, it was pretty easy to be shot for any major crimes against any civilians both male and female young and old unless you could prove it was in self-defense... Is anybody out there that can confirm this?
There are a couple accounts of rape by Canadian soldiers from German women, but they are few. Not everyone in the military "Served/serving their country" is a good person. I know from experience for every patriot there's unwanted shitheads too.
The first act of ALL belligerent governments is to dehumanise the enemy. Most of us will recall posters of a WW1 fierce eyed German soldier towering over a cowering young mother holding her babe-in- arms. Equally, we've ALL heard stories of men (mostly) meeting their erstwhile enemies long after wars end, only to remain firm friends for the rest of their lives. I've known several, the usual comment is "they're just like us". RIP to them all.
what people fail to realize say in the german perspective...most german soldiers in Russia were just soldiers but the nazis would come in and commit atrocities' so people would assume every german soldier was evil this was actually used as a terror weapon..by their own govt
But gangraping young girls to death can be. And leaving some food after you did that, as if you're paying a prostitute, can surely be described as sadistic too.
A work colleague of mine told me how her father, British soldier, who fought in Europe during WW2 told her how British soldiers were r*****g German women after the fall of the 3rd Reich. He told her that there was nothing you could do, if you tried to stop them you'd be killed. I also knew a woman who was part of the exodus out of Dresden and she talked about how allied planes would strafe the roadways with gunfire on refugees as they marched away from the city. She herself moved to England with a young squaddie who had been stationed there after the war.
@Cher cher believe me, I would rather be in front line, than waiting to be raped and killed together with my children. If war ever comes to my parts and I won’t be able to avoid it, I’ll try to die fighting by all means. Dying after being raped and tortured is so overvalued.

The Soviet Union TRIED to take the high road with Germany in the opening days of Barbarossa. 'Tell us what you want, and we'll GIVE it to you!' Finally, at Stalingrad, the Red army soldiers realized that Germany would not stop killing until they were killed themselves, and the tide turned.

Hello, I remember watching documentary video where they talked to a handful of German women about this during world war II. One German lady talked about the French soldiers being cruel and just as mean and made the Soviet soldiers look like boy scouts.
Not only the French but also the British, the American and Japanese soldiers ... do not judge a nation by war crimes only. There were wars everywhere in Europe in the past and soldiers killed so many innocent people (children, women, the elderly, ...) Things will never change. The war in Ukraine today is another example. Many Ukrainian women were raped. And if you go to some African countries, it is exactly the same situation. What the German soldiers did during WWI and WWII in Europe to some civilians was an absolute horror (tortures, rapes, concentration camps, ...). Human beings can be evil.
I will say one thing, 27 million people died in the USSR, of which 13-15 million were soldiers. The Germans and their allies destroy entire villages, including old people, women and children. One of the German soldiers, in letters to a friend, boasted of how they raped young girls in droves and how he liked them to resist to the last, and then kill them; this soldier was also surprised that there were so many virgins among them... There is a huge amount of evidence of the brutal murders of small children, including crucifixions, and I also remember how a German soldier killed a child with an ax (because the child was crying and did not let him sleep). I read letters from German soldiers, and letters from their wives and mothers, who asked to send a fur coat or boots, and also thanked for the parcels sent, one Frau thanked and wrote that she was able to wash a blood stain from the coat that he sent them, and how this coat goes their daughters..... For many USSR soldiers, the Germans killed all their relatives: mothers, fathers, wives, children..... How could they be kind after that? Do you seriously think this was cruel to women in Germany???? Only thanks to the power of the USSR, their generals and the kindness of “Ivan” was at least something left of the people of Germany!
War and the crimes committed during and after wars was sick and depraved. My heart goes out to all of those who died in battle or were victims of war crimes. God Bless all of them.
War is hell. At any moment you could be looking at and experiencing horror and death. It's nearly impossible to repair that kind of stress and mental health damage in such a short period of time. As men, to assault the women of the enemy is almost a natural primal instinct/inclination as a result of the PTSD. I'm not saying that this is right, but being thrust into war is not right to begin with either. The politicians who send the soldiers to war are to blame for all the atrocities that occur.
My father was in Berlin after the war for studies in tecnique. He was horribled over how the american soldiers treated the women. So it was not only the russians that behavied bad. When he tried to interfer he got problem.
@Quisqualis683 and does that mean the Germans deserve no Sympathy? No matter wether the Germans started it it was the Allies who perfected it and committed it on a scale that would have even shocked many Nazis.
If only that was the worst of WWII ..As I look at the present day destruction of our country I have concluded General Patton was right when he said “we fought the wrong side”
War desensitises some people, morals they once upheld are left laying amongst the ruins they have walked over and only picked up again when they return home talking of having fought an honourable and just war.
Damn War breeds brutality and retaliation against Civilians. The fact that modern wars fought by Modern armies includes that too is disturbing as hell. At least we no longer capture people as slaves like we used too, right?, I think.
Somehow cruelty resides in some, and the demons inside shall eventually come. Their lust for strength and utter control, dictates their actions and they as a whole. Their sheer infliction of torture and pain, is not fathomed to those who are sane. So we pray for a much more loving place, here on this pebble just flying through space.
My mother lived I East Germay she said the Russian soldiers were always kind to the children. It ashamed I other parts of Germany these women had to suffer.
I think it’s difficult to get across on YT exactly what happened due to the number of words you can’t say in a video. The atrocities committed during this era of human history are sometimes difficult to comprehend. Yes the Nazis did commit atrocities but all sides did. The majority of victims during this period were not soldiers but civilians. And these victims were burned alive, bombed tortured, raped irradiated and so on across the globe not just in Europe. Most of that generation were so traumatised they wanted to prevent anything like it happening again.
It's surprising Europeans got tired of war at all. Millions were massacred during The Thirty Years' War in the 17th century between Protestants and Catholics. Whole villages were wiped out. They just go through cycles that repeat over and over.

She made it to Bavaria with my wife's father, the baby, whom she had a very co-dependent relationship with. In many ways, todays German people, who nothing to do with the war, carry the emotional and psychological scars of the war from the their parents and grandparents.
They carry the memory of not to do it again. “When you play the game of thrones, you win or you die. There is no middle ground.” They lost. Good that they remember.
I read that American troops trained for France were told that "French girls were easy" as a way to excite them. I imagine these boys were pretty young and inexperienced. But this film explains the state French girls were in by 1944: hungry, worn out, ravaged.
We have some of the most violent people in the world living in the United States and a lot of the comments act like us Americans are so nice and friendly and not violent! Man this country is going to hell for all the sins committed in our borders!
I had friends from Germany who told me what happened when the Brit soldiers first entered their village in 1945 after Germany was defeated. The soldiers came in at first very slowly and with great trepidation and caution, carrying their guns cocked and aloft, poking every haystack and bush, until they were sure the area was safe and there were no German soldiers left hiding out there. Once they took control however, they behaved in a very disciplined manner and didn't assault anyone. One time after searching a house they found an air rifle and all hell broke loose until it was explained to them it was the young son's who was just using it to shoot birds and was of no danger to them. Later on, often, the little children used to run up to the soldiers stationed there and taunt them in their broken English with "You have a bird!" from the German idiom "Du hast einen vogel" meaning "You're crazy!". This of course left the soldiers somewhat bemused, the children not realising the direct translation has no meaning in English.
The problem is the German people benefited from the barbarism of the Nazi soldiers. So when the table was turned and the German people found themselves on the bad end, they had no right to complain or whine or demand different treatment. Many of the things that had been sent home to Germany from the conquered countries like Poland were taken with brutal force from people’s homes. Suddenly the shoe was on the other foot. Lesson is: Don’t start fights to begin with. If you lose, you can lose everything. And you deserve it. That’s what happened to Germany.
@@sheldonwheaton881 you hopefully realize how bizarre you sound here. You actually accuse someone of being both a Nazi and a Bolshevik for criticizing the Nazis. Something is wrong with you
@@pamtnman1515 germany and poland had an border issue since versailles treatment. After that border issue France and England escalated the conflict and declared war on germany.
@@pondusenglanq8563 I guess you studied history at the World Economic Forum taught by Black Lives Matter people, because Germany declared war on both England and France first.
This is something you don't need to prove. You know? It's like . . . oh. And some of us will feel this vicarious thrill, some of us won't. Which is why not all the allies were into that stuff. Probably safe to say, any soldier who was in Germany, at that time, was in a bad situation. Better to be back home, painting an aircraft wing or something. Course. The soldiers, who remember or took part in, are gone. Might be interesting to find out which nation's soldiers were the biggest opportunists. Chances are, only the Germans know, now.
no, Germans do not know , even today, they again dream about Great Germany, and of course, war will again start in Serbia, somehow they hate us the most of all others.....
Animals are better behaved than Russian soldiers during WW II and even today. You quite rightly referred to Stalin's quote that rape was allowed. For most Germans and Eastern Europeans the so called end of the war was just the beginning.
The german people, my people, have experienced so much hardship in life; whats funny, when people think of the germans during ww2, they automatically think of all the horrible stuff they have done; but not once has anyone truly sat down and thought of their reasoning; citizens just dont wake up over night wanting to exterminate, their has to be a breaking point. No one talks about the brutality towards german citizens that poland has done along their borders during 1918-1919, where the allies had made german citizans addicted to alcohol, pornography and degeneracy through the 1920s, or how no one truly discusses about the book burnings during 1933 and how germany was in such a horrible poverish state due to the article agreements that European crountries drafted and proposed on the german citizens until the day they refused their currency system creating their own. No one wants to talk about the 24 peace treaties they sent out to the allies before 39, not many people realize that most of the Nawtsies where majority worried about russia and stalin; or how churchill pushed for the war to happen by doing forest burns along the border edges, no because their all perfect people. But yes, lets just pretend that the millions of germans that where killed, and forcing the entire race to be made the bad guy in all of this, and nothing ever happened with the allies, because as they day, good guys always win history right?
It is sad, I was told by a sergeant from the US army that landed in Normandy, the Germans needed to understand what it means to be an occupied country, it has helped them avoid invading Poland again, all these years
