I work with a fleet company and I will never bring my car to Jiffy Lube. With over 20 years in the business, I've seen Jiffy Lube repeatedly damage engines, transmissions, differentials, and oil pans, as well as install air filters incorrectly. I always advise my friends, family, and casual acquaintances to avoid Jiffy Lube and any quick lube shops. Asking friends for recommendations of local "ma and pa" shops or certified technicians who work on cars at their homes is always the way to go.

Thanks for the input! I'll be doing my own fluids from now on, or hiring my mechanic neighbor, as I should have this time. Thats what I get for trying to save time!

So I’m following your steps, and I’m in CA. I know you Kinda answered this question a bit, but being that I’m in CA and can’t go over $500 per project, how can I do a move out like your doing here without going over the limit? If I did a move out can I break it into different projects on the move out? Like kitchen faucet project, towel bar project, smoke detector project, patch and paint project? Everyone says it’s a grey area. But for instance this video just the first 3 minutes in I’d say I’d be over 500 in materials and labor. Having said that, I’m excited to start. So far I formed my LLC as Canyon Hills Handyman, applied for my business license, got my truck ready got my logo cleaned up and redone(my 14 year old did my logo that’s on my profile, in our neighborhood we have a huge hill with an American flag that I hike daily with my dog and kids and I really like that she included that) next I’m getting a new phone number for my old cell phone, making a Wix site, then getting jobber setup(making sure I use your links😅). Then I’m ordering shirts with logo and American flag on sleeve and then business card magnets and truck magnets, and the. Getting liability insurance through Next. I’m going to try something a bit different and try and focus on my neighborhood, see if I can get some business and then go for property management. I’m doing this part time right now testing waters. I’m just trying to see how I can work this $500 limit and be legal yet make this business work.

That's exciting! As far as the limit in California, it's harder there. Breaking up a big job into smaller jobs would be viewed as breaking the law. The only real solution is to get yourself a specialty residential license.

I feel your pain about your wife being taking advantage of at Jiffy Lube. When I first came here as an immigrant to the US, I thought they were a cool American thing, but never feel at ease going there for fear of them screwing me over. I just want a $50 oil change and then end up leaving with a $150 bill.

The last time I sent her for an oil change, probably a couple years ago, I gave her instructions to say no to everything they offer. I told her that they would come back and say that fluids are discolored, AC filters need changed, or wipers, or brakes. With those instructions we got a nice little $50 oil change. This time I told her that we had the money in the bank and let them do what is necessary. THAT was my really big mistake. I just wanted her to feel safe in her car but it wasn't worth that price. Turns out they "flushed" the radiator (which had already been done 8 months ago) and they literally convinced her that the brake fluid was discolored and needed to be completely drained and replaced. BS.
