Man, how can I sit here and watch this and tell that David and Victoria are both into each other, yet I'm so utterly oblivious to such things in my own life as they relate to me? Granted, I do get the advantage of hindsight here.
All the guests are on top of their games here, this is also probably the best appearance from Reggie on a panel show I've seen. It's a shame only one series was made.
I think it's just a very difficult show to sustain. Not only do you need to fabricate and film news, but you need to isolate the guests for 4 days, which many would not be willing to do.
@@noahmay7708 Yes, seems to violate the first commandment of panel shows: Thou shalt be cheaper than sitcoms and sketch shows. Shame though cos it had a much more interesting premise than most of these types of programs and could be very funny.

Something so nice, warm and fuzzy about seeing Victoria and David on the same show. Such a huge fan of them both individually and as a couple. They're the thinking man's Posh & Becks!
It is! That's exactly what I thought! I feel like I'm imposing on something private watching this ... like, oh, sorry, I didn't mean to walk in on your sexy times or whatever. Honestly, it's very sweet, but how it took them so long is beyond me. Retroactively exasperating.
@@klatskyn Read the last chapter of David's autobiography, "Backstory". Basically, he was in love with her for some time. She was attracted to him but was in a relationship with someone else. It took a couple of years for that relationship to run its course.
I agree, before he had that old single guy tweed "just throw something on" look, and after he actually was wearing real suits and jackets lol. So true.
The episode with Katy Brand and Robert Webb was a good one. They were talking about stuff from when they were all kids, but David had no knowledge of any of it. It was as if all popular culture of the 80s and 90s had completely passed him by. He protested 'my entire childhood was not spent in The Bubble!'
+Hazel Bishop By "sweeps" gunterdak was referring to "Sweeps Week". Despite being called "Sweeps Week" it actually happens multiple times a year, for more than one week at a time. During those times, companies will send out surveys or collect data from meters connected to some TVs to find out what people are watching. TV stations will use that information to sell advertising space. If a certain show is watched by a lot of people, it will cost more to advertise during it. Since selling time to advertisers brings in an awful lot of money to TV stations, and thus the TV shows themselves, some TV shows go out of their way to do huge stunts to try to attract more viewers during a "Sweeps Week", indirectly earning them more money. A famous example of this is the episode of Friends where the group went to London for Ross's wedding. The Discovery Channel's famous "Shark Week" airs during a sweeps period as well. More general examples for Sweeps Week stunts are bringing in big guest stars, having big plot twists, or airing sensationalist specials like "World's Deadliest Bras". This show is great! I don't know why people have so much trouble with it. There's creativity, the panelists are funny, and David mitchell is pretty good at hosting in this one. "Was it something I said" (the one David is hosting now) has nowhere near as much room for social commentary and humour (two things at which David Mitchell excels).
it's amazing how David can still keep up face like that. Heck, met the person that made you know the feeling of falling in love *and* being crushed, I'll be on the floor bawling my eyes out. Not to mention if that person is Victoria Coren!!
this group has great chemistry. i love reg and victoria debating whether or not a gay train is a good idea while frank just interjects with corny but hilarious jokes also this show could've been an hour long, half quiz show/half reality show. i wanna see more of them in the house
I agree; kind of like a cross between the ‘The Day Today’, ‘Big Brother’, and ‘Have I Got News For You’/‘8 Out of 10 Cats’: with fake news stories, a bit of behind the scenes living together stuff, in your typical topical news quiz-type format. It really deserved a longer run than it ultimately got; I mean, for a first episode, this was fantastic, with everyone on sparkling form. Just another show, with lot a ton of potential, that was cutdown before it’s time. All the best.
I know, so sweet. She was giving him that smile quite a lot throughout this episode, honestly, I wonder why she stopped seeing him the first time? I've read her say it was love at first sight for her, and watching this, I believe her.
Watching this a couple of years after it was aired, and not really being very up to date on british current affairs anyway really brings a new excitement to this show.
Oh I sooo agree with David, we need to get rid of all those gay/lesbian stereotypes. Enough! On a personal note: I wish I were a show host so that I get to invite the girl I fancy - good for you (both)!
Fair enough, but my main reaction to the story was like Victoria’s: How can a train possibly be gay (or straight, or anything else in terms of sexuality)?
Sexuality isn't contained to what happens when you have sex, and there are cultural aspects of sexuality that aren't stereotypes per se. A gay man may interact with men differently than a straight man does. Though admittedly this kind of thing would be hard to apply to trains lol.
I think there should be more gay characters in children’s shows, but Thomas the Tank Engine probably isn’t the best idea since there isn’t any relationships, whether it be gay or straight.
I remember this, though I think there was only me and David's family actually watching each week! It wasn't the best thought out quiz show but it had the germ of a good idea. They should have made more of the celebs living together away from modern tech and information and interspersed the quiz with more footage of their time together. And yeah, David and Victoria are adorable, poor guy pining for her even then. Just goes to show you good things happen to those who wait.
Nah, the audience figures and reaction to the show were actually very positive. The only reason it didn't get renewed for another series is that David couldn't make the recording schedule for Series 2 work with the BBC. Too many other commitments.
She did though! A lot of comments saying how smitten he looked, but honestly, I barely see it. For her it's just all over her face, and more and more noticeably as the episode went on. It's kind of exasperatingly like watching a will-they-won't-they storyline on a TV drama. JUSTDOITALREADY!!!
Weirdly it was David Badiel that introduce Victoria Coren to David Mitchell the time he fell in love with her. He even said to her "I think you should probably marry him".
I liked the look on Frank's face when the gay tank engine story came up - like, "ooh, so many jokes, but I don't want to look bigoted, but on the other hand..."

I've never seen this before, and I have to say it was WAY funnier than I thought it was going to be. Some comedic panel shows are a bit half baked and try-hard, but this is great.
I didn't know when this show first aired so I was very confused by Reginald's joke about getting David a girlfriend, since the video was posted Sept. 2013. I have since learned the show aired in 2010, so David and Victoria were not married yet.
I'm with Victoria on the "gay trains" thing. If your show's characters have relationships, then please make them gay! But if they don't, it's totally pointless. It's either going to be simple tokenism for the sake of forced diversity, or it's going to come out as harmful stereotyping. Thomas the Tank Engine doesn't need a gay character because there aren't even any straight characters - orientation just doesn't exist in that show's context
Does anybody else just consider Rejinald's name to be Delicious. He had me do convinced, in that episode, that every time i see him anyplace, i think Delicious before Reginald. Lol 😂😂

Enter... *Reginald Delicious Hunter* !!!! He really is fantastic!! Love his broad spectrum of humour and unlike sooo many others, they get stuck in a particular 'theme' or 'topic' and then theh develop further into that role and stay thst way, and the spectrum of their range of humorous unfortunately decreases along side that. *...aaannnyyy-whoooooo....* I have never understood why R.Delicious.Hunter isn't as much of a big deal in the USA that he is in the UK too? I believe that there is a fairly decent fan base in Australia too. Perhaps his humor is now "too British" for the same US audience? Thoughts, feelings, emotions!? 😆 😁 *R.DELICIOUS.HUNTER you are THE MAN!!!! I do love this but understand why it only had one series. Getting three people for each episode to be "locked away" for a whole week must be very difficult. And super expensive.
The Drone story isn't fake now. Victoria is right about Thamas The Tank Engine, it's a kids story about trains, don't bring sexual elements into it at all. I agree with Reg about the "Cat In A Tin Of Cat Food" question. It was ridiculous. "Spank The Monkey" 🤣
If I had seen this before they got together, it would have really made me hope that they would get together. 16:17 It's very touching the way her first concern was not her picture in the paper, but David's difficult week in production.
They should bring this show back! Esp in these times of fake news you could get extra points for a “real” fake new story (vs one that was made up for the show)
Remember watching this series with my Mum, howling with laughter, thinking it was the best thing ever. In hindsight, WILTY (Would I Lie..) is an easier & cheaper realisation.
