I don't think it was mentioned here but Juno is actually having an affair with Sarah's husband Paul before he gets killed and Beth knows about it but has kept quiet. When she is stabbed and lies dying she tells Sarah not to trust Juno partly because of that affair, as she hands Sarah a necklace that Paul had given Juno. I'm not quite sure why she decided to tell her then but it might just be a literal deathbed confession to tell Sarah about the betrayal or she's telling her because she doesn't want to protect Juno anymore after, you know, killing her, even if just accidentally.

I think Beth told her that because she and Sarah were the closest of the group. I think Sarah told Beth that she has deep seated guilt because if she hadn't been questioning Paul that day, he wouldn't have turned to her and wouldn't have gotten into the accident. So, Beth telling Sarah about Juno in that moment was confirming that the grief and survivor's guilt Sarah felt after the accident can be laid at Juno's feet. And if it came down to either Juno or Sarah, Sarah couldn't be that complacent person anymore and needed to choose herself for once.

Two movies came out with the same premise, one with a male lead, one with an all female cast. The women led picture did astronomically better because it's a better movie with better characters. You missed the entire sub plot that explained a lot about Juno and Sara. Sara said her husbands catchphrase was ‘love each day.’ And Beth all this time had tension with Juno and kept hinting to Sarah to not trust Juno, ex: she left pretty quickly ect. And how Juno showed up at the hospital crying. Well, after Juno kills Beth and Beth takes her necklace. The necklace says: love each day. Juno and Sarah’s husband were having an affair, that’s why he was distant lately. So after knowing that and how she killed Beth and was responsible for everyone’s deaths, Sarah hobbled her.

Even though I agree about the over-use of jump scares in more recent horror flicks, I have to disagree with the use of them in this film. I felt that every jump scare was pretty well placed and this movie was one of the very few to actually make me jump wile watching it. That's a compliment I cannot give many horror films. Also, Sarah didn’t stab and icepick into Juno just for killing Beth, Sarah realized that Juno had been sleeping with her late husband when she saw her necklace had “love each day” engraved into it which was something he said daily., The Descent is a MUCH WATCH for anyone who is a fan of the horror-genre in my opinion
@TalentCaldwell
@TalentCaldwell 2 года назад
I think modern RU-vid critics have misconstrued what a “jump scare” even is. They seem to throw it on ANYTHING that happens to make you jump when it should only apply to the audience manipulated ones. Those accompanied by a sharp sound effect and/or an over reaction from a character. If I recall correctly shots like of the creature standing behind a girl has no jump scare sound cue. So if someone in the audience just happens to jump (because it’s terrifying) than that is just an old fashioned surprise scare. I think even the music score was minimal in THE DESCENT to not detract from the isolation of the caves.

This is what she showed Juno in an “I know” sort of way before she axed her. Also right at the beginning during that raft flashback if you pay attention Husband helps Juno out of the raft first, instead of ... his wife? Most of the bad stuff in this movie is Juno’s fault: she was the reason Husband was so distant (and didn’t keep his eyes on the goddamned road), she was the one who tricked the group into going down an unmapped cave for the thrill of being the first and she was the one who left Axey for dead ... but I can’t even blame Juno for that one cos Axey was playing ninja and thought it would be smart to sneak up on her the way she did (thank you Roanoke), so yeah Axey had that coming but everything else was Juno’s fault!

I loved the allegorical depiction of the descent into a cave and madness as the tunnel systems they traverse get more maddening the deeper down they go. From claustrophobic realistic cave diving to then spacious “movie cliche” caves with blood pools and monsters. Whereas it’s sequel does indeed suck and other cave films like THE CAVE are more deserving of criticism. I wish you enjoyed it more.

This movie impressed me when I saw it as a kid and is the reason why I love horror movies. It’s scenes and feeling is somehow very unique to me. It’s dark, dirty, brutal and just a full on ride of terror (well it was as I was a kid). I still love to rewatch this movie maybe 2 or 3 times a year just to remind me of better and easier times.

I dont understand how by they did Juno so dirty like that tho. She’s a cheater, accidentally kills her friend, her friend knows it’s an accident, tells other friend she’s a murderer, which ends up getting her killed, but there was no reasons for it

So is the American one the sequel to the first "Descent"??? I definitely thought the sequels ending was bad bc if I remember the only survivor was the black woman police officer & when she gets out of the cave she's killed by the old land owner, 😳 but why there's so many unanswered questions??!! I didn't like the ending it could've been better. I'm assuming they ended the movie like that for a making of a third sequel.

The "spike in the wall" is called a piton. Yeah it was used over 100 years ago but the design of the one shown in the movie is one that was popularized in the 1970s. Those were pretty quickly replaced afterward with cams and chocks, or bolts if it's a popular area. Another something dumb part about that shot is the ridiculous angle someone would have to be in order to place that piton. It's on an overhang, and there's nothing beneath them.

"an obvious stay away sign, such as bloody claw marks is ignored". That is the beginning of every horror film. It smells like dead bodies in here; I heard screaming coming from the direction we are travelling; a fucking pot just flew across the kitchen; all the doors of the bedrooms just slammed shut; while renovating we found a pentagram drawn in blood on the floor under the carpet; a voice just screamed get out...etc.

I saw The Decent accidentally. And I'm glad I did. It was part of a double feature at the Drive-In movies here in the states. I can't remember what the first movie was, but Descent was the second. I don't recall much or any publicity for it ahead of time, & we saw the European ending! I still rave about it to this day.
@joevans27
@joevans27 Год назад
Really you got the Original Ending there in the states, your the first person I've heard say that, thought they only got the cut version there where it just ends with Juno ghost in the car rather than the og which is the best where she awakens back stuck underground
