This is a 6 x 10 x 6'3" Camping/Bug Out Cargo Trailer Conversion. We wanted it small, lightweight, comfortable and inexpensive. I think we achieved those goals.
Edit!!! - The "living area" receptacles are on the passenger wall, not the driver's side wall as I said in the video. Also, I put a receptacle cover on the AC receptacle inside the cabinet.
For those interested in the air conditioner install, email me at tinytrailers4bigadventures@gmail.com and I'll send you pics and a diagram.

Thank you. When inside, the padlock goes in the flip latch on the door. With the lock in place, the bar lock can't be engaged to lock the door.

I have always had that thot lurking in the back & not all rigs have an escape hatch. In this one, perhaps the rear door could enable that function...if latches were inside only. Bug out, eh? Red certainly catches the eye so if some black circles are painted on, then you can call it a 'ladybug'!🤭

A suggestion for you rear hatch door is to make a deck on the ramp. You could have a bug screen installed at the entry of the trailor. Have it set up to use as an extra relaxing space. Place a little portable gas fire pit on it! Think of all of the beautiful evenings you could enjoy in your favorite camp chairs enjoying the beautiful sunsets and star gazing. Enjoy your trailor. It is so nice! ❤️❤️

Nice job insulating the ramp door, most don't, which isn't a good choice for cold weather camping. Congratulations on a really nice build. May your travels be safe and joyful. I would humbly offer the thought you replace the modified sine wave inverter to a pure sine wave inverter, because your TV may be at risk, as would be any other electronics you might wish to charge. Also, you might wish to reconsider the latch on the outside, as someone could lock you in while you are inside. Perhaps the latter thought might be based on a little paranoia, but knowing some of the broken thinkers out there, I would never want to be placed in such a vulnerable position.
@TinyTrailers4BigAdventures
@TinyTrailers4BigAdventures 2 года назад
Appreciate the kind words and insight. We've been using small modified sine inverters to run dorm fridges for a quite a while with no issues. My first trailer (built in 2012) runs a dorm fridge, microwave & LCD tv (pre LED days) and has performed flawlessly. We'll look at changing them out if the need arises. We've done many, many tests about being locked in and as long as a lock is locked into the flip latch, the bar latch will not keep the door closed. That being said, if a broken thinker wants to wreak havoc, they will find a way. I work very hard at being aware of my surroundings and moving if at all uncomfortable.

Awesome. Instead of hand pump why not have water overhead for gravity fed. I would remove the outside bar lock handle so people won't lock you in. Or make an EMERGENCY window size hatch at another side to only lock & unlock from inside.
@TinyTrailers4BigAdventures

Thanks for checking ou the video. The hand pump allows them to have the water tanks under the counter and kedp the upper area clear. Very nice work and great idea of using shed lock. Adding those flush RV locks are extremely time consuming. Will definitely do that for my next build. Do you use passive ventilation for the AC or did you add a fan?
@TinyTrailers4BigAdventures
@TinyTrailers4BigAdventures 3 года назад
Thank you. I like the shed locks - drill a 1/2" vs cutting out for a handle. The AC vents directly thru the floor. I built an exhaust duct with a baffle that directs the air down. The air intake for the side vents are separated from the exhaust air by the trailer frame. No extra fans for air movement with the AC.

The trailer looks great!...after having the trailer for awhile, do you have any problems/regrets with the floor mounted ac?
@TinyTrailers4BigAdventures
@TinyTrailers4BigAdventures 3 года назад
Thank you. I don't have the trailer. It was "adopted" by a couple to use as a vacation getaway. I've heard no complaints from them or others that I've done floor mounted ac's in. The biigest thing with making a floor mounted unit efficient is to feed it lots of air to cool the compressor & fan. Next is to use the roof vent fan to evacuate the hot air from the trailer while the ac is running. Once the hot air is moved out, the volume of cold air the ac puts out will fill the trailer quickly.

Have you had anyone go with a 12 volt "overland" refrigerator/ Freezer? Also have you had anyone get that trailer with brakes? 16 inch Jeep wheels and tires not the after market monsters but the OEM tires/ rims. I am wanting to tow with a Jeep JKU and am concerned about a loaded trailer being more than my vehicle can stop. Going does not concern me it is the stopping that worries me. On the rims/ tires I want one size for trailer and jeep.
@TinyTrailers4BigAdventures
@TinyTrailers4BigAdventures 3 года назад
Haven't done the 12v fridge/freezer unit yet. I just bought a used Icec0 GO 20 (20 qt) to play with. This one is a bit of a power hog, so I don't think for my 12v use, it would be practical. Plugged in to 120v, it will make a great freezer. As for brakes, yes, we've ordered units with brake axles. I think you would need to put a "lift" kit on the axle to safely get 16" tires on the trailer.

I've noticed that you use sash shed windows for your trailers. What kind are they and do they stand up to all the shaking bouncing?
@TinyTrailers4BigAdventures
@TinyTrailers4BigAdventures 2 года назад
We use the shed windows most of the ti.e because people don't want to pay the cost of rv windows. A 12 x 22 rv window runs about $120+/-. A 12 x 18 shed window runs $35 +/-. Both are single pane temperedglass, so style and price are the deviding factors for most folks. I have well over 80 shed windows installed in trailers without a single issue. I build a wooden frame that is attached between studs for the window to be screwed into. The frame insures tbe window is solidly secured to the trailer, so bouncing and flexing doesn't affect them at all.

What are your thoughts on a roof vent verses keeping the roof one solid piece and having vents on the side? I see a couple manufactures who put one up high usually drivers side and one down low on passenger side. Seems like that would be better than an opening in the roof.
@TinyTrailers4BigAdventures
@TinyTrailers4BigAdventures 3 года назад
The side vents are designed to remove fumes from the trailer (mowers, atvs, etc) and really only work when the trailer is in motion. I'm not a fan of cutging a hole in a perefectly good roof,but a powered foor vent is a great wat to move a ton of air. Sealed right, they don't leak. I like to put a Camco all weather vent cover over them. Helps keep rain away and lets you leave them open 24/7/365 if you want to. I've used a small $40 12v fan from Amazon in the sidewall of a trailer when we didn't want to cut a roof. It's not as powerful as a roof vent fan, but it moves air.

@TinyTrailers4BigAdventures 3 года назад
Thanks for the kind words. I understand your concern about the door, but we found if we simply put a regular padlock in the flip latch on the door, the bar lock arm can't go down far enough to lock someone in. We tried this 10+ times with my wife in the trailer and each time she was easily able to push the door open. We tried it with one of the round locks and the bar lock could get down far enough to hold the door shut. I'm not a fan of the round locks anyway, this is just another reason for me to not use them.

@TinyTrailers4BigAdventures
@TinyTrailers4BigAdventures 2 года назад
They wanted to be able to run the trailer on a 2000 watt generator. Also, a roof top is $1000+/-, and a window unit is under $200. The window ac keeps the trailer cold enough to the point that you have to turn it down. It was designed for a $150 sq.ft. room and the trailer is only 65 sq.ft. total, so it is more than enough.

@TinyTrailers4BigAdventures
@TinyTrailers4BigAdventures 2 года назад
@Adam Payton - I wented the intake and exhaust through the floor. I built a duct to contain the exhaust air and force it out under the trailer. The intake vents have their own ducts to pull the intake air directly to them. There is a flooring joist that separates the intake and exhaust under the trailer.

It would have been best to mount air conditioner up high. You can mount heaters low because hot air rises.
@TinyTrailers4BigAdventures
@TinyTrailers4BigAdventures 3 года назад
Ideally, it would be higher, but this wascthe best set up for this lay out. The trailer is 6 x 10 - the 5k btu ac cools it with no problem mounted on the floor. A trailer up to 10 ft will cool very well with a 5 k wimdow unit mounted low. The sheer volume of cold air it puts out displaces the hot air. I appreciate you checking out the video.

Red was what they asked for. If the padlock is locked in the flip latch, the bar can't go down enough to lock the door from the outside. My neighbor's 7 year old daughter can push the door open with the bar over the door. She did it 10 times, as did his wife & my wife. Thanks for your concern. Question - do you have first hand knowledge of anyone ever being locked in their trailer (besides some drunken prank among friends)? In 60 years of camping, 20 of which is in cargo trailer conversions, I've never seen or heard of it. And I've camped in some sketchy areas over the years.

My personal trailers have 2 exits lockable & openable from the inside cameras as well as exceedingly bright exterior lights. If something gets within 20 feet of the trailer, the cameras give an alert. within 5 feet, night becomes day. Then our traveling companions come out. @TinyTrailers4BigAdventures
@TinyTrailers4BigAdventures Год назад
Appreciate you watching as far as you did. All of you "get locked in" folks have never actually dealt with a bar lock. If the padlock is put in the flip latch on the door, the bar can't hold the door closed. My neighbor's 7 year old daughter simply pushed the door open from the inside when we put the bar across the latch. As for someone "wiring" the door closed, I guess if there are gangs of ne'er do wells doing that, it could happen. Somekne could also park their vehicle against the door, angle a piece of wood against it, lean a pic nic table against it & so on. If I have to worry about crap like that, I'm staying home. Also, why doesn't anyone talk about the rear doors being locked/blocked by bad guys?
@oldschooldiy3240
@oldschooldiy3240 Год назад
@@TinyTrailers4BigAdventures I was talking about ALL doors with that type of latch! If you're going to build these trailers, why not remove them altogether and put rv handles and locks on? If you're that worried about theft, why leave it unattended?
@TinyTrailers4BigAdventures
@TinyTrailers4BigAdventures Год назад
@@oldschooldiy3240 - Tha handle I put on will hold the door closed just like a rv latch. If a bad guy wants in, he simply prys the door above & below a latch until the door bends and the latch itself pops. (We tried it on a wrecked trailer, it's pretty easy) The main reason for the bar lock is to insure the door doesn't accidentally open going down the road and is added security when not using the trailer. As for woorying about theft and leaving it unattened, do you lock your door when you leave? I think it's safe to say we have differring points of view on this, which is fine. Open didcussion helps everyone.
