Thank you once again for your videos. The R13 indeed has that ping as you call and for me personally I prefer playing it to the later RC model. And I think that you are correct that buffet crampon didn’t make super saxophones - the Great John Dankworth played The Buffet Alto and I believe Don Rendell played Buffet Tenor. Myself I have always played Salmer but it is a pity that those Buffet horns disappeared. Thank you. Bill. UK
My RC Prestige replaced my Selmer Centered Tones. The CTs were nice as were the Selmer 9. But Buffet was ahead in technology making a more balanced playing instrument. I still love my R13s. I have some late 1960s as my primary set, but various throughout the years. I also have a 50,xxx R13 (or 51xxx) a very early R13 model.
I was working on a episode reviewing the R13 design tweaks throughout the years which gave it (1950s) dark tone to a more sweet tone in the 1960s, to the 1970s changes. This mostly related to the location of the register pip. But I'm not done with that.
